2. How long does a chicken egg have to be incubated for before it hatches?

Answer: 21 days

On average, if the temperature is correct a chicken egg will hatch in 21 days.
3. At what temperature in degrees Celsius is the ideal temperature for chicken eggs be incubated at?

Answer: 37.5 Degrees C

The perfect temperature for incubation at the centre of the egg is 37.5 Degrees Celsius.
4. Why should round eggs not be incubated?

Answer: The air sac is likely to be displaced, when the chicken starts to hatch it won't be able to breathe.

As the chicken will start pipping where the air sac should be, it won't be able to breathe as there is no air.
5. What is the normal incubation period for a duck (except Muscovies)?

Answer: 28 Days

28 days. This does not apply to Muscovies, their incubation period is often between 30 and 32 days.
6. What is the correct name for the undeveloped "fertile" part of the egg?

Answer: Germinal Disc

The Germinal Disc is the fertile (ova) part of the egg. When heated to 37.5 degrees it will start to grow. (An Embryo is a Germ Disc that has started to grow after fertilisation)
7. The shell of the egg is made up of what substance?

Answer: Calcium Carbonate

The shell consists mostly of calcium carbonate.(CaCO3)
8. True or False: If an egg has a tiny hairline crack you can still incubate it safely?

Answer: False

False: Bacteria get in the crack and can cause a build up of Hydrogen Sulphide that causes the egg to explode in the incubator spreading diseases and/or infections.
9. What is the most common cause of eggs not hatching?

Answer: Poorly Nutritioned or Old Breeding Birds

Poorly nutritioned and old breeders cause all of the other symptoms.
10. If a chicken hatches out of its egg early (ie before incubation period has finished), which of the following is most likely to have caused it?
