1. The etymology for the word beagle traces its origins back to an Old French word meaning what?

Answer: Noisy person or loudmouth.

A typical beagle is 13-15 inches in height and weighs about 30 pounds (if he/she is not overweight). The word takes its origin from the French word "becguele" which came into use circa 1475. To obtain etymologies for various words, like beagle, the site "http://www.etymonline.com/" is a great resource.

Answer: Lyndon B. Johnson

Another famous beagle owner was Queen Elizabeth I who was so attached to her beagles that one of her portraits include them in it. Additionally, King James I referred to the Queen as his "deare little beagle".

6. Of the following, which best describes the sound a Beagle usually makes when it is trying to receive one's attention?

7. Which of the following is NOT characteristic of a Beagle?

Answer: They are a great pet to have if you live in an apartment.

Beagles need lots of exercise because the breed is prone to obesity which can lead to health problems. Unless you can take your Beagle to a park often, an apartment is not the best place to have a Beagle. Watching a Beagle on the trail of something is quite a sight.

Their nose seems to be scraping the ground. Their coats should be brushed every day to remove loose and dead hairs (word of note - Beagles can shed a lot if they aren't brushed often).
