Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is not a host or co-host of "Wipeout?"

Answer: Matt Kunitz

John Henson and John Anderson are both hosts in the box office. Jill Wagner is a co-host that talks to the contestants before and after they go on out in the field. Matt Kunitz is the executive producer of the show. He also was the executive producer of "Fear Factor."
2. What did the executive producer describe "Wipeout" as?

Answer: "Fear Factor" meets "America's Funniest Home Videos"

According to Wikipedia, Kunitz describes the show as "Fear Factor," a show where contestants are dared to do whacky stunts, and "America's Funniest Home Videos," designed to make people laugh. "Wipeout" has obstacles in their course which make people both brave and funny.
3. What is the name of the wall with boxing gloves on "Wipeout," which is also the name of a video game maker?

Answer: Sucker Punch

"Sucker Punch" is most known for making the "Sly Cooper" trilogy. The wall on "Wipeout" randomly throws punches to the contestants over and over, attempting to knock them in the mud. This works most of the time, but there have been a few times where players make it through without making it to the mud.
4. What is the obstacle, in the qualifier round of "Wipeout," where players try to bounce across to the final obstacle called?

Answer: Big Balls

The "Big Balls" are red, not blue! Players must try to run or bounce across these giant red balls to the next obstacle. Over 90% of players fail, mostly on the first ball of the four total. This is John and John's favorite obstacle.
5. What is the total amount a player could win from the first season "Wipeout?"

Answer: $51,000

During the "Sweeper" round, players jump over a bar until there are six remaining to move on. Once the six are determined, the remaining six go head to head for a bonus $1,000. In the final round, the "Wipeout Zone," players play for $50,000. If the same player who won the "Sweeper" wins, they will have won a total of $51,000.
6. The wall from "Wipeout" was once replaced with shoes; what was it then called?

Answer: Butt Kicker

The gloves were exchanged for shoes in episode 8 of season one. One woman got her leg caught on one of the shoes on the wall, which looked quite painful! Besides this, the wall has changed throughout the episodes, including not giving hand grips for the players to use!
7. In the final round, the "Wipeout Zone," which is NOT an obstacle?

Answer: Trampoline

The "Killer Surf" is the first obstacle in the "Wipeout Zone." It is the easiest part of the course. All players do is slide down a giant slide into the water. It may be easy and quick, but it can knock the wind out of you. The next obstacle is the "Barrel Run." Here players must jump over barrels until they make it to the wall, cross it, and make it to the "Spinner." This is the most difficult obstacle and has caused the most wipeouts. Once players make it past the "Spinner," the final obstacle lies ahead: the "Launch Pads." There are four trampolines situated at different heights, and once players make it across, they must land on the platform seven feet away from the last trampoline, and stand on the lighted circle on the platform.

They are then declared the winner, if they have beat the other three players' scores.
8. What is the winner of the final round of "Wipeout" known as?

Answer: Wipeout Champion

The "Wipeout Champion" is crowned at the end of every episode. The winner is the one who has the fastest time of the four final players in the "Wipeout Zone." They are rewarded with $50,000. Besides the money, the "Wipeout Champion" also wins bragging rights.
9. At the end of every episode of "Wipeout," what does one host always say?

Answer: Good night... and big balls.

John Henson always closes with the mention of the "Big Balls." This is his favorite obstacle. The phrase is a spoof of "Good night and good luck," a phrase spoken by Edward R. Murrow.
10. Who had a "Wipeout" named after them?

Answer: Jacob Mann

Jacob Mann was on the fifth episode of season one of "Wipeout." While he was on the "Big Balls," he did the splits on the second one! John and John replayed this over and over. Now every time someone does the splits, mainly male, they call it the "Jacob Mann." Mann placed twelfth in the qualifier, sixth on the sweeper, and quit during the semi-finals.

He even threw up his lunch because of that "Dizzy Dummy!" All four named mentioned were from the fifth episode of season one.
