Running to seven seasons, "The Mentalist" sees former 'psychic medium' Patrick Jane (played by Australian actor Simon Baker) act as a consultant to a police unit with the Californian Bureau of Investigation to help solve crimes mainly by cold reading people.

His agenda includes hunting for the serial killer 'Red John'. Baker previously starred as Nick Fallin in the legal drama series "The Guardian" (2001-2004) and has appeared in such films as "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006).

For example, Athena Grant-Nash (played by Angela Bassett), an LAPD patrol sergeant and first responder, becomes the wife of the Station Captain. In the film world, she received an Oscar nomination for her role in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" (2022).

Evan "Buck" Buckley (played by Oliver Stark) is a firefighter at Station 118 and gets his sister Maddie to join 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch. His sister subsequently marries another of the Station's firefighters. Stark is best known for his "9-1-1" role and the martial arts drama series "Into the Badlands" (2015-2017).

Robert "Bobby" Nash (played by Peter Kraus) is Captain of Station 118 of the Los Angeles Fire Dept, is a recovering alcoholic and becomes Athena's husband. He successfully turns the station around after a high turnover of captains. Kraus has had lead roles in a number of TV series such as "Six Feet Under" (2001-2005) and "Parenthood" (2010-2015). He received multiple nominations for his role as Nate Fisher in "Six Feet Under".

As Hen Wilson, Aisha Hinds plays the role of a firefighter and paramedic at Station 118. She receives support from her colleague Chimney to overcome prejudice. She fills the role of Captain in Bobby's absence. American actor Michael Chiklis is best known for his role as Detective Vic Mackey in the crime drama series "The Shield" (2002-2008), which was inspired by the real-life police corruption in the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Dept in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Continuing the police theme, he also had the titular role in "The Commish" (1991-1996) as a police commissioner and joined the Batman universe in "Gotham" (2015-2017), this time as a villain with a police background.
