Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was Flagler College named after?

Answer: Henry Flagler

Henry Flagler built this building originally as a hotel.
2. How many wives did Mr. Flagler have?

Answer: 3

Henry Flagler married three times. The first to Mary Harkness, the second to Ida Alice and the last was Mary Lily Kenan.
3. In the rotunda of Flagler College, going up the stairs are beautiful windows. What kind of windows are they?

Answer: Tiffany Glass Windows

These beautiful windows have a story behind them. A specific Tiffany glass window on the west stairs, if the sun hits it just right, creates an image that should not be there. Not many people know about this one. There are many many secrets like this at Flagler College.
4. There are secret passages under Flagler College.

Answer: True

The secret passages are blocked but the entrances can be seen. Rumor has it that these passages were for men staying at the hotel with their wives, allowing them to secretly go to the other two hotels to see their mistresses.
5. What was the top floor when the building was a hotel?

Answer: Ballroom

The top floor was a ballroom but now just storage. Rumor has it that it is haunted, but the school says it does not "meet building inspection standards". I said the top floor instead of 4th because Flagler made the 1st floor the lobby and the 2rd floor the 1st. I did not want to confuse you.
6. What one of these sports is NOT officially sanctioned at Flagler College?

Answer: Football

Though Flagler College has men's baseball, women's/men's soccer, women's/men's tennis, they do not have football. The school joke is that our football team is and always will be undefeated.
7. What city is the Flagler College extension program in?

Answer: Tallahassee, Florida

Though Flagler College is a small independent school, and extension of it is in Tallahassee.
8. Who is the angelic face in every room on the fireplace and all over the original structure?

Answer: Jennie Louise

Henry loved his daughter Jennie Louise very much and it devastated him when she died. She is the basis of the angelic face.
9. Who was the president of the school for 30 years?

Answer: Dr. Proctor

Dr. Proctor is a legend at Flagler. He created the high standards that staff, students and faculty alike must strive to meet. It was an honor to attend school there while he was large and in charge. He handed over the responsibility just as I left.
10. What is the Flagler College Saints mascot?

Answer: Lion

The mascot is a lion. I am not positive where it came from. Maybe from the Lions Bridge down the road.
