On 27th May 1934, all First Round matches were held simultaneously, and the encounter between Italy and USA in Rome ended with an emphatic 7-1 win to the host side. Germany and Belgium was a First Round match and it was held in Florence. It was also high-scoring, producing a scoreline of 5-2 to Germany. France was eliminated in Turin in the First Round by Austria (extra-time was required to get the final score of 3-2), and therefore never met eventual third-placed Germany. Egypt was eliminated in Naples in the First Round, 4-2 by Hungary. England was not eligible to play due to not being a part of FIFA at the time.

Germany lost out 3-1 to Czechoslovakia in the semi-final in Rome, but defeated Austria 3-2 in Naples to get third-place. The final in Rome ended 2-1 to Italy over Czechoslovakia after extra-time.
