Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A-hunting we go... In this 1984 game, we have to hunt for a specific animal with our NES Zapper light gun, but, if we miss frequently, a non-playable dog will start looking smugly at our dejected face. What animal appearing on our CRT screen are we trying to hit?

Answer: Duck

Yes, we have to shoot at ducks. I am referring to "Duck Hunt", a Nintendo classic, playable in Nintendo VS. System and PlayChoice-10. There are actually three modes, two of which involve flying ducks and a third involving clay pigeons as the objects of our quest. In the first variant, there can be a second player involved, controlling the appearance of the targets on the screen.
2. Gangsters are gathering in an alley in an unnamed city! Quick, we have to shoot them down! But, we also need to keep all innocent civilians unscathed! What game are we playing now?

Answer: Hogan's Alley

The game was also a 1984 release. It is a single-player one and playable on Nintendo VS. System. By shooting at the gangsters, the player increases their score, but, by firing on civilians, lives are getting lost. The game's name derives from a real-life FBI training ground.
3. Sonic Spaceport starship, you are needed! "Radar Scope" is your game, but what is the name of the alien race you need to exterminate? (Hint: Greek alphabet)

Answer: Gamma Raiders

"Radar Scope" is a 1980 release, available in both single player and multiplayer modes. Although it didn't enjoy much commercial success, it indirectly led to the creation of the most iconic Nintendo character, Mario, who made his first appearance in the next franchise, "Donkey Kong".
4. The Pamera royal family is trapped in a pyramid! It's the work of the demon Belzebut! We need a hero! Who might he be?

Answer: Mighty Bomb Jack

Mighty Bomb Jack is the hero who gives his name to the game, as well. The game is an arcade game which is available on the Nintendo DS handheld. Consisting of sixteen levels, which in turn are divided into an action zone and a room of the Palace, it can be played both in single player and multiplayer mode.
5. If I only had a hammer... Only, we have a hammer! And Mario! Mario needs to destroy some objects with his hammer, including walls and pillars. But, he can't jump, due to the hammer's weight. What game is being described here?

Answer: Wrecking Crew

The game can also be played in multiplayer mode, with the second player taking the role of Luigi. Besides the possibility of objects becoming unreachable due to height (lest we forget, Mario can't jump) the player must be aware of fireballs and other hostile objects coming towards them.

The game is playable on Nintendo VS System.
6. Doctor, Doctor, to save your patient, you must make the viruses disappear from the screen. You must accomplish this by aligning them with medical capsules bearing the same color. What's the game that is being described here?

Answer: Dr. Mario

The game is available in both single player and multiplayer mode. Released in 1990, it is playable on both Nintendo VS System and PlayChoice-10. Points can increase if the player removes viruses quickly.
7. Mario's adversary is back! He has seized the Peaceful Woods! Toad is on a mission to defeat him! What is the game I'm describing here?

Answer: Wario's Woods

Available in NES, Super NES and Satellaview, "Wario's Woods" is playable both in the single player and multiplayer mode. The goal is to defeat Wario by eliminating all his minions. This is done by dropping bombs against them from above.
8. Let's play "Tin Star"! The Bad Oil gang is tightening its grip on a city in the Old West. It's up to the sheriff and his sidekicks to ensure they don't succeed! What's the name of the city coveted by the bad guys and protected by the Sheriff?

Answer: East Driftwood

The game was released in 1994 for the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) platform. It is available only as a single-player game. The time frame is one week, with the Sheriff and his friends having to thwart a different plan of the gang every day.
9. Stranded in space is Captain Olimar! His ship has crash landed on a strange planet and he must rely on a local species to retrieve the missing parts and leave within a month. What is the name of the creatures he needs help from?

Answer: Pikmin

The game is also entitled "Pikmin". There are three kinds of them, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Olimar and the Pikmin have to overcome various obstacles while assembling the pieces of the ship. The first game is available only in single player mode, playable on GameCube, Nintendo Switch, and Wii platforms.
10. The earliest Nintendo game featuring the sport of golf was the 1984 game "Golf". In 1991, a player's guide identified the game's main golfer with a well-known character. Is this character Mario?

Answer: Yes

Yes, the guide "Mario Mania: Nintendo Player's Guide" stated that the game's main golfer is Mario. When the game was made available on Game Boy, the Western cover art exhibited Mario, but this element was absent from the Japanese version.
