Survivor: Winners at War Trivia Questions

1. This season, the two initial tribes were divided by which means?

From Quiz
Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Pre-selection

Twenty past winners of "Survivor", claiming the title of Sole Survivor and the million dollar prize, arrived on the beach at the start of this landmark season and toasted the game with a glass of champagne before digging right into matters. Although they arrived divided by gender, they were given buffs and divided onto two evenly-split teams (five men and five women). Additionally, they were informed that Edge of Extinction would be in play this season, giving everyone a shot at returning to the game if they could persevere. Finally, they were made aware of the one big plus-- the winner of "Winners at War" would take home $2,000,000 USD instead of the typical one million dollar prize. With that, the tribes jumped into their first challenge for flint, rice, and Immunity. No time to waste.

2. In the sixth episode entitled "Quick on the Draw", Tyson, on the Edge, found and sold the idol nullifier to Parvati from the Sele tribe, for a fire token. What did Tyson buy using the fire token that he earned?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: A jar of peanut butter

For the players who were playing on the Edge of Extinction, they could use the fire tokens to buy either food or advantage during future challenges. Tyson felt that he needed the much-needed energy for future challenges, so he bought himself a jar of peanut butter.

3. Introduced to this season was which unique currency, used to buy advantages throughout the game?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Fire Tokens & Fire Token

Each castaway was given one Fire Token at the start of the game, and this unique currency shifted around throughout the season. Every time a castaway was eliminated, they had to bequeath their Fire Tokens to another player still in the running. Fortunately, players could collect Fire Tokens both on and off the Edge of Extinction, using them to purchase luxuries and advantages at their discretion. This could be especially effective on the Edge of Extinction, since these advantages could lead them to reenter the game. As such, many Edge players used collected advantages to their benefit, selling them off to still-active players in an effort to get a leg up. These could be spent until the end of Day 34.

4. In "Quick on the Draw", Denise made a big move by orchestrating an epic blindside against Sandra. A stunned Sandra was left speechless when she realized that she had been voted out of the game. How was the blindside so exceptional?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: Denise played the immunity idol that she bought from Sandra.

Prior to the Tribal Council, Sandra realized that fire tokens might play a very important role in the game. Realizing that she had none, she came up with a plan to sell her immunity idol to Denise for two fire tokens, to which Denise agreed. However, Denise would pay Sandra one fire token before the Tribal Council, and she would only give Sandra the second fire token after the Tribal Council. At Tribal Council, Denise played the immunity idol. She received four votes from Jeremy, Kim, Sandra, and Tony. However, these four votes were not counted. In the end, Sandra, who received the sole vote from Denise, was voted out of the game. Sandra bequeathed her fire token to Yul.

5. On Day 12, the players were shuffled into new tribes. What was the name of the new tribe, donning green buffs, to emerge from this?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Sele

All fifteen remaining players (not sent to Edge thus far) were brought back to the starting island and told to drop their buffs. Once Jeff allowed the players to pick new buffs at random, he let them know that they would be dividing out onto three new tribes of five, truly mixing them up into uneven groupings. But what unfolded was unexpected across the board. After Yara eliminated Boston Rob, destroying a Sele majority, the next challenge resulted in both the new Dakal and Sele heading to separate Tribal Councils. Parvati was sent out at the first, removing her purchased Idol Nullifier from the game, and Sandra was sent packing soon after in a surprise Idol blindside put forth by Denise.

6. Who was the only player to raise their flag on the Edge of Extinction?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Sandra

After an immediate betrayal at Tribal Council, Sandra met up with the other eliminated castaways at the Edge of Extinction and expressed her disinterest in continuing in the game, knowing that any attempt at regaining entry to the competition via a demanding challenge would not be a possibility for her. As such, she became the first and only person in the season to pull the white flag, asking for her removal from the Edge and her abandonment of the jury. At the time, Sandra had 116 days 'on the island' playing the game of "Survivor".

7. In "We're in the Majors", Yul's plan backfired when he tried to coax Wendell into giving away his fire tokens. Upon his elimination at Tribal Council, who received Yul's fire tokens?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: Sarah and Sophie

Nick knew about Yul's plan and it was at this point that he realized that Yul was a very strategic and dangerous player. At Tribal Council, Yul received three votes from Michele, Nick, and Wendell. Yul voted for Wendell. Leaving the game, Yul bequeathed his two fire tokens to Sarah and Sophie.

8. On Day 19, who became the first castaway to return from the Edge of Extinction?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Tyson

On Day 19, the eight castaways still waiting at the Edge of Extinction headed to the challenge beach and competed for the chance to reenter the game, joining the newly-merged tribe for the next stage of the game. Five castaways purchased advantages using their Fire Tokens, but in the end, Tyson managed to keep at the front of the group, winning out over Rob to return to the game. Tyson was eliminated from the game on Day 11 (being the fifth to be sent to the Edge). He would be eliminated again on Day 25.

9. In the thirteenth episode entitled "The Penultimate Step of the War", Nick won the first immunity challenge, forcing Tony to change his initial plan. What advantage did Michele play at Tribal Council?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 3

Answer: 50/50 coin-flip

Michele played her 50/50 coin-flip advantage. The coin landed on the "safety" face, meaning that any votes cast against her would not count. After the votes were read, Jeremy received three votes and he was sent to the Edge of Extinction.

10. In the eighth episode entitled "This is Where the Battle Begins", a challenge was held, where it was participated by players on the Edge of Extinction. Who was the winner of the challenge who made it back into the game?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: Tyson

The challenge was a close match between Tyson and Rob. In the end, it was Tyson who won the challenge and he made it back into the game, joining the newly formed Koru tribe.

11. In the third episode entitled "Out for Blood", Natalie, on the Edge of Extinction, sold a "vote steal advantage" to Sarah from the Dakal tribe. However, Sarah needed to locate the advantage herself. Where was the "vote steal advantage" hidden?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 1

Answer: Sele's torches

The "vote steal advantage" was hidden in Sele's torches. Sarah enlisted the help of Tony in her mission to locate the hidden "vote steal advantage" at Sele's campsite. Both Sarah and Tony were police officers.

12. Day 19 saw the merge take place, uniting twelve players under one flag. The new tribe's name was Koru. What colour did they wear?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Black

Once Tyson won the Edge of Extinction return challenge on Day 19, he joined together with the other eleven castaways, merging on Sele Beach with black buffs. As soon as this occurred, the competitors scrambled, reestablishing alliances to ensure that they could survive and outlast with some of the most notable game players in the show's history. Due in part to the paranoia experienced around camp, many of the earliest votes were executed with sizeable majorities-- Wendell and Adam, the earliest of these, emerged as a result of players avoiding stepping out of line.

13. In "This is Where the Battle Begins", two immunity necklaces were given to two players who could hold onto their poles the longest. Who were the winners of the individual immunity challenge?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: Jeremy and Denise

The host Jeff announced that there would be two individual immunity necklaces up for grab for the immunity challenge. They would be rewarded to the last man and last woman left standing in the game. Jeremy and Denise emerged victorious and won the immunity necklaces.

14. On Day 24, the castaways had a visit from their loved ones. Unlike in previous seasons, what happened?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: No challenge was held

Ten castaways showed up to the challenge beach on Day 24 and discovered that they had been set up for an early visit from their loved ones, and this season things were done a bit differently. Not only did the contestants receive visits from groups of family members (in some cases, spouses, all of their children, etc.), but there was no challenge to accompany the arrivals. Instead, all of the castaways went back to their beach to spend the day with their guests. In addition, and to the shock of the eliminated players, everyone on the Edge of Extinction also received their visits, with all of their loved ones coming in by boat to spend the day.

15. In the ninth episode entitled "War is Not Pretty", Kim, Ben, Michele, Sarah, and Sophie won the reward challenge. They got to enjoy a sumptuous meal of Chinese takeout. Why did Sarah give up her reward to Nick?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: It was Nick's birthday.

Sarah felt like it was a nice gesture to let Nick enjoy the meal on his birthday. However, her move shocked Jeff and the other players.

16. During the back half of the season, twelve different players were part of the merged tribe. How many of those players competed during the first twenty seasons of "Survivor" ("Heroes vs. Villains" or earlier)?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: One & 1

In a surprise to most players, and as it was discussed during the season, there was a clear concern wherein 'old school' and 'new school players seemed to split at a clear divide, notably because old school players from the first twenty seasons were seen as strong threats due to their reputations though their capabilities with new school rules and strategies could be lacking. What resulted was a pre-merge boot order featuring nine players, only one of which debuted after "Heroes vs. Villains" (Natalie). When the merge finally occurred on Day 19, only Tyson, who returned from the first Edge of Extinction Challenge, had played in any of those earlier seasons, and even then, he didn't win until "Blood vs. Water".

17. Who was the final tribe member to return from the Edge of Extinction?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Natalie

Mirroring her sister's game in "San Juan Del Sur", Natalie was eliminated first of the lot, heading to the Edge of Extinction on Day 2 and playing on the fringe of the game. Though she had a chance to rejoin at the merge, she instead saw her reentry towards the very end of the game, winning the final Edge of Extinction Challenge on Day 35, leaving the jury, and playing as part of the final six. With a run not unlike Chris Underwood's in the "Edge of Extinction" season, it would propel her to the final Tribal Council, allowing her to break a record, spending the longest time on the Edge of any player in "Survivor" history.

18. In the season finale episode entitled "It All Boils Down to This", Denise was voted out of the game after a very intense Tribal Council that featured three players playing their immunity idols. Who did NOT play an idol at Tribal Council?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 3

Answer: Sarah

Natalie was the first player who informed Jeff that she would like to play her immunity idol. This forced Tony and Ben to play theirs, too. Natalie and Ben received four and two votes in the first round of voting, but all these votes did not count. In the second round of voting, Denise received four votes and she was eliminated from the game.

19. In the tenth episode entitled "The Full Circle", the castaways were surprised by visits from their loved ones. Who got to spend quality time with their loved ones?

From Quiz "Survivor: Winners at War" Part 2

Answer: The players at camp, as well as the players on the Edge

The first half of the episode featured visits from the players' loved ones, both at camp, as well as on the Edge. On the Edge, Natalie noticed that there was a boat approaching their island. Rob and Nathan said that it won't be anything good, but much to their surprise and delight, they also received visits from their loved ones.

20. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Winners at War"?

From Quiz Survivor: Winners at War

Answer: Tony & Tony Vlachos & Vlachos

After thirty-nine days, the Final Tribal Council resulted in a single winner of the season when sixteen jury members cast their votes for either Tony, Natalie, or Michelle. Despite Natalie making a strong return from the Edge of Extinction (a la Chris Underwood) and holding onto her resilience in front of a jury she lived through Edge alongside, Tony's unmatched strategic game, coupled with his challenge dominance post-merge, allowed him to take the majority of the votes, becoming the second two-time winner of "Survivor" and the recipient of a two million dollar prize, a feat he managed without receiving a single vote during any prior Tribal Council despite being a known threat. Tony received twelve of the sixteen votes with Natalie receiving four and Michelle receiving none.
