So, first clue: The sun shares its first letter with its position on the body; in other words, it is on the shoulder or spine. First question: Which tattoo is on the shoulder?

Answer: Llama

We know from the Q3 clue that it is not the crescent moon. The Q9 clue tells us that it is not the rainbow. The Q9 clue also tells us that there is no shoulder tattoo amongst the 'herb' girls so, tying in with the Q5 clue, that eliminates the red herring and white rabbit. The sun can be eliminated by deduction through the grid chart, leaving the llama for the shoulder.

2. The sun, being gem-like, can be found on one of the three 'gem' girls. Who has the sun tattoo?

Answer: Ruby

The question tells us that Anise, Rosemary and Sage are excluded. The Q3 clue tells us that Pearl has a moon tattoo, which leaves Ruby and Opal. Opal's elimination can be deduced through the grid chart.

3. Although Pearl is a gem, she has more affinity with the moon than the sun and has a lunar tattoo. This tattoo is not on her spine or shoulder. Who has a tattoo on her ankle?

Answer: Anise

Using the grid chart, you will need to have gone through all the clues first before this one can be solved. By process of elimination, you can work out that the tattooed ankle can only belong to Anise.

4. The white rabbit is not the one in "The Matrix" film and so is not on the shoulder. So "The Matrix" reference is a bit of a red herring, which is also not on the shoulder. Who sports the white rabbit?

Answer: Sage

The Q4 clue doesn't really help much in finding out who has the white rabbit. The whole clue is a bit of a red herring. The answer is to be found in the Q6 clue which tells us that Sage (being a synonym of 'wise') has the white rabbit. In fact probably the most useful information from the Q4 clue has to do with the red herring.

5. Herring and rabbit are foods and herbs go with food. Two of the three 'herb' girls go with the herring and the rabbit. Who has the red herring?

Answer: Anise

The Q5 clue tells us that it is one of the 'herb' girls so that excludes Opal , Pearl and Ruby, the 'gem' girls. The Q9 clue indicates that the other 'herb' girl tattoo is the rainbow. We know from the Q6 clue that the white rabbit is found on Sage. The Q7 clue tells us that Anise does not have the rainbow so she must have the red herring instead.

6. One thing I remember is that all three 'W's go together, however this only works if I use the word 'wise', a synonym for one girl's name, in place of her name. But where is the red herring to be found?

Answer: Ankle

From the reasoning for the answer to Q5, we know that Anise has the red herring tattoo. If you have worked out the answer to Q3 then you will know that the Anise has an ankle tattoo. In other words, you put all the clues on the grid chart and then, by process of elimination, you will find that the tattoo can only be on Anise's ankle.

If you've answered Q5 correctly then the red herring can be eliminated. Failing that the red herring and rainbow can both be eliminated by deduction from the grid chart, leaving the crescent moon.

9. The 'herb' girls don't have tattoos on their shoulders or spines; one of them though sports a rainbow tattoo. Which girl has the rainbow tattoo?

Answer: Rosemary

The Q9 clue tells us that it is one of the 'herb'' girls. The Q5 clue indicates that the other 'herb' girl tattoos are the red herring and the white rabbit. We know from the Q6 clue that the white rabbit can be found on Sage. The Q7 clue tells us that Anise does not have the rainbow so Rosemary must have it.
