1. One of my favourite movie doctors ran into trouble with a group of Libyan terrorists when he stole plutonium from them and used it to fuel a DeLorean DMC-12, which he had turned into a time machine. Question 2 of 10
2. Our next movie doctor began as a role on TV: originally part of a "five-year mission to explore strange new worlds" (etc.), our doctor also appeared in six feature films between 1979 and 1991. Which doctor is this, played by American actor DeForest Kelley? Hint

Portrayed by Harrison Ford, first in 1981, which doctor am I referring to? Hint

Question 5 of 10

He has appeared in more than 180 movies, sidekick to the famous sleuth residing at 221B Baker Street. The doctor's first cinematic appearance was in 1905 where the role was played by H. Kyrle Bellew. Who is this famous doctor?

Answer: (One Word - Last Name)

Question 8 of 10
8. Can you identify this next cinematic doctor? The role was played by Bruce Willis in 1999. The plot of the movie follows the doctor, a child psychologist, as he tries to help a young boy who claims to be able to see and interact with supernatural beings. Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. We're nearing the end of our list! This doctor made his film debut in 2008, in the first of a series of four books by Stephenie Meyer to be adapted for the silver screen. This doctor is responsible for saving many human lives, though he himself has not been "human" in more than 400 years. Who is he? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Our last doctor comes from an obscure little movie, filmed and set in the Canadian province of Québec. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of my favourite movie doctors ran into trouble with a group of Libyan terrorists when he stole plutonium from them and used it to fuel a DeLorean DMC-12, which he had turned into a time machine. Played by Christopher Lloyd in 1985 (also appearing in the 1989 and 1990 sequels), who is this movie doctor?

Answer: Brown

Doctor Emmett "Doc" Brown first conceived the idea of the "flux capacitor" (the device that makes time travel possible) in 1955 when he slipped in the bathroom, while trying to hang a clock, and hit his head on the sink. It is to this date that Marty McFly accidentally travels and thence attempts to return "Back to the Future" (ie. 1985) with the help of a young Doc Brown.
2. Our next movie doctor began as a role on TV: originally part of a "five-year mission to explore strange new worlds" (etc.), our doctor also appeared in six feature films between 1979 and 1991. Which doctor is this, played by American actor DeForest Kelley?

Answer: Leonard McCoy

The iconic role of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy was played by Kelley for more than thirty years as part of the original "Star Trek" cast. The role was reprised in the 2009 film "Star Trek" with New Zealand's Karl Urban playing a younger Bones McCoy.

The alternate answers are all doctors from the "Star Trek" universe: Beverly Crusher ("Star Trek: The Next Generation"; 1987-2002), Julian Bashir ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"; 1993-1999) and Dr. Phlox ("Enterprise"/"Star Trek: Enterprise"; 2001-2005).
3. While this doctor was James Bond's sixth literary nemesis, he was 007's first cinematic quarry, pitted against Sean Connery in a 1962 film. Which doctor is this?

Answer: No

One of the main reasons I accepted this author challenge was the idea of presenting this question in the yes/no format. I hope it gave you a chuckle. :)

"Dr. No" (1958) was Ian Fleming's sixth novel about super-spy James Bond, following "Casino Royale" (1953), "Live and Let Die" (1954), "Moonraker" (1955), "Diamonds Are Forever" (1956) and "From Russia, with Love" (1957). The movies were made in a completely different order: Of these six, Sean Connery, the original cinematic Bond, starred in only three: "Dr. No", "From Russia, with Love" (1963) and "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971). "Live and Let Die" (1973) and "Moonraker" (1979) starred Roger Moore.

"Casino Royale" was not cinematized in true Bond form until 2006, with Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan as the dashing Mr. Bond. (There was, however, an earlier Bond spoof movie released under the same title in 1967.)

The role of Dr. Julius No was played by Joseph Wiseman.
4. Doctor #4 is not often thought of in terms of his doctorate, or as a mild-mannered professor of archaeology at Marshall College. You'll more likely remember him trying to out-run a gigantic boulder, cheating at sword-fights in Cairo, or rescuing the love of his life, Marion, from the Nazis. Portrayed by Harrison Ford, first in 1981, which doctor am I referring to?

Answer: Jones

The film was "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Ford reprised the role in 1984 ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"), 1989 ("...Last Crusade") and 2008 ("...Kingdom of the Crystal Skull").

Indiana Smith was the character's original name in the screenplay written by George Lucas, but Steven Spielberg, the movie's directer, didn't like the feel of the name. Lucas suggested Jones instead, and the result was the iconic action hero known and loved by millions of fans around the world.

The scene where Indiana Jones wins a sword-fight with a gun was actually not scripted that way at all! On the day that the choreographed sword-fight scene was to be filmed, Harrison Ford was experiencing some very discommoding gastro-intestinal trouble and didn't want to spend the day filming a complicated scene. Instead, out came the gun, and the intricate sword-fight became a scene almost vaudeville in its comedy.
5. With a little "elementary" knowledge, you should be able to identify this next movie doctor: He has appeared in more than 180 movies, sidekick to the famous sleuth residing at 221B Baker Street. The doctor's first cinematic appearance was in 1905 where the role was played by H. Kyrle Bellew. Who is this famous doctor?

Answer: Watson

Contrary to popular belief, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle never penned the phrase "Elementary, my dear Watson!"; Holmes often said "elementary" and sometimes referred to his friend as "my dear Watson", but never together in more than sixty stories. The phrase was a cinematic creation, first appearing in the 1929 film "The Return of Sherlock Holmes", which was also the first Sherlock Holmes movie to be filmed with sound.

Watson was the narrator character in all but four Sherlock Holmes mysteries.
6. This doctor is associated with many entertaining movies for children. The "doctor" himself was not a doctor at all, but rather an imaginative writer and cartoonist named Theodor Geisel. Which doctor is this?

Answer: Seuss

Dr. Seuss books that have been turned into movies include "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (1966 and 2000), "The Cat in the Hat" (2003) and "Horton Hears a Who!" (2008).

Theodor Seuss Geisel (Seuss was his mother's maiden name) published 44 children's books before his death in 1991, at the age of 77. While the correct German pronunciation rhymes with "voice", Geisel eventually switched to the Seuss we commonly hear today (like Zeus, the Olympian god), in part because the incorrect pronunciation was becoming so common.
7. Harrison Ford again portrays a doctor in a 1993 movie, only this time, rather than searching for a religious artefact, he's on a hunt for the one-armed man who killed his wife. Can you name this doctor?

Answer: Kimble

"The Fugitive" was based on a television series of the same name which aired from 1963-1967 and starred David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble.

The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards; it won one (Best Supporting Actor - Tommy Lee Jones), lost four to "Schindler's List" (including Best Picture) and lost the remaining two to "Jurassic Park".
8. Can you identify this next cinematic doctor? The role was played by Bruce Willis in 1999. The plot of the movie follows the doctor, a child psychologist, as he tries to help a young boy who claims to be able to see and interact with supernatural beings.

Answer: Malcolm Crowe

"The Sixth Sense" was director/screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan's breakout movie, rocketing him to success on an international scale and setting the precedent for the "twist endings" which have become trademarks of his films.

Cole Sear, played by Haley Joel Osment, was the young boy in "The Sixth Sense". Officer John McClane is Bruce Willis' character from the "Die Hard" series (1988, 1990, 1995 and 2007) and Ernest Menville was another doctor character played by Willis, in "Death Becomes Her" (1992).
9. We're nearing the end of our list! This doctor made his film debut in 2008, in the first of a series of four books by Stephenie Meyer to be adapted for the silver screen. This doctor is responsible for saving many human lives, though he himself has not been "human" in more than 400 years. Who is he?

Answer: Cullen

Dr. Carlisle Cullen is the head of a family unit (or coven) of vampires that reside in the Pacific north-west United States. Dr. Cullen's part in the story is largely peripheral; the central characters are his "son", Edward (a dying boy he changed in the early 20th century), and a human girl named Bella with whom Edward falls in love.
10. Our last doctor comes from an obscure little movie, filmed and set in the Canadian province of Québec. The plot of the movie follows the citizens of a poor fishing village, who have been promised a new factory if they can secure a physician to take up residence in Sainte-Marie-La-Mauderne. What's the name of the doctor whom the townsfolk are trying to "seduce" through the course of the film?

Answer: Lewis

The film's title is "La Grande Séduction" (2003; titled "Seducing Doctor Lewis" in English) and was filmed in the small community of Herrington Harbour, Québec. The townspeople go to great lengths to discover the doctor's interests and hobbies and try to recreate them on the small island--often incompetently and always with amusing results.

The role of Christopher Lewis was played by David Boutin.
