Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First word of eight letters: Nationality of Orville and Wilbur Wright.

Answer: American

Wilbur Wright was born on 16th April 1867 in Millville, Indiana, and Orville Wright was born on 19th August 1871 in Dayton, Ohio. The American brothers were inventors and aviators who made the first powered aircraft flight on 17th December 1903 in North Carolina.
2. Subtract a letter and anagram to get a seven-letter word that is an adjective meaning suffering from a shortage of red blood cells or haemoglobin.

Answer: Anaemic

A person who lacks iron in their diet can become anaemic, and is likely to suffer from lack of energy and a pale appearance. The condition can be improved by making dietary changes, and possibly taking iron supplements if required.
3. Subtract a letter and anagram to get a six-letter word that is a place to go to watch movies.

Answer: Cinema

Cinema, as in "Sarah was really excited about the new Brad Pitt movie that had just come out at the cinema, but she didn't want to go on her own, so she asked her best friend Claire to go with her".
4. Subtract a letter and anagram to get a five-letter word that means to cut meat up into very small pieces.

Answer: Mince

One of my favourite meals to cook is Shepherd's Pie. The recipe I use calls for one large onion, three or four medium carrots, tomato puree, stock, butter, milk, a handful of potatos, and 500 grams of lamb mince. Lovely!
5. Subtract a letter to get a four-letter word that is not yours.

Answer: Mine

Mine, as in "Mark had bought himself a chocolate cake, but wasn't in a sharing mood, so when his wife asked if she could have some, he replied 'No way, this cake is all mine'".
6. Subtract a letter and anagram to get a three-letter word that means human adult males.

Answer: Men

As boys go through puberty and turn into men, their voices get deeper, and they start to grow hair under their arms, and on their chests, legs and faces.
7. Add a letter and anagram to get a four-letter word that is what one is called.

Answer: Name

In the UK, if one does not like the name one was given at birth, one can legally change one's name through a deed of change of name, or deed poll as it is commonly known.
8. Add a letter and anagram to get a five-letter word that means to make (minor) changes to something.

Answer: Amend

One of the roles of a Fun Trivia Editor is to advise quiz authors if they need to amend their submitted quizzes in any way. This ensures that Fun Trivia continues to house well-written, good quality quizzes that are free from plagiarism.
9. Add a letter and anagram to get a six-letter word that is a bicycle made for two.

Answer: Tandem

Tandem bicycles date back to the late 1890s. "Tandem" doesn't actually refer to the number of riders (which can actually be more than two), but rather the seating configuration of said riders, which is one behind the other. The term used to describe a bicycle where riders sit side-by-side is "Sociable"!
10. Add a letter and anagram to get a seven-letter word that is a synonym for wild.

Answer: Untamed

Untamed, as in "Grace had overslept, and was in rush to get to work, so hadn't had time to follow her usual morning routine of making herself look presentable, and as she stepped outside, the strong wind blew her untamed hair this way and that".
