Super Smash Bros. (3DS/Wii U) Trivia Questions

1. This character can dominate Home-Run Derby mode with his Sparta Kick and Reverse Warlock Punch. Who is he?

From Quiz
Name That Character!

Answer: Ganondorf

Ganondorf has these special moves, and the record for Home-Run Derby mode was set by a player using him. Another powerful move is his Flame Choke, which is a custom special that can deal damage repeatedly to enemies. Robin can use magic, but he does not have these specials. He is a newcomer to the game, and his Home-Run Derby mode is okay, but not as good as Ganondorf's. Roy is DLC and does not have these special moves. Sophocles is an ancient Greek philosopher that does not appear in any "Super Smash Bros." video game.

2. The announcer of this game is voiced by the same person who did Master Hand. Which person is it?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Xander Mobus

You can't have "Super Smash Bros." without the announcer. Mobus is always here in every match including when to begin fighting, announcing the winner, and many more. Sakurai is the director of this amazing title.

3. What happens when Mr Game and Watch's side B records a 7?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: It deals moderate damage and supplies the stage with an apple, that heals whoever eats it

Mr Game and Watch's Side B is the ultimate risk/reward tool; the 9 of judgment is the ultimate killer, killing virtually the entire cast at as low as 25% damage from anywhere on the stage. A 1 of judgment, however, can put him into a very tight spot, as a 1 does essentially nothing to the target, and can get him punished quite hard. Recording an 8 is a decent consolation prize, as this freezes the target in a block of ice, and allows Mr Game and Watch to easily follow up with almost any attack he would like. He can even go for a 2nd Side B, fishing for a 9. Recording a 7 can be beneficial as well, sending the target flying and granting Mr Game and Watch easy access to minor recovery in an apple. Pick it up fast though, because your opponent can also get to it if you don't!

4. This character can catch projectiles with his Pocket move and grow trees with his Timber move. He even has a rocket made out of a character from his own game! Who is he?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: Villager

Villager has a huge pocket, as he comes from the game series "Animal Crossing". In that game, you have to pick up and store many items in your pockets. In "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U", Pocket collects a projectile which can then be thrown back at an enemy. vyaur does not make an appearance in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U". Link's shield can absorb projectiles, but that is an ability, not a special move. Olimar has a rocket - but none of the other moves listed.

5. The Mii Fighter has three different fighting styles. What are they?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Brawler, Gunner, Swordfighter

Brawlers are good at hand-to-hand combat, Gunners are good at shooting from a distance, and Swordfighters are good at using a sword. Each one has a different way to fight, so use it wisely.

6. This character can inhale enemies, has a Jet Hammer, and can hit projectiles with another hammer. Who is he?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: King Dedede

King Dedede and Kirby have similar special moves. They both have an inhale, and they both have a hammer. Kirby's is regular, while Dedede's is jet-powered. Dedede can also hit spiked projectiles using his side special. Kirby cannot. Wreck-It Ralph and Fix-It Felix are character in a Disney movie and do not show up in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U".

7. How many rounds are there in a Target Blast game?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Two

Target Blast is a new stadium game introduced in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS / for Wii U". It combines the elements of Target Smash and the Home-Run Contest. The object of the game is to send the bomb flying to a field full of targets and blocks, scoring points as you go.

8. What is the primary difference between Cloud's Limit and Little Mac's KO Punch?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Cloud can charge Limit, while Little Mac cannot charge KO Punch

Cloud is much more threatening than Little Mac because of this difference. Cloud can use Limit Charge to force characters to approach, which naturally gives him a much better matchup against the likes of Rosalina and Luma, Villager, and other defensive characters that Little Mac struggles with. It is also this versatility that makes Cloud amongst the game's best characters.

9. This character can control water! It can make water shurikens, use Aqua Pump to gain elevation, or create little fountains of water as a taunt. Who is this character?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: Greninja

Greninja has these moves, as well as Shadow Sneak, which lets it teleport and strike, and Substitute, a counter. Neither Blastoise nor Samurott appear in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U". Oshwatt makes an appearance, ut a support Pokemon. He uses surf and jumps off-screen. What a genius.

10. This character has mysterious powers - and mysteriously shouts out "PK" whenever he uses them. His moves include PK Fire, PK Spark, and PK Thunder. Who is he?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: Ness

Ness has these special moves. PK fire can be used repeatedly to rack up quite a bit of damage on a foe. PK Spark has ridiculous launching power, and if you hit yourself with PK Thunder you will be propelled high and far. Lucas has similar moves, but no PK Spark. He has PK Freeze instead. Inkling Squid is a character in "Splatoon" and does not appear in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U". Fox does not have any of these special moves, but he does have Fire Fox, which is similar to PK fire, but Fox moves with the fire.

11. What is the maximum number of players that can be battled in both versions?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Eight

There is a new option in the Smash menu called 8-Player Smash. That means you can battle on bigger stages with custom rules. Try it out and see it for yourself.

12. Which enemy causes a big shock wave when it jumps and hits the ground?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: Polar Bear

The Polar Bear is a very powerful enemy that has Super Armor almost all of the time! Its main attack is jumping and slamming down onto the ground hard to create a shock wave. The shock wave itself has incredible launching power. Goomba is an enemy, but it does not generate shock waves. Wario is a fighter and can't generate shock waves. The POW Block generates shock waves, but it is an item, not an enemy.

13. Although this character's neutral game is not necessarily the best, this character surprisingly possesses the title of 8th fastest character in the game. Who is this?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Charizard

Charizard unfortunately holds plenty of flaws, but you can't claim foot speed as one of those, as this fire breathing dragon is deceptively fast. Unfortunately, Charizard shares a lot of the problems it's fellow heavies share, in that it's hurtbox is massive, it can't really land and gets juggled a lot, its air speed is surprisingly bad (for something with wings), and it has the unfortunate distinction of getting mostly shut down by a lot of historically prevalent characters in the game, such as Diddy Kong, Bayonetta, and Zero Suit Samus.

14. Which character is a Chef, Parachute Jumper, and Judge?

From Quiz Name That Character!

Answer: Mr. Game and Watch

Mr. Game and Watch has all of these special moves - Chef, Parachute Jump, and Judge. Chef summons small, weak projectiles, Parachute Jump vaults him high up into the air, and Judge has a random effect. Phoenix Wright does not appear in "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U". Falco does not have these special moves. On a completely unrelated note, he says in his taunt, "Show me your moves!" Dr. Mario does not have these moves.

15. What is the highest intensity level a player can try in Classic Mode?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Nothing Harder

Classic is a mode that appears in "Super Smash Bros." Each round has a fight against other characters and a final fight with Master Hand. Depending on the intensity level, the player can also challenge Crazy Hand and possibly the Master Core. The level is determined by the amount of gold a player can use before starting. Classic is playable for up to two players.

16. If the match comes to an end, then which word will the announcer say?

From Quiz Settle it in "Smash"

Answer: Game!

This only happens in survival battles. Remember to hear it during gameplay to make it official. "Go!" signifies the start of the match.

17. Buffering is an important skill to learn in "Super Smash Bros 4". How does one "buffer" an aerial?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Making the input before the action occurs

An important example of a character that relies on buffering their aerials is Bowser. At early %, if you properly buffer your nair out of an up throw, you can rack up as much as 35% damage off a single throw, depending on the character!

18. Why is it unwise to spam (continuously use over and over again) counter on a character such as Marth or Ike?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: The move will stale and your opponent will eventually be able to better predict your usage of it, removing the reward factor from the move almost completely

"Super Smash Bros 4"'s staling mechanics have it where the repeated use of a move over and over again weakens the move for a short period of time. This was implemented to discourage spamming. Against an opponent with any idea of what they're doing, your attempts of counter spam will likely be met by either getting punished after your invincibility ends, your opponent refusing to fall for it and watching you needlessly stale your move, or simply by them running up and grabbing you. Even if your opponent isn't particularly skillful, there are going to be a lot of instances in a given game where another option will be more helpful than countering. Countering is meant to be used as a mixup, to catch your opponent by surprise. You can preserve this surprise by utilizing other options until you absolutely need or have picked up a big read to counter.

19. The first super major in "Super Smash Bros 4" history was Civil War. Dabuz came away with the gold, defeating T easily. Which character did Dabuz use to achieve victory here?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Rosalina and Luma

Dabuz's confidence in his amazing Rosalina and Luma propelled him to victory, as he thoroughly dominated T. Not to discredit T, however, as a Link main making it that far in such a major tournament is definitely an accomplishment!

20. What major mechanic that was a huge factor in "Super Smash Bros Brawl" was removed in "Super Smash Bros 4"?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Priority

Ledge hogging was a mechanic removed from "Super Smash Bros Melee", replaced by ledge trumping in "Super Smash Bros Brawl", and retained in today's "Super Smash Bros 4". Teching has always, and will seemingly always be a thing, as it favors no character in particular and adds a creative landing option to every character in the game that invokes mind games at times. Meta Knight in "Super Smash Bros Brawl" was by far the best character in the game, and a large part of why was the transcending priority on the Mach Tornado. To prevent this from getting out of control in "Super Smash Bros 4", priority was heavily nerfed, and outright removed on most characters in the cast.

21. How many Pokémon are in "Super Smash Bros 4" as playable characters?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros 4" - Nerds Only

Answer: Six

Mewtwo, Greninja, Charizard, Jigglypuff, Lucario, and of course, Pikachu have all made their marks in this game, with Mewtwo being added to the game as a part of the first DLC pack in franchise history. Nintendo has stated that they do not want to add anymore Pokémon to "Super Smash Bros. 4", as six Pokémon are the maximum amount of Pokémon allowed in a trainer's party in the mainstream games, and this game is meant to reflect that.
