Cissy Houston changed the title when she recorded a version of the song. Weatherly forwarded the song to Gladys Knight's publisher and Gladys preferred Cissy's adaptation. "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" went to Number Three the following year. In 1967, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", made it to Number Two. "If I Were Your Woman" was a 1970 Top Ten hit for the group.
