Omad Kaeg was part of a mining cooperative in the Chiloon Rift who was scammed in a sabacc competition against a Mandalorian named Scarn. The reason for this scam was to coerce Kaeg out of his shares in the cooperative so that the shares can be given to the main antagonists of the novel, the Qreph brothers. As a result, he goes with Han and Leia to defeat the villains.
