5. McLaren P1
The McLaren P1 is a limited-production hybrid hypercar manufactured by McLaren Automotive, a British supercar company. It was introduced in 2013 and was part of the "holy trinity" of hybrid hypercars along with the Porsche 918 Spyder and the LaFerrari, all of which were released around the same time.
The McLaren P1 features a hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine produces 727 horsepower while the electric motor adds an additional 176 horsepower. It takes 2.8 seconds for the P1 to go from 0 to 100 km/h. The McLaren P1 is not only a testament to McLaren's engineering prowess but is also a symbol of the evolving landscape of high-performance cars with an increasing focus on hybrid and electric powertrains and their ever-improving abilities and capabilities.
6. Pininfarina Battista
The Pininfarina Battista is an all-electric hypercar produced by Automobili Pininfarina, an Italian luxury car manufacturer. Named after Battista "Pinin" Farina, the founder of the Pininfarina design house, this hypercar represents a significant shift towards electric performance vehicles and sustainable designs.
The Pininfarina Battista is powered by an all-electric drivetrain that consists of four electric motors, one at each wheel, providing a total output of an incredible 1,900 horsepower. The car's acceleration is off the charts, going from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds! The top speed is limited to 350 km/h electronically but many are sure that without the limitations, the car could drive at a much faster speed. Only 150 of these cars were produced at 3.3 million USD each.
7. Pagani Zonda Cinque
The Pagani Zonda Cinque is an exclusive and high-performance hypercar produced by the Italian manufacturer Pagani Automobili. It was introduced in 2009 as a limited-edition variant of the Pagani Zonda, one of Pagani's iconic models. The name "Cinque" is Italian for "five," signifying that only five units of this extraordinary car were ever produced.
The Zonda Cinque is powered by a naturally aspirated 7.3-liter V12 engine sourced from Mercedes-AMG. This engine produces a substantial 678 horsepower which allows for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds. The carbon-fiber body makes the car lightweight and is paired with cutting-edge aerodynamics making the car very fast.
The Zonda series was introduced in the late 1990s as an exclusive hypercar line with many of the cars going for in excess on a million dollars (US).
8. Lotus Evija
The Lotus Evija is an all-electric hypercar produced by the British sports car manufacturer Lotus Cars. Introduced in July 2019, the Evija represents a significant departure from Lotus's traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, this being their first all-electric hypercar. The name "Evija" is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word for "the first in existence" or "the living one".
The Lotus Evija is powered by an all-electric powertrain, which consists of four electric motors, one at each wheel. The combined power output is an astounding 2,000 horsepower which can allow acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 320 km/h. The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque, both lightweight and strong. This is in line with the previous traditional Lotus models. Production of this hypercar was capped at an initial 130 units.
9. Aston Martin Valkyrie
The Aston Martin Valkyrie is a carbon-fiber hypercar built by the successful British manufacturers who also built cars for James Bond, Aston Martin, in partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, a division dedicated to racing. First conceived in 2016, the production model was only released in 2021 with 150 cars to be produced in total. Due to Covid-19 and other production line delays, the deliveries of the vehicles was delayed. The name "Valkyrie" was chosen to continue the Aston Martin trend of having their car names start with a 'v', as well as to inspire an image of godliness.
The car is a hybrid, powered on one hand by a 6.5 liter naturally-aspirated V12 (when released, this was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine installed in a road-worthy car), and also a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. All told, it produces 1140 horsepower which allows an acceleration of 2.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
