Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An overexcited American defense attorney takes on murder cases that seem clear cut until he proves otherwise.

Answer: Phoenix Wright

Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney is known for his characteristic pointing and shouting "objection" when in the courtroom. When the series began, he was a rookie but has become more professional as the years and games progressed. He is affectionately called Nick by his assistant Maya Fey.

Most of Phoenix' clients are people on trial for murder with a clear case and strong evidence against them until he starts investigating on his own.
2. Human trainers catch, collect and fight monsters of varying types for prize money and badges. Shockingly, the monsters never receive permanent damage.

Answer: Pokemon

Pokémon is a combination of the words pocket monsters. The player becomes a trainer who journeys around the local region catching Pokémon and trains them for battles. Along the way, he or she runs into a villainous team that tries to do something evil with Pokémon and the trainer must stop them with the help of his or her allies.

Competitive Pokémon battling has become a popular pastime worldwide since the first games debuted. Some tournaments can have cash prizes in the thousands of dollars.
3. A character is the only human in town. Everyone else is an anthropomorphized animal who give the human furniture, clothes and food. The game never ends.

Answer: Animal Crossing

In "Animal Crossing", the player is the only human in town (unless they create multiple avatars). Everyone else is an animal. There is no specific goal to the game and the player is free to do whatever he or she wants. The games play out in real time and follow the calendar.

Some games even have holidays to celebrate like Toy Day instead of Christmas and Harvest Festival instead of Thanksgiving.
4. Lowly forest-dwelling commoner becomes Hero of Time to save a princess and her kingdom again and again.

Answer: Legend of Zelda

In most "Zelda" games Link leads a humble life somewhere in a forest in Hyrule. He is then informed that only he can save Hyrule from whatever evil power is threatening it. Sometimes this is directly told to him or he figures it out during the course of his adventures.

Despite the seeming randomness of the games in the series, there is actually a detailed timeline that connects all of the games. As a result, Nintendo claims that the Link and Zelda featured in each games are ancestors and descendants of the ones from the original game.
5. A space traveler leads an army of tiny-plant like creatures on various plants to defeat monsters and collect fruit.

Answer: Pikmin

Captain Olimar is an astronaut of sorts who explores other plants and teams with Pikmin along the way. Pikmin comes in a few different types. Blue Pikmin can travel in water while rock Pikmin will do more damage to enemies. Captain Olimar (or other travelers depending on the game) need to utilize the Pikmin properly to escape the hazards the planets hold.
6. Italian plumber repeatedly rescues princess from large spiny turtle. His brother helps out sometimes.

Answer: Super Mario

In "Super Mario" franchise, Mario visits different worlds within Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Peach, the toadstool princess, from Bowser. Over the decades, the traditional format of linear gameplay has been retained but some games within the series, such as "Super Mario 64" or "Super Mario Sunshine" allow the player to pick and choose which courses to play.
7. A British professor teaches his young mentee about being a gentlemen as the two solve puzzles and bizarre mysteries.

Answer: Professor Layton

Hershel Layton is an archeology professor at London's fictional Gressenheller University. His young mentee Luke Triton can talk to animals, something that frequently comes in handy on their adventures. Everywhere they go, they come across people who always want them to solve puzzles, even in times of emergency.

Some of their most bizarre adventures include solving the case of a mysterious box that kills people when they open it and a mysterious mask that gives its wearers superpowers.
8. An Italian plumber vacuums up ghosts and collects treasure along the way.

Answer: Luigi's Mansion

"Luigi's Mansion" stars Mario's brother as he investigates ghostly haunts in mansions. The ultimate goal of the game is to suck up ghosts in vacuum cleaner called the Poltergust 3000 while collecting money and jewels along the way. This was the first series to feature Luigi as the main character but not the first individual game to do so.
9. A large gorilla throws barrels at a little Italian plumber. Sometimes he becomes friends with the plumber.

Answer: Donkey Kong

Mario debuted as a character in this franchise. In the original classic game, it appears that Mario is the hero and Donkey Kong is the villain but according to some guides it is actually the other way around. Over the years, Donkey Kong and his friends have been folded into various "Mario" franchise games while still retaining its own separate franchise. Recent "Donkey Kong" games have varied greatly in style from the original.
10. Insanely popular hero races his friends and enemies around a series of strange racetracks while dodging banana peels and other projectiles.

Answer: Mario Kart

The "Mario Kart" series is a spinoff of the "Super Mario" games that features Mario and a slew of enemies and allies as they race in karts for trophies. Some of the courses are pretty typical but most have themes to them. Some even have confusing twists and turns, jumps and obstacles. Scattered throughout the courses are item boxes that contain ways to either boost a racers speed or slow down opponents.

The blue spiny shell, which will always hit the leader, is among the most famous and obnoxious.
