The hammerkop (Scopiidae) and the shoebill (Balaenicipitidae) are both members of Ciconiiformes, which also contains herons and storks. The emu (Dromiceiidae) is a member of Struthioniformes, and the secretary bird itself is a member of Falconiformes, which contains the hawks and raptors.
5. To which family does the kagu belong?

Answer: Rhynochetidae

All these unusual families belong to Gruiformes, sometimes described as the home for those birds with no other taxonomic home. Answer: Ibis

It belongs to the order Ciconiiformes, family Threskiornithidae, and is related to the well-known spoonbills. The painted snipe, crab plover and pratincole are less well-known members of Chardriiformes; its more commonly known members include sandpipers, gulls and terns.

The hoopoe is found throughout Europe, particularly the Mediterranean, whilst the other three are all South American in origin. The hoatzin is described as an evolutionary throwback due to the claws on its wings.
