The first sign of spring is normally the rise in temperature due to the improvement in weather conditions. Sunshine's warmth can be felt much more as the days get longer and the heat warms up the cold land, starting off a new life-cycle for plants, trees and animals.

Bambi, Thumper and Flower were all animated characters in the 1942 Walt Disney film, "Bambi". "Drip, drip, drop, Little April showers" were the lyrics to one of the songs in that film.

Puddles accumulate on the ground when rainwater is unable to seep away. They eventually evaporate, but until then, the shallow water holds a fascination for children (and adults!) who like to splash through them wearing their galoshes.

The word umbrella is taken from the Latin word "umbella" which means shaded. They are a lightweight device used to protect people from getting wet in the rain. A rainbow normally occurs just as it stops raining and the sun appears through the clouds. It is an arc of colours which appear when the light of the sun refracts against the last of the rainfall. The spectrum of colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

There are two equinoxes which happen each year in the Northern Hemisphere. The vernal equinox happens around the March 20th and denotes the first day of spring. The autumnal equinox happens around the 22nd September and denotes the first day of autumn.
