Glen Campbell was born Glen Travis Campbell in Delight, Arkansas, USA, in 1936. He moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and became a member of The Champs. He also served a long apprenticeship as a session musician backing such acts as The Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, Merle Haggard, Jan & Dean, Dean Martin, The Monkees, Rick Nelson, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra. Between 1964 and 1965 he was a touring member of The Beach Boys and played on their 1966 album "Pet Sounds".
He had a string of minor hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1958 and 1968. From 1968 to 1977 he had five Top Ten hits which included the number one hits "Rhinestone Cowboy" (1975) and "Southern Nights" (1977). He made it to the Top 20 on the Billboard Country chart when "Kentucky Means Paradise" (with the Green River Boys) peaked at number 20 in 1962. He then had 11 Top Ten country hits between 1967 and 1971 including the number one hits "I Wanna Live" (1968), "Wichita Lineman" (1968) and "Galveston" (1969).
He had five Top Ten hits on the UK singles chart between 1969 and 1975. His biggest UK hit was "All I Have To Do Is Dream" a duet with Bobbie Gentry which peaked at number three in 1970. It peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year
