Of course, "Sisi" (1838 - 1898), the wife of Franz Joseph, the second-to-last emperor of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. The musical was written by Sylvester Levay (music) and Michael Kunze (book & lyrics), and it became famous all over the world.

The role of Elisabeth made Pia really famous, though she wasn't a "nobody" before that. She's from the Netherlands, an amazing and charismatic actress with a really stunning voice. Pia sings the role on both highlight-records (Vienna and Essen), whereas you can hear Maya Hakvoort (she's Dutch, too) on the complete recording from 1996.

3. The other leading role in the Levay's and Kunze's 1992 musical is a "timeless", handsome man, but he's not human. What is personified in him?

The authors claim that Elisabeth longed for death all her life, and so Death appears throughout the show. He is handsome and charming. They first meet when Elisabeth has an accident as a child, and Death accompanies her through childhood, marriage and fame.

He loves her, too, so there is kind of a happy end when they are united in the end. Our most popular musical singer, Uwe Kroeger, created this role - which made him famous - in Vienna and Essen, and he is simply irresistible. You can hear him on both highlight-records. On the complete recording, Addo Kruizinga (another Dutchman) played the role.

Lucheni murdered Elisabeth because the Duke of Orleans - whom he actually wanted to kill - didn't show up (that's a fact!). In the musical, Death tells him to (he also gives Lucheni the weapon), and Lucheni tells the Judge that he murdered the empress because she wanted him to - she was in love with Death.

5. Finally: The empress's song became the greatest hit of the show. What's it called?

Would be translated as "I Belong To Me". Elisabeth doesn't want to be told what to do, she wants to break free from all the obligations and conventions. "Der letzte Tanz" ("The Last Dance") is sung by Death at the wedding of Elisabeth and Franz Joseph, expressing that she might have resisted him this time, but someday the very last dance will be his. "Die Schatten werden laenger" ("The Shadows Grow Longer") is a powerful duet between Death and Elisabeth's son Rudolf where Death persuades Rudolf to join in a Hungarian conspiracy - with fatal results that lead to Rudolf's suicide in 1889.

This song is my favorite. "Wenn ich dein Spiegel waer" ("If I Was Your Mirror") is sung by Rudolf to his mother, begging of her to save him from the emperor's anger after his conspiracy has failed.

She refuses, thus abandoning her son and breaking the last chains still holding her to her husband and the court.

Based on "The Fearless Vampire Killers". Polanski also directed the musical. A great show, very funny and very close to the movie.
