Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whole Din

Answer: Holden

The Holden car, of which there are various makes, is a vehicle manufactured by G.M. Holden, a company based in Victoria, Australia. This company first began business way back in 1856 in South Australia for the purpose of manufacturing saddles. One could say there's an evolutionary link between horses and horsepower connection galloping along still. Holden cars have a fine performance record and are known for their durability and reliability.
2. Stew Dee Booker

Answer: Studebaker

The Studebaker Corporation was an American vehicle manufacturing firm that was founded in 1852. It travelled right up to 1963, when the company in that nation closed its boot. The car itself continued to be manufactured for a few short years afterwards in Canada, but in 1966, that too ceased production.

The lovely old Studebaker vehicles were originally powered by electric battery, which is interesting when one considers the trend towards this form of propulsion more than one hundred years later. By 1904, however, they had begun the transition to manufacturing petrol driven cars instead. From commencement of business, the company was making an impressive number of horse drawn vehicles as well, but that too ceased in the early years of the 20th century. It all seems rather sad really.
3. Purr Joe

Answer: Peugeot

The Peugeot company was founded in France way back in 1810, when it began manufacturing bicycles and coffee grinders. Their first moving vehicle, a steam powered tricycle, was built in 1889, and one year later saw the production of their first internal combustion vehicle.

The company was still going strong in 2016, having picked up an impressive number of international accolades for its vehicles along the way, both on the road and in assorted motor racing championships. These top of the market vehicles are sleek, beautiful, luxurious and probably out of reach for most families as far as affordability goes, but wouldn't you just love to own one?
4. How Dee

Answer: Audi

Audi is a German manufacturing company of top of the market cars that are luxurious and beautiful in which to ride. This firm was founded way back in 1910 by an engineer named August Horch - and this is where this lovely vehicle gets its name, in a convoluted sort of way.

The word Horch, in German, means "listen" and, when that word is translated into Latin, it becomes "audi". August Horch must have had a classical education, but whether he did or not, this is a classical name for a very classical car.
5. Forks Wig Gone

Answer: Volkswagen

You probably all know the story behind the founding of the German vehicle, Volkswagen, in 1937, by Hitler's National Socialist trade union, the German Labour Front. This had the two fold purpose of not only creating employment, but also to provide a reasonably priced vehicle for the average person in the street.

It worked - and by 2016, the Volkswagen manufacturing group was the largest producer of motor vehicles in the world. These come in a range of options and prices, depending on what is required by the customer.

More than anything else perhaps, is this vehicle's continuing reputation for outstanding reliability.
6. Key Are Sew Rant Toe

Answer: Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is a medium sized SUV manufactured in South Korea by Kia Motors. First appearing in 2002, this vehicle is known for its safety features, its choice of manual or automatic transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes and huge fuel capacity. Each new generation of the Kia Sorento comes with improved features, and in 2011 this dependable and secure vehicle took out the maximum safety ratings in several countries.
7. Hasten Ma Tan

Answer: Aston Martin

Founded in London in 1913 by two businessmen, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, both of whom had previously worked together in the motor industry, Aston Martin vehicles are most known for their luxury sports models and grand tourers vehicles. You may remember super spy, James Bond, driving one of these in the 1964 action film "Goldfinger".

This business has changed hands several times over the years, but the name and the luxury associated with its vehicles remains the same. How wonderful it must feel to zoom along in one of their coupes at top speed on a safe road. Alas though, a sedate little chug along a potholed country road in a terminally ill old Ford is my reality.

It's nice to dream though.
8. Cry Slur

Answer: Chrysler

Chryslers first began appearing in the United States from 1925 onwards. The company that produces these popular cars was founded by Walter Chrysler from all that remained of the earlier Maxwell Motor Company, a business that had operated from 1904, but had to close down in 1925.

These cars surprised people initially by their affordability, something that one didn't normally expect from such a powerful make. The original Chrysler company lasted for almost a century, but in 2014, when Fiat took over its last remaining shares, it merged to become Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Interestingly, the old Maxwell Motor Company was one of the first organisations to specifically target women and, by 1914, had become strongly identified with suffragettes and the women's rights movement of the time.
9. Sur Burr Rue

Answer: Subaru

Subaru began production in Tokyo, Japan in 1953, when it was founded by Kenji Kita and Chikuhei Nakajima, as an offshoot from the earlier Aircraft Research Laboratory founded in 1915. This vehicle comes in various models and is known for its affordability, comfort and easy driving.

The English translation of Subaru, and the symbol associated with same, is that of the star cluster Pleiades. This also goes by the name of "The Seven Sisters". You may notice that Subaru's famous symbol only features six stars.

This is because tradition has it that one of the major stars in the Pleiades cluster is said to be invisible.
10. Me Knee

Answer: Mini

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Not really, of course, but the original little mini car, produced by British Motor Corporation from 1959 until 2000, is certainly not one you'd associate with a luxurious lifestyle. Instead, it was very economical to both purchase and run, fitted four people related to sardines relatively comfortably, and, surprisingly, took out second place on a 1999 list of the top influential and iconic cars of the 20th century.

The model T Ford is in first place. The little mini, once so popular a sight on British streets in particular, also built up a VERY impressive record of a rally vehicle over the years. One day, this compact car will probably take pride of place in any museum devoted to the British lifestyle of the late 20th century. And rightfully so.
