Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Has a real-life degree in the same field that the character does

Answer: Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik has a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA. She went on to become an actress who portrays Amy Farrah Fowler, who has a PhD in neurobiology, which is considered the same thing as neuroscience. Amy started off as a recurring part-time character, but thanks to the brilliance of both the character and the actress, she was promoted to full-time. Since 2012 Bialik has been nominated for at least four Emmy Awards for her work on the "Big Bang Theory".
2. Character's voice is not the actor's real voice

Answer: Melissa Rauch

Melissa Rauch's real voice is deeper than her Bernadette voice. She modeled her Bernadette voice after her mom. Rauch also sometimes imitated Howard's mom before her death, using a voice which she says was modeled after her dad. Although Bernadette was born to a Catholic family, Rauch was born to a Jewish family in real life. Like Bernadette, she waited tables to earn extra money while in college.

She has also appeared in "True Blood" and "The Office".
3. Has been nominated for at least 13 Emmy Awards

Answer: Christine Baranski

Christine Baranski won an Emmy in 1995 for "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" for her portrayal of Maryanne Thorpe in the show "Cybill" (1995-98). She has also appeared in "The Real Thing", "Rumors", and "The Good Wife". She plays the role of Beverly Hofstadter, Leonard's mom on "The Big Bang Theory", making her my favorite part-time character on the show.
4. Was raised in Judaism in real life just like the character on the show

Answer: Simon Helberg

Simon Helberg's strength as an actor is his ability to do many different voices. He can do accents such as Indian, and he can imitate celebrities like Steven Hawking and Christopher Walken. He won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2013.

He is also famed for his singing. When asked to sing a song for Bernadette in "Big Bang Theory" (S07E06), he nailed it in just one take!
5. Born in England

Answer: Kunal Nayyar

Kunal Nayyar was born in London and raised in New Delhi. He was raised Hindu just like his character on the show; in fact, in an interview he once commented that he is not very different from his character, Raj, an Indian who hates India. Unlike Raj, who is an astrophysicist, however, he earned a BS in Business from the University of Portland, and an MA in Fine Arts from Temple University.
6. Another member of this person's family plays the same character on a different show

Answer: Laurie Metcalf

Laurie Metcalf plays Sheldon's mom on "The Big Bang Theory". Her daughter, Zoe Perry, whose father was her first husband Jeff Perry, plays Sheldon's mom on the spin-off "Young Sheldon". Metcalf has also appeared in "Getting On", and in 2013 won an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series".

Other TV credits she has include "Desperate Housewives", "Frasier", and, of course, "Roseanne".
7. Was born in Texas

Answer: Jim Parsons

Jim Parsons was born in Houston, while his character, Sheldon Cooper, was born in Galveston. Chuck Lorre, the creator of "The Big Bang Theory", originally wanted Johnny Galecki to be Sheldon Cooper, but when Parsons auditioned, he impressed Lorre so much that Lorre invited him back to see if he could replicate his audition performance. Consequently, Parsons was cast as Sheldon while Galecki was cast as Leonard. Parsons has won at least four Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Sheldon.
8. Died in 2014

Answer: Carol Ann Susi

Carol Ann Susi died in 2014, so her character, Howard's mom, also died in 2014. We never saw her on "The Big Bang Theory". She always shouted from another room when she was heard. After her death, Bernadette gave birth to two babies, who have replaced Howard's mom as the show's unseen characters. Susi has appeared on other shows where she IS seen, such as "Grey's Anatomy", "That 70's Show", and "Seinfeld".
9. Dated his character's wife in real life

Answer: Johnny Galecki

Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco dated in real life, but they didn't get married. Galecki has also dated Sara Gilbert, who plays a character that Leonard dated on the show (Leslie Winkle). By the time he was 14, Galecki was living on his own in California; he dropped out of school in 8th grade.

His first acting job was on a show called "American Dreamer" (1990-91) when he was fifteen years old. Unlike Leonard, he does not wear glasses!
10. Involved in at least two marriages that lasted less than three years

Answer: Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco married an addiction specialist named Josh Resnik in October 2011, and they divorced in March of 2012. She then married a tennis player named Ryan Sweeting in December of 2015; they officially divorced in May of 2016. Although she has been seen on television commercials since she was six years old, her first major role was as Bridget Hennessy on "8 Simple Rules" (2002-2005).
