Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The bald eagle's voice is a songbird-like chattering.

Answer: True

In movies, people tend to dub in the cry of the red-tailed hawk. It supposedly sounds more powerful and inspiring.
2. What is the term used for when a bird has two toes facing forward and two facing backward?

Answer: Zygodactylous

Gallinaceous is a bird in the galliformes (turkey, chicken, etc), and syndactyly is fused toes (or webbed feet).
3. Which of these parrots is most commonly given up to shelters and foster homes?

Answer: Cockatoo

Cockatoos may be love sponges, but they can become vicious and loud. I didn't care about my cockatoo's noise level, but he became vicious when he matured and inflicted severe bites to most people. Therefore, I gave him away to a nice home.
4. Which of these birds sleeps upside-down in a clump of six to twelve individuals?

Answer: Mousebird

There are a few other birds who sleep like this. Remember, a bat is not a bird.
5. Which of these is not a type of crow?

Answer: Shrike

The shrike comes from the family Laniidae.
6. The harpy eagle likes to eat which of these birds?

Answer: Macaws

This huge eagle likes eating deer, large monkeys, and macaws. Its numbers are dwindling as its rainforest habitat shrinks.
7. Which bird will you find sitting upside down, looking for food, on a tree trunk?

Answer: Nuthatch

They are among the few birds who can do it.
8. Which of these birds throws up pellets of undigested animal parts?

Answer: Eagle

Owls are much more famous for doing so, however.
9. How old can an American crow live to be in captivity?

Answer: 20 years or more

If it was five, all its life would be just taking care of its young as young birds don't leave their parents as early as most. In the wild, the average life span is seven to eight years, but captive birds can live very long lives.
10. What color are a Philippine Monkey-Eating Eagle's eyes?

Answer: Blue

The only eagle to have these.
