UK Coasters & Theme Parks Trivia Questions

1. In the late 1980s a new theme park emerged from the rural heartland of a constituent nation of the United Kingdom. In which country was Oakwood Theme Park established in 1987?

From Quiz
Thrilled at Oakwood Theme Park!

Answer: Wales

In the late 1980s, many British farmers were finding that they could no longer make a living from their farms and the need for diversification was apparent. Oakwood Theme Park was therefore a fabulous creation based on the innovation of a farming family from Pembrokeshire, west Wales. One of the signature features of Oakwood Theme Park was the use of the surrounding vegetation from the local farmland to enhance the theme park experience. A perfect example of this was the Treetops Family Roller Coaster built in 1989. This medium paced ride was built around the trees and gave the impression of flying through a canopy!

2. Where is the attraction Hocus Pocus Hall located?

From Quiz Chessington World Of Adventures!

Answer: Adventure Point

Hocus Pocus Hall is opposite the entrance to the park, and very close to Transylvania. It was added to the park in 2003 and you walk through the haunted house wearing 3D glasses, to make the experience more exciting.

3. Where would you find Drayton Manor?

From Quiz British Theme Parks and Rollercoasters

Answer: Staffordshire

Drayton Manor is a small park in Staffordshire that nobody really knows about. Of course, Alton Towers isn't too far away and is also more popular than Drayton Manor.

4. Which roller coaster has got four interversions, is the same as Nemesis and is at Thorpe Park?

From Quiz Roller Coasters in the UK

Answer: Nemesis Inferno

Nemesis Inferno was based on an idea from Nemesis. They both look the same, except for the track colours.

5. There was only one coaster in the park which has height restrictions and could be considered an adult roller coaster. What was its name?

From Quiz Skegness Pleasure Beach

Answer: Storm

Built in 1989 and standing 40 feet high it's not the tallest coaster in the world but it is the tallest at Pleasure Beach. It is 1066 feet long and cars can reach speeds of 35 mph.

6. I've walked on a little, and am now staring up at the ride 'Falls of Terror'. How many waterslides does it offer?

From Quiz Lightwater Valley

Answer: Three

Well done if you got it right! Slides number 1 and 2 require heights of 1.1m to ride, as they tense your belly. Slide number 3 requires a height of 1m, and is the wettest slide of them all. Luckily, you go down in rafts, not your butt.

7. Blackpool's Pleasure Beach is, as its name suggests, found on a beach. It also stands on one of Blackpool's most famous tourist attractions - The Illuminations. By what name is the road containing The Illuminations commonly known?

From Quiz A Tour of Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Answer: The Golden Mile

The stunning light display is actually 6 miles long and goes from Starr Gate (where I work :)) to Bispham. First displayed in 1879, The Illuminations are usually switched on in August and last through the autumn to November. The lights "switch-on" is usually a big event attended by many. The lights themselves are usually switched on by a celebrity guest. Celebrities who have switched on the lights include Terry Wogan, Les Dawson, Frank Bruno, Shirley Bassey, Westlife, and in 2009 Alan Carr. With a few exceptions (mostly due to the two World Wars) The Illuminations have shone each and every year since 1879. The cost of maintaining the lights (in terms of production, repair, and power) is high. The traffic can build up massively later in the evening, meaning my bus home from work is often late! Many capitalize on the static cars by walking up and down the prom, selling flashy (literally) merchandise.

8. The main attraction at Oakwood Theme Park was a wooden roller coaster that struck 'great fear' into those who queued up to ride it. What was the name of this roller coaster and main attraction at the theme park?

From Quiz Thrilled at Oakwood Theme Park!

Answer: Megafobia

I hope my clue within the question helped out if you weren't sure here. Megafobia was built in 1996 and was, at the time, the largest roller coaster in Europe made of wood. Megafobia was for over a decade the main attraction at the Welsh based Oakwood Theme Park and was the primary reason for the increase in visitor numbers to the theme park.

9. In what year was Beanoland opened?

From Quiz Chessington World Of Adventures!

Answer: 2000

10. The Traumatizer at Southport Pleasure Land was moved to another park in 2007 and given a repaint. What was the new name of the ride and the name of the park it was moved to?

From Quiz British Theme Parks and Rollercoasters

14. In 1997 Oakwood Theme Park added a brand new attraction which exploited one's fear of heights! What was the name of this theme park attraction that may have made the visitors a little 'dizzy'?

From Quiz Thrilled at Oakwood Theme Park!

Answer: Vertigo

This was one of the rides at Oakwood Theme Park that I never had the guts to try. Not only because of the fact that it dropped you from a great height along a parabolic path, but because they charged you extra to try it! Despite the extra costs Vertigo was a very successful attraction at the theme park, often resulting in people having to reserve their place in advance if they wished to sample the delights of 'flying'.

15. Which ride in Mexicana is named after a snake?

19. As well as traditional roller coasters, Oakwood Theme Park was home to a few water coasters that were just as terrifying! What was the name of the theme park's largest water coaster?

From Quiz Thrilled at Oakwood Theme Park!

Answer: Hydro

At the time of Hydro's construction in 2002, it was the largest water coaster in Europe. Not only that, but Hydro was right up there with the largest water coasters in the world. It was essentially a water slide, well, a 100ft water slide and may I add that the drop was very close to vertical! A few years after the attraction's inception it made the national headlines after a teenager died on the ride. The main safety feature of the ride before the controversial incident was a lap bar. This was subsequently changed to shoulder restraints, similar to those used on many roller coasters.
