1. How many playable characters are there in the original game?

Answer: Twelve

They are Yoshi, Mario, Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, Ness, Kirby, Luigi, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, and Fox. They have been fighting since the beginning.

Ness can use PK Crush, PK Thunder, PK Fire, and the PSI Magnet. His Final Smash is PK Starstorm. Ness made his debut in 1994 in "Earthbound".

You use the D-Pad to do these taunts (in "Melee" you press up on the d-pad to taunt). Some of those taunts, like Marth's up-taunt, which is also his down-taunt (in "Brawl"), are still in the game.

Ness, from the popular SNES game "Earthbound" was one of the four hidden characters in the game "Super Smash Bros.", but unlike Jigglypuff and Luigi, he became playable in "Super Smash Bros. Melee". This character uses his powerful PSI moves (like PK Fire and PK Thunder) to inflict damage on opponents with the B-button, and he has the ability to heal himself with down-B when others use projectiles or certain powers against him (eg. Pikachu's Thunder attack or Fox's gun).

There are only four unlockable characters in the original "Super Smash Bros.", but there is more than triple the amount of unlockable characters in the sequel. To get Jigglypuff in both games, you simply need to beat the one player mode without losing all of your lives. None of the unlockable characters in "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (excluding Jigglypuff and Luigi) were in the previous game. Although Jigglypuff is often referred to as a weak character (which is further proven by the fact that she's so easy to unlock), some of her moves, like Rest, are best used in event matches; especially the final event.

There is little in the manner of explanation as to why this happens, but the ability to do this is exclusive to King Dedede (Kirby can't do this with his own Inhale, nor can anyone else with a command grab do this). This was an extremely interesting thing to discover. For a long time now, Dedede has been thought to be amongst the worst choices for a Doubles character. However, through this discovery, Dedede's prospects seem to certainly be on the rise, especially given that Cloud is universally accepted to be one of the best character to use in doubles.

Luigi can do the Luigi Cyclone, Super Jump Punch, Green Missile, Fireball, and even has a taunt that (while it only does 2% damage) is an amazing attack. Since Luigi is always number two to Mario he takes twenty-two matches to unlock, is twenty-second in sound test, and his crowd chant only consists of two people!

Crazy Hand is an odd character. Although you normally just fight Master Hand during Classic 1-P Mode of "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (or 1-P Mode of "Super Smash Bros."), Crazy Hand may also make an appearance if you are at a high enough difficulty. Crazy Hand has a few different moves, but a few can also be used in conjunction with Master Hand. Both of these appendages appeared in the Game Boy Advance game "Kirby and the Amazing Mirror" as bosses. Both characters can also be played against in the penultimate Event Match of "Super Smash Bros. Melee".

Cloud was borderline oppressive in Shine and was a very common sight indeed. The next most common characters in order were Bayonetta, Sheik, Lucina, and Mario. The most notable users of Cloud would be Tweek, who made it all the way to Singles Grand Finals, Komorikiri, and MK Leo, who won Doubles altogether. It's not hard to see why either, as Cloud is widely regarded as one of the easiest characters to use effectively at a professional level.

Either way, Mr. Game and Watch is probably going to be the last character you obtain in "Super Smash Bros. Melee". Either you can go through an endless thousand vs. matches, or you can get all twenty-four characters before him and beat the break the targets games with a combined total of 12 minutes. Mr. Game and Watch is from the handheld Game and Watch system, and you can unlock both a Game and Watch level and the character himself.

All matches in the "Super Smash Bros." series have a time limit and the winner is the fighter that scores the most points once time is up. If there's a tie, then it will go to Sudden Death.

ZeRo would ultimately defeat Tweek 3-1, despite dropping Game 1. It was a truly inspiring run by ZeRo, as he went through the entire tournament without losing a single set. In fact, he was near perfect throughout the tournament, losing only three total games.

It may be confusing, but "Melee" has the Crazy Hand and the Master Hand together in Event 50. You would have to face several challenging events to unlock this. "Brawl" has them separated in Boss Battles, the only mode in which you can fight them both.

Jigglypuff will most likely be the earliest unlockable character you'll acquire in the game since all you need to do is beat a single-player adventure on any difficulty (in both "Super Smash Bros." and "Super Smash Bros. Melee"). Jigglypuff may look weak, but this character will deal some powerful blows if she gets in a few hits. She also has the ability to sing. If Jigglypuff uses her Rest technique efficiently, even the strongest player won't have a chance since it will fling opponents right across the battlefield.

The Young Link character was modeled after the Link that players become in the beginning of "Ocarina of Time" and throughout "Majora's Mask" (both for N64). He features many techniques similar to the regular Link's but there are some subtle differences like the fire arrow. To unlock Young Link as a character, you need to play Classic mode with ten of the original (default) characters of the game. You must include Link and Zelda in this total. Either that, or you can play 500 vs. matches.

PK Starstorm is an attack that does what the name implies. Stars fall from the sky and if they hit, they are devastating! Ness can use PK Starstorm, but he and Lucas use them with subtle differences. Ness' fall at an angle, are spread out, and cause 20% damage. Lucas' are closer together, fall straight down, and cause 14% damage.
