He was adopted by the Kents, John and Martha. They pulled his spaceship out of a field and raised him until their own demise. It wasn't mentioned in the musical how old Clark was when they died, but he was at least in his late teens if not already a full adult.

He was quite upset that he had lost the Nobel Prize ten times in all. The ray had been installed at the university to squash student uprisings the year before the play was set. Quite a piece of writing in the script.

She chooses a chick flick! His idea of a good movie is "Mindless, violent action." In the end he watches the movie, gets caught up and starts crying!
