Answer: University of Miami

The University of Miami, nicknamed "The U" which appears prominently on their football helmets, isn't actually in Miami, Florida. Home is in Coral Gables for a high academic private college that has been often called an Ivy League school in the South. The Miami football team has won five national championships by the year 2002 which is the most for any Florida college.

Answer: Stetson University

Stetson became a college in 1883 in the small central Florida town of DeLand, not far from Orlando. The prestigious private law school has been consistently ranked as one of the leading law schools in the U.S. In 2002, Princeton Review named them a "green school" for their commitment to environment practices.

Answer: St Petersburg College

St. Petersburg College was Florida's first two year community college since 1927. Regionally accredited and nationally recognized, St Petersburg College became the first Florida state college to offer bachelor's degrees.

UCF in Orlando is Florida's largest university in terms of student population. In 2023, Central Florida was listed as having 69,230 students. Often called a commuter school, UCF has 13 colleges spread across the state. The school's mascot is the Golden Knights.

Answer: Ringling College of Art and Design

Florida's preeminent art and design school resides on the Gulf Coast of Florida in Sarasota. The small private school offers more individual care as enrolment is typically under 2000 students. Ringling College of Art and Design is one of the most expensive schools in the country with tuition running well over the national averages of US colleges.
9. Chief Osceola - Tallahassee - Once a women's only college

Answer: Florida State University

FSU, Florida State University, had a unique start. In 1909, Florida branched off its top two state schools into a school for men at Gainesville and the Florida State College for Women. In 1947, it became a co-ed college. The school has been a football powerhouse for the past forty years and their energetic stadium kicks off with Indian Chief Osceola planting a spear into the 50 yard line before each home game.

One of the top ranked Historically Black Colleges and Universities resides in Tallahassee. Better known as Florida A&M, the school opened its door to black students back in 1887. In 2023, Florida A&M offered 98 degree programs including culinary and agricultural opportunities.
