Fun Trivia
Quiz Creation Guidelines are generic and apply to all categories in Quizzyland. The creation notes in here (see the six topics below) outline some of the peculiarities which apply only to quizzes in the Music category. Before you create a quiz, please play as many games as you can to familiarise yourself with the contents of Quiz Creation Guidelines and these Notes. Please do NOT write a quiz unless you've played some games and are familiar with the contents of the Guidelines and these Notes.

The most common errors are:
(a) time reference questions the answer is not a constant, and may change as time goes by,
(b) linked questions inter-dependent questions are not allowed, each question must stand on its own two feet,
(c) date stamping of questions with 'as of 2003' which results in questions going stale,
(d) inadequate or an absence of blurbs explaining the answer don't leave players hanging, wondering why the answer is correct, and
(e) writing a quiz in the present tense should be avoided, write it in the past tense if at all possible.

Minor typos and spelling errors in quizzes are usually corrected by Editors before going online, but quizzes with a significant number of errors will be returned, as will quizzes which do not adhere to the Quiz Creation Guidelines and these Notes.

  • Song and album titles: Tiltes and lyrics must be in quotation marks unless they are standing alone as an entire answer. This is easier if you think of quotation marks as italics for titles.
  • Fill-in-the-blank answers: These must not have quotation marks or other punctuation - and remember that we no longer accept quizzes with several fill in the blank answers. As a general rule, use them very sparingly and only with clearcut answers.
  • Quizzes with ten or more questions: Althought these must now have interesting info for all of the questions, the Editors may request still more interesting info at their discretion.
  • Interesting info: Answer blurbs must be in complete sentences and should go beyond simply giving the title of a song or album - remember, explaining an answer (and why the other three alternatives are wrong) this is often the most important part of a quiz, so put some time into it.
Mixed Quizzes - Mixed quizzes must be on a real mixture of bands, not just two or three. No more than two questions about any one band, in a mixed quiz.
  • Quizzes under construction: Please note that quizzes which have not been submitted after 2 months will be deleted. If you would like more time to create your quiz, add the words *Please do not delete or something similar to the title of your quiz.
  • Rejection of quizzes by Editors: If your quiz is rejected, don't get upset - make the suggested changes and resubmit. If you don't understand the rejection note, reply to the editor and politely ask for help and clarification. We will make sure that anyone who puts some effort forward will get his or her quiz online and will offer any help we can.
  • Correction Notes: When filing a correction with the author of a quiz, keep in mind that this is a fun site, not a competition and the points earned are just for fun. Also keep in mind that there are many children and young adults making some of these quizzes so try to 'cut them some slack' about their errors. Rude and offensive remarks (even if they are to your friends) will be reported to the webmaster and could result in your suspension, or ejection, from this site. When making a correction, make certain your information is correct and be sure to include the question number so we can find the error. All error reports will be evaluated. Above all, have fun and enjoy this site!

Do not submit quizzes with the following: offensive language or material, long or hard-to-spell fill-in-the-blank answers, questions asking for track numbers or song lengths (they may vary from country to country) on an album, questions asking for shortest or longest songs on an album, or silly answers (like 'who cares,' 'I don't know,' etc.). Please put your quizzes in an appropriate sub-category! If you reference a chart position as part of the question or interesting info, you must tell the chart (for example, "Billboard") and the year. Quizzes on single songs are extremely difficult to write; please don't try this until you have some experience as a quiz writer. Test your knowledge by taking the quiz called "How to Make a Good Music Quiz" (see below).

    QCNs for Music Trivia Questions

    1. Here are some more true false questions, which one works the BEST?

    From Quiz
Is My Music Quiz Ready to Submit?

Answer: "Turaraluralura" won the Academy Award for the best song in 1938.

I'm making up these titles but the correct answer is factual and you can document it. The Joan Ramada one is opinion. The Bobby one is clearly subject to change and not documented. And the hairstyles and colors are obviously subject to change, though Mick Jagger's hair has not changed much over the years! If you were to talk about a specific appearance you could say, "In Elton's royal performance in 1980, he wore high heels and rhinestone glasses and made the Queen Mum faint", but not a very good thing for a true and false question.

    2. Here are some more true false questions for you to proofread. Can you find the question that is ready to submit to music?

From Quiz Is My Music Quiz Ready to Submit?

Answer: "Mississippi Nocturne" was composed in 1945.

"Mississippi Nocturne" was composed in 1945. Quizzyland's music section requires you to capitalize proper nouns and put song and album titles within quotation marks in text. "Overture in B Flat" would be the correct way to write it in this example. The other two have spelling errors. One more thing though, always remember to limit your true false questions per quiz. Now, hope you have survived this quiz, remember that our volunteer editing staff is there to help you to get your work in shape, but not to do the work for you. The more work you put in beforehand, the quicker we'll get you online and your quiz will get the attention it deserves.
