Biggest Loser Trivia Questions

1. On the first day of the competition, the contestants moved into an isolated ranch in which state?

From Quiz
"The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: California

On Day 1, twelve overweight Americans arrived at a ranch in sunny Southern California, eager to shed pounds and win money. Upon their arrival they were greeted with their favourite foods, most of which were fatty and unhealthy. Some opted to take a taste while others set their sights on the prize: $250,000 and a chance at a new life in better health. Contestants' weights ranged from 167 to 436; regardless of their weights, they would all be in for a tough battle against obesity. A tour of the ranch revealed a large, luxurious dormitory and a 24-hour gym as well as rolling hills and green pastures.

2. Who was the trainer for the Red Team this season?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: Jillian Michaels

Jillian Michaels was the trainer for the Red Team which consisted of Dave, Kelly Min., Lisa, Lizzeth, Matt, and Ryan while Bob Harper was the Blue Team trainer with Aaron, Andrea, Dana, Gary, Kelly Mac, and Maurice under his wing. The trainers accompanied their contestants through the first two months of the competition at which point the final three would return home to continue their weight loss goals for a chance to win $250,000. Both teams embarked on separate diets and weight loss plans. The trainers had no say in which contestants were sent home.

3. Which American celebrity chef made two appearances on this season of "The Biggest Loser", first to issue a cooking challenge, and then to show the contestants how to make healthier versions of their favourite foods?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 5

Answer: Rocco DiSpirito

During the sixth week, American celebrity chef, Rocco DiSpirito, challenged the contestants to create a calorie controlled three course meal. Though he was impressed by the efforts of both the black and blue teams, it was the black team that was victorious, winning a meal cooked by Rocco, as well as video messages from their loved ones. His second visit came much later on in the season, during the fifteenth week, when he showed the final four how to make much healthier versions of their favourite foods. Incredibly, each new dish had at least 600 calories less than their original versions.

4. As always, many of the rewards earned by the contestants were in actual fact, double-edged swords. This was particularly evident when the blue team won a trip to which American city, which is often referred to as Sin City?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 5

Answer: Las Vegas

During the ninth week of this season, as a direct result of Jay winning the title of biggest loser of the week, much to Bob's dismay, the entire blue team went off to Las Vegas. Despite warnings from their trainer, Roger and Dan didn't make it back to their hotel rooms until 6am the next morning, infuriating Mark, who was doing all he could to set the team up for a good weight loss. In the end it was indeed the blue team who lost the weigh-in, and they were forced to send Mark, one of the game's biggest competitors, home.

5. Who was the only female Biggest Loser during the time at the ranch?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: Andrea

Every week, the 'Biggest Loser' would be the person who either lost the most weight or had the highest body fat percentage (depending on whether there were teams or not). Over the course of the show, men were the predominant occupiers of the role. On one occasion in week five, however, Andrea ended up losing a total of seven pounds (one more than Dave) to become that week's Biggest Loser; the remaining titles were claimed by men as the show continued. Half of the weeks featured a Biggest Loser with double-digit weight losses and none were eliminated in the same week that they received the title.

6. Which previously eliminated female contestant earned her way back into the game, by losing 28.63% of her body weight?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 5

Answer: Ali

Week eleven threw a spanner in the works as just as the remaining contestants began to look towards the finale, it was revealed that the fourteen eliminated contestants were being given a chance to get back in the game. Having been called back into the weigh-in room by host Alison Sweeney, the six remaining contestants were forced to confront not only the eliminated players, but also the fact that one woman and one man would be returning to campus. Representing the pink team, who left after only four weeks, Ali Vincent beat all of the other eliminated women, by losing a staggering 67lbs to earn a slot back on campus. Meanwhile the male winner was Mark Kruger, who represented the black team, and re-joined his brother Jay on campus by losing a total of 90lbs.

7. Over the course of their time at the ranch, who had the biggest weight loss in any single week?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: Matt

In the very first week of the show, the contestants were shocked to see drastic weight loss across the board. Matt, the Biggest Loser in that week, ended up dropping twenty-two pounds alone, almost half the amount of weight he lost at the ranch. These significant drops can be attributes to the body recalibrating itself; aside from the shock to the system (in the form of a new diet and exercise), it was also likely water-weight. The following week, weight loss didn't come as easy-- the biggest drop was seven pounds (by Aaron). In week two, Matt gained three pounds; he was the only contestant during this season to regain weight between weigh-ins. Matt also had the most increase in the next week.

8. Which Southern Hemisphere country did the final five jet off to, where they competed in a grueling triathlon?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 5

Answer: Australia

During the fourteenth week of season 5 of "The Biggest Loser", the contestants spent the week in Australia. Together with their trainers, Bob and Jillian, the final five got to experience all that Australia had to offer, sampling local cuisine and going dancing. They even got the opportunity to speak to the winner of season 2 of Australia's "Biggest Loser", Adro Sarnelli.

9. In the reunion show, which previously-eliminated contestant lost the greatest percent of body fat?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: Dave

After the show's finale, the nine eliminated contestants were asked to return for a chance to win $100,000 as the 'Biggest Loser' amongst them. Whoever lost the greatest amount of body fat would win regardless of how much time they spent at the ranch or pursuing their own healthy lifestyles at home. Drops were seen across the board; Dave, the third eliminated Red Team member (in Week 5) returned to the show having lost 25% of his body fat, the most of anyone on the show. Body fat percentages were calculated using dunk tests and measurements recorded at the start of the season and at the very end of the show.

10. Which contestant won this season of "The Biggest Loser", making history in the process by becoming the first female to win the US' version of the show?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 5

Answer: Ali

It was former pink team member, Ali Vincent, (who began her weight loss journey with her mother, Bette-Sue), who won season 5 of "The Biggest Loser", making her the first woman to ever do so on the US version of the show. Squaring up to fellow female, Kelly, and weight-loss machine, Roger, in the final, Ali won with a total weight loss of 112lbs. As a result she won the grand prize of $250,000. However the distinction of being the first-ever female winner of a series of "The Biggest Loser" actually belongs to Jodie Prenger, who won series 2 of the UK's "Biggest Loser" in 2006.

11. Which contestant was 'The Biggest Loser' of season one?

From Quiz "The Biggest Loser" (US) - Season 1

Answer: Ryan

When the final three returned to the scale in the final live episode of the season, they were weighed in one final time. The percentage of weight lost was added to the percentage of body fat lost to create their final score. Kelly Min. came in third place losing 79 pounds and 32.6% body fat for a total of 50% overall. Gary came in second losing 71 pounds and 23% body fat for a total of 53%. Finally, Ryan came in first place with a total of 54%. He lost 122 pounds off his original weight of 330; he also lost 18% of his body fat. He became the Biggest Loser and left with $250,000 in cash.
