Healing and Help in Songs Trivia Questions

1. Who sang "Grandma's Hands" about the hands of the important older woman in his life? Don't lean on me for this answer.

From Quiz
Songs About Aging for Elder Fans

Answer: Bill Withers

Bill Withers wrote "Grandma's Hands" as a salute to his grandmother. His maternal grandmother had been born into slavery in 1855. He grew up feeling very protected and nurtured by her and expressed his love for her in this song. The lyrics talk about how she picked him up and gave him candy when he was young. Then, he expresses how he no longer has his grandmother with him, but he will look for her and her hands when he gets to heaven. This song was placed on Withers' first album, "Just as I Am" (1971). It was also released as a single where it reached number 18 on the Best Selling Soul Singles chart and 42 on the Billboard Hot 100.

2. Keep A Child Alive is an organisation that supports HIV/AIDS-affected communities in Africa and India. It was founded in 2003 by Leigh Blake and which multi Grammy winning artist?

From Quiz Changing The World, One Note At A Time

Answer: Alicia Keys

When Keys was a child, her mother's friend died from HIV/AIDS and this event had a profound effect on her. Much later, after befriending AIDS activist, Leigh Blake, the pair went on a trip to South Africa, where Keys was amazed at the lack of education available to people living in communities affected by the disease. This trip, combined with the memory of her mother's friend inspired Keys and Blake to found the Keep A Child Alive organisation, which aside from providing education, also supplies resources such as medicine, orphan care, and social support to affected communities. The organisation's annual Black Ball fundraising gala has seen performances from Usher, Boy George, Adele, David Bowie and Paul Simon among many others and in its first decade of being held raised over $25 million.

3. Which 1982 Dire Straits song, which alludes to the inhumanity of working nine-to-five, may hint at another malaise with this lyric "Somewhere in the corridors someone was heard to sneeze"?

From Quiz A Song of Hope

Answer: Industrial Disease

The song was released as a single in the USA, by the band as a promotion of its album "Love Over Gold". With its talk of strikes and dysfunctionality, it, initially, laments the decline of Great Britain's manufacturing industries before becoming a metaphor for the nine-to-five routine that was sucking out the human in humans. The writer, Mark Knopfler, includes a sly reference to one of the first bands that he and Pick Withers were involved in, Brewer's Droop. This question was coughed into life by Phoenix Rising's pollucci19.

From Quiz Songs About Aging for Elder Fans

Answer: Harry Chapin

His son repeatedly lets his dad know that he is going to be just like his dad when he grows up. When his son graduates from college, his dad wants to sit with him for a while, but the son just wants the car keys.
