Beer is one of the world's oldest prepared beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 9500 B.C. Hops are the female flowers of the hop plant that are used to impart a bitter flavor and protect against bacteria.

Clue 1 lays out the five crafters: Ms. Kaufmann, the Quaff Yours crafter, Maude, Ms. Raskellar, and the Lager Heads crafter.
We determined in question 1 that Ada made Belle Hops, so of those five crafters she could be either Ms. Kaufmann or Ms. Raskellar.
Clue 3 tells us Ms. Kaufmann did not make Belle Hops.
Therefore, Ada is Ms. Raskellar.


In Europe, the original brewers of beer were women, called brewsters. They created a low-alcohol, high-nutrient concoction for their families that tended to be more sanitary than water. Norsemen (Vikings) especially preferred brewsters to make their öl (ale).

A seidel is a vessel for drinking beer, rather like a beer mug. In Germany it originally varied in size from a third to a half a litre, then eventually it grew, especially in Bavaria, to hold a full litre (1.1 quarts).

Oktoberfest features several tents where beer and food are served. The festival is opened at the oldest tent, the Schottenhamel tent, when the mayor of Munich taps a keg of Spaten-Franziskaner beer and exclaims, "O'zapft is!" ("the keg is breached").

Märzenbier (March beer) is a traditional Bavarian lager served during Oktoberfest. Historically, because Bavarian law permitted the brewing of beer only between 29 September and 23 April, Märzenbier was brewed in spring and kept in the cellar to use during the dry period. Any remaining after September 29 was served at Oktoberfest, and so it's also called Festbier or Oktoberfestbier.

The 1516 'Reinheitsgebot' (Beer Purity Law) in Bavaria decreed that only barley, hops, yeast and water can be used to brew beer. It was slowly adopted through all Germany. Centuries later, the European Court of Justice determined in 1987 that the 'Reinheitsgebot' was protectionist and violated the Treaty of Rome, and could not apply to beer imported into Germany. Domestic German beer, however, still follows the Purity Law.
