Law And Order: Los Angeles Trivia Questions

1. Which item did Luis and Don, the two DPW workers, first find in the water at the beginning of the episode?

From Quiz
1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Bicycle

This episode begins with a conversation between two employees of the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, or DPW for short. Luis is the worker who finds the bike, while Don complains about people thinking that the water is a trashcan. Three teenagers throw rocks at the workers while one of them claims to be the owner of the bike. Then, one of the workers is alerted to a dead body in the water. He vomits after seeing the corpse.

2. This episode opens with a busy night at a California restaurant as the song "Bamboleo" by Gipsy Kings plays in the background. In what language is "Bamboleo" sung?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Spanish

"Bamboleo" is an upbeat song in Spanish, even though the band Gipsy Kings is French. The group, which was born in 1978, is known for creating many great songs that blend the flamenco style with pop and rock. The band was founded by the brothers Nicolas and Andre Reyes with Jacques, Maurice, and Tonino Baliardo. All founding members were born in France, but most of their music is in Spanish because they were raised by Spanish Romani parents. "Bamboleo" is perhaps their most popular song. It was released in 1987 in their album "Gipsy Kings" and has been covered by other famous Spanish-language artists like Celia Cruz and Julio Iglesias.

3. The episode starts, for the second time in a row, with a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Which song, a cover of a 1973 song by Stevie Wonder, plays as the third episode of "Law & Order: Los Angeles" opens?

From Quiz 1.3 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Harbor City"

Answer: Higher Ground

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American band from Los Angeles who have released more than 10 studio albums and have attained worldwide popularity. The band started with Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea, and Jack Irons. Slovak and Irons have been replaced by several other musicians throughout the years, including Jesse Tobias, Dave Navarro, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante. The band has won multiple Grammy Awards as well as other accolades from organizations like MTV and Billboard. The song used in the episode is "Higher Ground", a funk song released by Stevie Wonder in 1973 and covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1989. The track was the first single of "Mother's Milk", their fourth studio album. This was the second time in a row that "Law & Order: Los Angeles" used a song by the group to open an episode; the first was in the previous episode "Echo Park" which opened with "Venice Queen". This episode was also the first in the series to use the traditional voice opening by Steven Zirnkilton.

4. The episode kicks off with scenic images of Los Angeles and its beautiful beaches while the song "Venice Queen" plays in the background. Which American band, also known for hits like "Snow" and "By The Way", released that song in 2002?

From Quiz 1.2 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Echo Park"

Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Venice Queen" was the last track in the Red Hot Chili Peppers' eighth studio album "By The Way", released in July 2002. The song was written by vocalist Anthony Kiedis and is about a woman called Gloria Scott who helped Kiedis with drug rehabilitation for whom he had bought a house in Venice Beach shortly before her death. The group was founded in 1983 and has since received hundreds of different accolades for its music. These include Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song ("Scar Tissue", "Californication", and "Dani California") and the Brit Award for International Group in 2000, 2003, and 2007.

5. Which type of injuries were inflicted on Don Heller, according to the medical examiner who first arrived at the crime scene?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Stab wounds

Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski arrive at the scene and confirm that the dead body is Don's, the worker we saw earlier. The medical examiner tells the detectives that Don has multiple stab wounds on his torso and he also shows defensive wounds on his arm. When interviewed by LAPD, Luis tells the detectives about the boys throwing rocks at them earlier.

6. What activity, common in places with beaches and oceans, was Trevor Knight engaging in at the beginning of this episode?

From Quiz 1.3 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Harbor City"

Answer: Surfing

The episode starts with images of a man (who we later learn is Trevor Knight) swimming and surfing in the ocean with several other people. We then see him walking towards his car, putting his surfboard away, and getting into his car. As he prepares to leave, a blue car blocks him. When he tries to see who it is, the car speeds away, but Trevor doesn't seem to give this incident too much importance. Surfing is a popular sport in places like Hawaii, Brazil, and California, all known for having beautiful beaches and oceans where the activity can be practiced. Surfing involves balancing on a board, either standing or laying down, as the waves from the ocean come closer. It is fun but can also be dangerous if not done with caution!

7. Detective Jaruszalski says he would like to see a working oil rig before who shuts them down?

From Quiz 1.6 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Hondo Field"

Answer: Al Gore

Once the medical examiner tells them that the victim's injuries are consistent with a beating, the detectives debate whether an incident on an oil rig is their jurisdiction. Winters argues that the body appeared on their beach so it's therefore their case. Jaruszalski is pleased with that because he wants to be able to see an oil rig in person "before Al Gore shuts 'em all down". An oil company executive at first refuses to let them in but is forced to do so pursuant to a warrant. The comment probably referred to the notorious environmental efforts by former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore, who produced the films "An Inconvenient Truth" and "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power".

8. Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski go to Rebecca's house to search for clues. Where do they find month-old mold, leading them to believe that she hasn't been living in that house recently?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Bread

Rebecca had been pregnant for months, meaning that if the fetus was killed, it could potentially make it a homicide case. The chef at Rebecca's restaurant says that neither he nor anyone else knew about her pregnancy because she wasn't seeing anyone as far as they knew. The detectives then head to her house, where her landlord tells them that he hasn't seen Rebecca for at least a month. Winters and Jaruszalski find a closet with no clothes and a loaf of bread with mold that Jaruszalski thinks is also about a month old. The landlord says he hasn't seen anyone stalking Rebecca or watching the house.

9. Mr. Miller thinks that Ronnie Powell's name sounds familiar. Which sport, played with a larger ball than its more popular counterpart, did Miller and Ronnie play together a year ago?

From Quiz 1.4 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Sylmar"

Answer: Softball

Still at the scene, the detectives ask Kim if she was there to pick something up, suspecting that she may have been there to buy drugs. Miller responds that Ronnie left his sunglasses with "plastic frames and dark lenses" at her workplace and another cashier gave her the address. Winters and Jaruszalski believe she's lying, which they confirm when she later describes them as glasses with "dark frames and black lenses". The detectives interview Kim and her husband Kevin at their home. There, they find that Ronnie played softball with Kevin last year and that Kim was at Ronnie's because they were having an affair. Kevin then yells "you killed them!" at his wife as Jaruszalski holds him back.

10. What type of "environmentally friendly" car did Don own before his death?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Toyota Prius

Winters and Jaruszalski stop by Don's workplace, the L.A. County Watershed Management Division. His former boss told the detectives about how Don found high levels of mercury in the water, and how he brought it to the attention of the E.P.A. They inspect Don's car, which we learn is a Toyota Prius when Winters turns the car on and the name appears on the screen. The Prius is a hybrid car and is therefore considered better for the environment than conventional vehicles.

11. What surprises the detectives when they go into Freddy's cabin in the oil rig?

From Quiz 1.6 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Hondo Field"

Answer: The bed was perfectly made

Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski get on the oil rig where Freddy worked to investigate. They find that Freddy had been reprimanded or suspended several times while working there. They speak to his supervisor, Ms. Roberts, who tells the detectives she has the job because she is qualified and not just because she is a woman. When the detectives search Freddy's room, they are surprised to find a perfectly made bed, indicating that he didn't spend much time sleeping there. They also find his unpacked duffel bag and a hat, but nothing else. The detectives are confused as to how no one in a packed oil rig saw Freddy the night he died.

12. The detectives visit Robert Forrester, Rebecca's ex-husband, to question him about the hit-and-run. In which "numerical" city, home of the Joshua Tree National Park, does Forrester claim to have been on business?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Twentynine Palms

Robert Forrester tells the detectives that he was away on business in Twentynine Palms and was unaware of what happened to Rebecca. They say to Mr. Forrester that she is in a coma and unfortunately lost her baby. He says he last saw his ex-wife four months ago to agree on a financial settlement after their divorce since she cheated on him. Forrester says that whoever Rebecca was seeing was probably a rich customer who she met at the restaurant. To rule him out as a suspect, the detectives ask for documentation proving that he was at Twentynine Palms. The hotel where he stayed confirms that he was there all night. Twentynine Palms is a city in Southern California. It is known, among other things for being an access point to the Joshua Tree National Park and the home of an important Marine Corps base. It is also close to the Mojave Desert.

13. The police discover that Ronnie Powell ordered Zeta Max, fuel for radio-controlled airplanes made of nitromethane. Winters notes that the material was also used by which criminal, who was responsible for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing?

From Quiz 1.4 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Sylmar"

Answer: Timothy McVeigh

The detectives visit Ronnie's mother's house in Reseda where he lived recently. His sister is not surprised to hear Ronnie is in trouble, but his mom insists that he has done nothing wrong. She also believes that Ronnie's hobby is assembling model airplanes and that she even received shipments from UPS with materials for his planes. Winters and Jaruszalski quickly discover that what Ronnie ordered was Zeta Max, a brand of fuel for radio-controlled airplanes that is made with 99% pure nitromethane. The detectives are troubled because nitromethane is a chemical compound that can be used to make explosives. Soon, the police find out that the explosion wasn't caused by nitromethane, meaning that Ronnie has the fuel somewhere else. Liquid nitromethane, as Detective Winters says, was the material used by domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh to carry out his attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma, which killed more than 150 people and injured more than 600. McVeigh claimed that the attacks were revenge against the federal government for events that happened in 1992 and 1993 in Ruby Ridge and Waco. McVeigh was executed in June 2001.

14. The investigation starts taking shape when the police interview an administrative employee at the security company. How is this employee related to the suspect?

From Quiz 1.3 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Harbor City"

Answer: She is his wife

Trevor's mother explains that her son was using the money from the dispensary to pay for her chemotherapy. Trevor's wife Deena tells Detective Winters she didn't want to move from Hawaii to the mainland nor wanted to sell weed, but there was nothing she could do to stop Trevor. The detectives think that the security company that Trevor had contracted with, Security Arms, may be able to help with the investigation. While questioning a manager, they learn that the company recently acquired some of its competitors and centralized its operations. This would mean that someone in either of those companies could have knowledge about the recent dispensary burglaries. Apparently, Trevor kept missing cash pick-ups because when the security company came to pick up the money, he was busy taking his mother to chemotherapy. This made that safe a great target because it had more cash than usual. The dispatcher they interview tells the detectives that she is getting a divorce, but they don't believe her. They quickly uncover her lies and find out that her husband is serving time for armed robbery at a Vacaville prison. According to the dispatcher, her husband owed a favor to Chuck Roker, a man he met in prison. The dispatcher paid this favor by giving Roker a list of dispensaries serviced by her security company.

15. What delicious Mexican-inspired food was Detective Jaruszalski eating at a South Central establishment?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Carne asada

The detectives suspect that Don was secretly going to places far away from Ballona Creek. They stop by a Mexican food stand and ask the clerk whether he has seen Don, but the employee responds that he has not. Jaruszalski mentions that he is starting to regret eating carne asada. He also refers to Winters' "pibil", which is an allusion to another delicious Mexican food: cochinita pibil. Winters then reveals that this neighborhood was his "first beat", which was largely full of drugs and prostitutes.

16. The investigation leads the detectives to the home of Adam and Carolyn Yarborough. While executing a search warrant, which item belonging to Rebecca was found in their guestroom?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Vitamins

The police find a corporate gas card issued by Yarborough Media Strategies in Rebecca's car. They ask Adam Yarborough about his relationship with Rebecca, but he immediately tells the detectives he should speak to his attorney. Following this suspicion-raising encounter, the LAPD obtains a search warrant for Mr. Yarborough's home. His wife, Carolyn, is as reluctant to answer questions from police as he is. The detectives also ask an OBGYN doctor about Rebecca's baby. He shows them that the address Rebecca gave was Yarborough's, and tells them his office has been sending prenatal vitamins to that same address. Upon the execution of the search warrant, Detective Jaruszalski finds the prenatal vitamins in a medicine cabinet in their guestroom. Carolyn denies knowing Rebecca at first, but then confesses at the police station. According to Adam, his wife cannot have children so they were using Rebecca as a surrogate. Carolyn gives another version of the story and says Adam and Rebecca had an affair in which Rebecca got pregnant. Therefore, the Yarboroughs decided to have Rebecca give birth to the child and then raise the child as their own.

17. When the detectives interrogate Chuck Roker, the criminal explains that he was not responsible for what happened at Harbor City because he was chased off by a Samoan with a Mossberg. Which kind of weapon is a Mossberg?

From Quiz 1.3 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Harbor City"

Answer: Gun

The LAPD conduct an undercover operation that, despite not going as planned, is successful in capturing Chuck Roker. Though he refuses to talk at first, he waives his right to remain silent when he finds out he may be liable for murder. Roker confesses to the prior robberies but insists that he is not guilty of Trevor's killing. He explains that he did intend to rob the dispensary at Harbor City, but he was chased out by a Samoan man who "shoved a sawed-off Mossberg" in his face. He also claims that the man told him Harbor City belongs to "SOS", which stands for the gang Sons of Samoa. Roker also describes the man's car as the same vehicle that Trevor saw earlier: a blue lowrider Impala. The "Mossberg" Roker is referring to is a firearm manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons, a company founded in 1919 in the United States by Swedish immigrant Oscar Frederick Mossberg. The company specializes in long guns that can obviously do a lot of damage.

18. According to Diana McDermott, what did her attempted killer offer her before the crime?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: A ride home

The case takes a stunning turn when the police connect various murders that happened in the 1990s to the same area where Heller drove by days before his own murder. The detectives now suspect Heller was somehow involved with these killings. They interview a survivor, Diana McDermott, who recounts the painful events of that night. She says that the criminal offered her a ride home, and that she accepted it so she got into his car. Then, the man pulled into an alley and held her at knifepoint.

19. While the detectives question a woman in her Bel Air home, which tropical citrus fruit does Jaruszalski help fish out of her pool?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Grapefruit

Yarborough claims he had an alibi for the night Rebecca was attacked: a political fundraiser in Bel Air. The detectives interview the woman whose house hosted the fundraiser, and she says that event was to support candidates for state assembly. She also says that she can't imagine Adam cheating on Carolyn, and tells the detectives that he left the event with Congressman Nelson from Riverside. While Winters speaks to the woman, Jaruszalski is asked to fish out the grapefruit out of her pool, after she is unsuccessful in doing so. Jaruszalski helps while she complains that her husband should've never planted a grapefruit tree right next to the pool. Jaruszalski tries to give her the fruit, but she insists that he keeps it.

20. Why was the family of Sylvia, another murder victim, upset when the detectives visited them?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: They didn't know there had been murders before Sylvia's

With the discovery of a new girl being killed, the detectives believe that the original murderer from the 1990s is killing again. They visit the family of one of the victims, Sylvia. Her parents appear shocked that she was murdered by who is now believed to be a serial killer, since no one told them that there was a killer in their area. They say that they thought Sylvia was killed by "one of her drug friends", and are very upset that they weren't warned there was a murderer in their neighborhood.

21. Since attorney Sarah Goodwin frequently appears as a guest on TV shows, the judge warns her that he doesn't want to hear his name mentioned in which journalist's show?

From Quiz 1.6 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Hondo Field"

Answer: Rachel Maddow

Valerie Roberts pleads not guilty in her first court appearance. She is being represented by Sarah Goodwin, who apparently is known for her appearances on cable news shows. The judge agrees with prosecutor Lauren Stanton in that the nature of the crime makes it reasonable to impose a high bail amount. Then, the judge tells Goodwin that he would rather not hear his name brought up "on Rachel Maddow tonight". The judge was referring to "The Rachel Maddow Show", a popular cable news program on MSNBC hosted by Rachel Maddow.

22. Winters and Jaruszalski investigate in Lunada Bay and find graffiti with the letters "MBC". What does "MBC" stand for? (thinking of a lunar body may help)

From Quiz 1.3 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Harbor City"

Answer: Moon Bay Crew

Joey Fatu is not guilty after all. He was not after the dispensary money, but instead, he thought he could make much more money from Knight's surfing talent. Fatu decided to help Knight's career by scaring his opponent from showing up to the competition, allowing Trevor to win easily. The detectives later find that Trevor had bought a new surfboard because his old one had been destroyed by three "dudes" in Lunada Bay Beach. graffiti on beach MBC. A local sheriff confirms that "MBC" stands for "Moon Bay Crew", a group of rich surfers that intimidate others to keep the ocean to themselves. The MBC is formed by Carlton Campbell, Logan Rudman, and Patrick Scott. None of them have criminal records but they do have some juvenile offenses in their sealed records. They seem to be responsible for the murder of Trevor. DDA Morales identifies Scott as the "target" because he would have the least prepared attorney, allowing him to make a better case against the other two.

23. Which technology was used to narrow the police's search, prompting the ACLU to intervene on behalf of the suspect?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Familial DNA

Through familial DNA, an innovative technology that can find not just a person's DNA, but their relatives as well, the police begin searching for a suspect. The Attorney General authorized the LAPD to use this technology. It leads them to Brandon Duffy and his father, who refuses to be searched and files a restraining order against the police. Counsel for Duffy and the ACLU argue that familial DNA "targets innocent people", but the prosecution says that the findings prove at least that an immediate relative of Brandon Duffy was involved in the crime.

24. Given that the police searched Valerie's berth without a warrant, what constitutional amendment does Attorney Goodwin plan to use to exclude the evidence found?

From Quiz 1.6 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Hondo Field"

Answer: Fourth Amendment

The Fourth Amendment is one of the most important ones concerning privacy in the U.S. Constitution. The amendment guarantees that citizens are free from illegal searches or seizures by the government; that is, without a warrant or within some other exceptions. Attorney Goodwin argues to the judge that the oil rig is still part of the U.S. and constitutional rights apply fully. The prosecution responds that the detectives had permission from the worker who was staying at the berth, and therefore, Roberts had no expectation of privacy in the berth regardless of whether she was there or not. Begrudgingly, the judge sides with Goodwin and deems the evidence inadmissible.

25. The police once again suspect that Robert Forrester was involved in the incident. Where do the detectives go next to corroborate if Forrester was telling the truth? (you probably take your car here often)

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Gas station

Carolyn Yarborough finally reveals the truth to DDA Price: Congressman Nelson used Adam to cover up his affair with Rebecca. In fact, Nelson wanted Rebecca to go to an abortion clinic but she refused. DDA Price talks to Patricia Nelson, the Congressman's wife, while her team gets a DNA sample from him. She says that she wants everything to be clarified, and seems upset at her husband after the prosecutors leave her home. The prosecution then discovers that Robert Forrester works for AQG Industries, one of Yarborough's clients and also beneficiaries of legislation sponsored by Congressman Nelson. Since Forrester started that job immediately after he separated from Rebecca, the prosecutors now believe he was paid off by Congressman Nelson. Rebecca now denies that the Congressman had anything to do with this, so Morales and Price think that she is under duress from Nelson. She gives them a description of the car that ran her over and since it sounds like an older vehicle, the prosecutors want the police to check nearby gas stations where the car must have stopped at some point. The detectives narrow the search down to stations between Pasadena and Twentynine Palms, as they now think Forrester is involved. Winters and Jaruszalski ask the attendant at Mataro Gas if he saw Forrester. While he didn't, the attendant leads the police to a puddle of water where the car was supposedly washed. He also gives them a shirt that was probably used to clean the car, which turns out to have Rebecca's blood on it. The LAPD arrests Robert Forrester and the Congressman gives a press conference saying he hopes this puts a stop to the speculation surrounding his family. DDA Morales still wants to press charges against Congressman Nelson, so he tries to "flip" Forrester to no avail. The LAPD then discovers something new: Forrester's alibi is not as airtight as they thought, because his computer was accessed remotely to make it look like he was in the hotel room all night. DDA Morales decides to charge Nelson as a co-conspirator to see if either he or Forrester will tell the truth. After a judge rules there is sufficient evidence to take the case to trial, Congressman Nelson agrees to talk to the prosecutors.

26. DDA Dekker goes to federal court to challenge the U.S. Military's jurisdiction over the defendants. When Dekker says their actions are unprecedented, which example of an American citizen charged with treason does the military's lawyer provide?

From Quiz 1.4 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Sylmar"

Answer: Adam Gadahn

The defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit murder with a weapon of mass destruction. Their bail hearing is interrupted by an assistant U.S. attorney and an army captain who have an executive order from the Department of Defense. The officials have an order signed by a federal judge which forces the L.A. court to surrender the defendants. DDA Dekker is upset about this because all four criminals will now be tried in a military court for their terroristic plans, but will not face any consequences for the murder of the Miller children. Dekker wants at least a statement from Amy, but he is told that is not possible because anything military detainees say is classified. Dekker notes that the defendants would only face justice if convicted, which is not that common (Dekker mentions that only 4 out of 20 terrorists had been convicted by military tribunals in 10 years). In federal court, Dekker argues that the defendants are American citizens who violated California laws, and should therefore be tried by a jury in Los Angeles. The military lawyer or JAG (Judge Advocate General) tells the judge that the charges of treason are not unprecedented, citing the example of Adam Gadahn, an American citizen from Oregon who joined the terrorist group Al-Qaeda and was indicted for treason in 2006. He became the first person to be charged with treason against the U.S. in over 50 years. Gadahn, who acted as an advisor to Osama bin Laden, was known for releasing provocative videos ripping his U.S. passport. He was killed in 2015 by U.S. airstrikes in Pakistan.

27. How did the cops at the LAPD's Rampart division nickname the janitor?

From Quiz 1.7 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Ballona Creek"

Answer: Bunny man

The detectives find out that Brandon Duffy was adopted, so his adoptive parents are ruled out as suspects. They now focus on Duffy's biological relatives, one of whom is his father (an unidentified rapist). Winters and Jaruszalski discover that Luis Cordero, who is genetically related to Duffy, lived in the same area where the murders were committed, and worked as a janitor in the LAPD's Rampart Division. Officers Martel and Greeley remember that they used to call that janitor "bunny man" after a punk band called Echo and the Bunnymen, because the janitor had a tic that made him repeat back the last words he heard.

28. Who helped Valerie get rid of Freddy's body on the night of his death?

From Quiz 1.6 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Hondo Field"

Answer: Her boyfriend

After searching Valerie's apartment, the police find out that Freddy was on a boat that belonged to Valerie's boyfriend, Zack. The detectives interview him and he confesses that Valerie told him Freddy had died after a fall and she needed help getting rid of the body. Attorney Goodwin thinks the testimony is inadmissible as well because the prosecution needed the blood evidence to connect the findings and charge him as an accomplice. DDA Dekker argues that Zack never admitted to being an accomplice, so the law on accomplice testimony doesn't apply. Zack's testimony can be admitted because he is not being charged with anything, as opposed to being charged as an accomplice. Immediately, Goodwin says that she plans to assert an affirmative defense of self-defense because her client had been sexually harassed and raped on the oil rig before.

29. Toward the end of the episode, the story takes another dramatic turn as we learn the real identity of the mastermind behind the attack on Rebecca. Who planned the hit and run on Rebecca so that her baby would die?

From Quiz 1.5 "Law & Order: Los Angeles" - "Pasadena"

Answer: Patricia Nelson, the Congressman's wife

Congressman Nelson insists that he would never hurt Rebecca and had nothing to do with the baby's death. This story is confirmed because he was planning to set up a trust for Rebecca and the baby. The trust would've needed Nelson's wife's permission unless she was dead. Since Patricia suffered from ovarian cancer, Morales and Price believe that the Congressman expected his wife to be dead by the time he and Rebecca had the baby. While Morales and Price talk to Patricia, the police go to a home in Palm Springs belonging to Patricia's aunt and uncle. They thought they would find a car matching the description of the one used to run over Rebecca, but the garage turns out to be empty. Patricia confesses, saying she was very distraught when she found out her husband was not only having an affair but a child with Rebecca. She then told Forrester that she would get him fired if he didn't help her, and persuaded him by letting him know Rebecca was having a child with the Congressman. Forrester committed the act while Patricia made sure to forge his alibi. Patricia doesn't understand why the car wasn't in the garage because she had instructed Forrester to put it there. It looks like the Congressman took care of the car as he knew about what Patricia had done and was trying to protect her. Both Patricia's attorneys and the prosecutors ask the judge that Patricia serve her sentence on probation because she only has a few months to live. The judge decides to convict her of solicitation to commit murder and sentences her to a year in jail, despite Morales's objections.
