Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller portrayed male nurse Gaylord Focker in "Meet the Parents" and in its sequels "Meet the Fockers" (2004) and "Little Fockers" (2010). Focker's nemesis in the original movie was Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), an ex-CIA counterintelligence officer who disapproved of Focker's profession as a male nurse. The movie focused on Focker's attempts to gain Jack's approval and blessing so he could marry his daughter Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo).

2. (1978) After WWII many Nazis, including Dr. Josef Mengele, escaped to South America. This much is fact. The fiction begins when a young Nazi hunter stumbles upon a plot by Mengele to clone Hitler, and reestablish the Third Reich.

Answer: The Boys From Brazil

Franklin J. Shaffner directed this suspenseful movie that starred Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Steve Guttenberg and Denholm Elliott.

3. The 1970 Robert Altman movie "M*A*S*H" introduced one of the most famous comedic nurses of all time, Major 'Hot Lips' Houlihan. Who played Major Houlihan in the movie?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Sally Kellerman

Sally Kellerman was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing 'Hot Lips' Houlihan in "M*A*S*H". The movie also starred Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould and Robert Duvall. It followed the antics of Army surgeons in a MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit during the Korean War. Nurse Houlihan was the target of many pranks pulled by the surgeons. Loretta Swit took over the role of Major Houlihan on the TV series "M*A*S*H". During the run of the show, Major Houlihan became much more than just a foil for the antics of the surgeons.

4. (1970) Practical jokes and outrageous humour help everyone keep their sanity, as they go about the business of saving lives, at a field hospital during the Korean War. This is the movie that spawned one of my all time favourite television shows.

Robert Altman directed this funny but disturbing film that starred Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Tom Skerrit, Sally Kellerman, Robert Duvall and Gary Burghoff.

5. This movie was set during the outbreak of World War II and featured Kate Beckinsale as Navy Nurse Evelyn Johnson. Which movie was this that also featured the Oscar nominated song "There You'll Be"?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Pearl Harbor

The 2001 movie "Pearl Harbor" followed the story of a love triangle between Nurse Evelyn Johnson and two best friends Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh Harnett). The love triangle played out with the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Doolittle Raid as backdrops.

6. The star-studded 1999 movie "Magnolia" featured which actor in the role of the kind-hearted and coincidently named nurse Phil Parma?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Philip Seymour Hoffman

Although Tom Cruise and William H. Macy both appeared in "Magnolia", it was Philip Seymour Hoffman who played Phil Parma. Parma was a male nurse who took care of the terminally ill and very rich Earl Partridge. Parma not only cared for Partridge but also protected him from manipulative and meddlesome relatives.

7. This doctor is associated with many entertaining movies for children. The "doctor" himself was not a doctor at all, but rather an imaginative writer and cartoonist named Theodor Geisel. Which doctor is this?

From Quiz Doctor Whom?

Answer: Seuss

Dr. Seuss books that have been turned into movies include "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (1966 and 2000), "The Cat in the Hat" (2003) and "Horton Hears a Who!" (2008). Theodor Seuss Geisel (Seuss was his mother's maiden name) published 44 children's books before his death in 1991, at the age of 77. While the correct German pronunciation rhymes with "voice", Geisel eventually switched to the Seuss we commonly hear today (like Zeus, the Olympian god), in part because the incorrect pronunciation was becoming so common.

8. Which rocker played Nurse John McFadden in the 2009 movie "Precious"?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz portrayed Nurse John McFadden in the Academy Award winning movie "Precious". In the movie, McFadden was the first man to ever show kindness to the title character, played by Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe. He treated her with respect and dignity with no ulterior motives while she was having her second baby, as a result of rape.

9. Harrison Ford again portrays a doctor in a 1993 movie, only this time, rather than searching for a religious artefact, he's on a hunt for the one-armed man who killed his wife. Can you name this doctor?

From Quiz Doctor Whom?

Answer: Kimble

"The Fugitive" was based on a television series of the same name which aired from 1963-1967 and starred David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards; it won one (Best Supporting Actor - Tommy Lee Jones), lost four to "Schindler's List" (including Best Picture) and lost the remaining two to "Jurassic Park".

10. Viggo Mortenson and Naomi Watts starred in which 2007 movie, about a British-Russian midwife and her dealings with the Russian mob in London? (Hint: Look to the sunrise.)

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Naomi Watts played midwife Anna Khitrova. Anna found a diary on the body of 14 year old Tatiana who died while giving birth to a baby girl. Anna took the diary and sought out the family of the baby to return her to her kin. In the process she came into contact with the Russian mafia.

11. (1982) This tongue-in-cheek spoof of soap operas follows the trials and tribulations of a bunch of med. students, including a brilliant young doctor-in-training who sickens at the sight of blood.

From Quiz Is There a Doctor in the House?

Garry Marshall directed this film that was a little too slap-stick for my taste. It starred Sean Young, Michael McKean, Dabney Coleman, Patrick Coleman and Gary Friedlan.

12. Which movie, that starred Kiera Knightley and James McAvoy as wronged lovers, featured the story of Briony, who sought 'redemption' as a nurse during World War II?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Atonement

Kiera Knightley played Cecilia Tallis and James McAvoy played Robbie Turner. The two fell in love but their love was destroyed by Cecelia's younger sister, Briony, who accused Robbie of raping Cecelia. Years later, Briony realized the error of what she had done and attempted to make amends. During her journey towards atonement, she ended up as a nurse who must care for a dying soldier.

13. The movie "The English Patient" revolved around the story of Hana, a French Canadian nurse, and a mysterious wounded man as the title character. Which actress won an Academy Award for playing Hana?

From Quiz Entertaining Nurses

Answer: Juliette Binoche

Juliette Binoche won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1996 for playing Hana. The movie won eight other Academy Awards including Best Picture. The movie followed the story of Hana as she cared for the unknown wounded man and had a love affair with an Indian Sikh sapper in the British Army, Kip (Naveen Andrews). The movie revolved around her story and the story of the mystery man as it was revealed in flashbacks.
