Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I got called "Pretty boy" my whole life". It isn't surprising that Jason Momoa earned this nickname at all, but it's definitely not suitable for his most well known role in a long running science fiction TV series (2004-2009). Can you name it?

Answer: Stargate Atlantis

Born in Hawaii in 1979, Jason Momoa is an actor, writer, director, producer and, of all things considering his most famous role, a model. That isn't totally surprising though, as this actor, with a mix of Hawaiian, Native American, German and Irish blood flowing through his veins, is remarkably good-looking. Before branching out into the film industry, Jason studied to be a marine biologist, tried painting in Paris, and taught Buddhism in Tibet as well. What a fascinating background.

His role in "Stargate Atlantis" (2004-2009), which is a spin-off from the original "Stargate SG-1" series (1997-2007), sees him playing Ronon Dex, a military specialist from the distant planet Sateda, who joins the Stargate crew team to fight the evil Wraith and numerous other villains. Comically so, Momoa, who wears dreadlocks throughout the series, had them removed after season four because he said they were giving him a headache and whiplash during action scenes. The network however made him reattach them. As this process took too long each day, he was forced to wear a dreadlock wig for the remainder of the series instead.
2. "I am now The Establishment. There's nothing I can do about it". Perhaps this remark by Jason Sudeikis was referring to his eight year career in a very popular, long-running TV comedy and variety show that has been around since 1975 and was still going strong in 2014. Can you name it?

Answer: Saturday Night Live

Born in Virginia in 1975, Jason Sudeikis is an American actor, screenwriter and comedian. He first began his entertainment career in the field of stand-up comedy, and comedy indeed seems to be his forte. Initially hired as a sketch writer for "Saturday Night Live" in 2003, he began to appear in bit roles on the show as well. By 2005 he had become a regular cast member and worked for this very popular long-running comedy and variety show, which began way back in 1980, for the following eight years.

In 2013, however, he announced he was leaving the show to pursue other interests. His career, up until that time, also included appearances in twenty-five films and guest roles in ten other television shows.
3. "I haven't got any expectations of busting through the pop charts". That remark by Australian actor Jason Donovan is somewhat amusing considering his career, after he left which long-running Australian TV series set in Ramsay Street?

Answer: Neighbours

Born in Melbourne in 1968, Jason Donovan is an Australian actor and singer, who, after his initial rise to fame in the long running TV series "Neighbours", found much wider acclaim when he moved overseas to further his career. Sadly, his parents divorced when he was a small child and his father, actor Terence Donovan, was awarded full custody of Jason. His mother has had no contact with him since that time. Perhaps because of his father's connection to the film industry, Jason began his entertainment career early, appearing in several productions before landing his famous TV role as Scott Robinson in the popular long-running series "Neighbours" which commenced in 1985 and was subsequently broadcast to fifty countries world wide. His role was centred strongly around the romance and wedding of his character and Charlene Mitchell, played by a young Kylie Minogue.

After Jason's singing added another bow to his entertainment portfolio, where several of his singles reached number one on the UK charts, he moved to that country to further his career. Since then, his music has sold over three millions records, he has appeared in several long-running musicals, the most notable of which was his lead role as Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". He has released six albums, twenty singles, and appeared in twelve films and thirteen TV shows. Unfortunately a severe drug addiction for several years, now conquered, put a woeful detour to a career that perhaps could have soared so much higher. Who knows?
4. "I was nervous and hesitant about putting myself out there for the pie scene. But I went for it and the results were wonderful". To which movie was American actor Jason Biggs referring?

Answer: American Pie

Born in New Jersey in 1978, Jason Biggs is an American actor, who, though he'd appeared in several films earlier, first came to the attention of the movie-going public in the 1999 movie, "American Pie". This film, the first in a series, became an international hit. It tells the story of a group of friends who make a pact to lose their virginity before graduating from high school, a quest that is apparently as American as apple pie, according to the film's blurb. Jason Biggs will forever be remembered for the scene in which he becomes overly amorous with an apple pie, after being informed that having sex is a little like a warm slice of this dessert. He is of course caught in the act, fortunately so by his father, played by Eugene Levy, perhaps the funniest character in the film.

Since then, and up until 2014, Jason Biggs has appeared in twenty-two more movies, had nine guest spots on television shows, made a music video, and played the lead role of Benjamin Braddock in a stage production of "The Graduate".
5. "One thing I think never goes out of style is just purity...niceness and purity. And the Muppets have never lost that. Kermit especially is just wide-eyed wonder. He can't blink, which I think probably helps". Which star of the 2011 musical comedy "The Muppets" made this amusing comment?

Answer: Jason Segel

Born in Los Angeles in 1980, Jason Segel is an American actor and screenwriter. His first role of any note was playing the character Nick Adropolis in the 1999 comedy-drama "Freaks and Geeks" which, though it only ran for a short time, soon developed a cult following. The story line is centred around a group of high school misfits and intellectuals as they try to make their way and fit into the popular social world of the average teenager. Since that time, Jason's career has continued to flourish. His most well known role has been his portrayal of the character, Marshall Eriksen, in the popular, long-running series "How I Met Your Mother" (2005-2014). In this he plays the best friend of the character around which the storyline of this series is set, one which is narrated by the future "self" of the main character as he relates the saga of the long search for the love of his life to his future children.

By 2014, Jason had appeared in twenty-five films, and had guest starring roles on nine other television shows. His most popular movie up until then was the 2011 musical comedy, "The Muppets". This is the story of a group of friends who convince the Muppets to re-unite and organise a telethon, in order to raise enough money to purchase the Muppet theatre, which is about to be sold off to an oil baron who plans to destroy it and drill for oil on the site. Oh, the greasy scoundrel!
6. "I would work with any one of them again in a heartbeat because it was joyous and incredibly easy". To which long running comedy series was Jason Alexander referring?

Answer: Seinfeld

Born in New Jersey in 1958, Jason Alexander is an American actor, singer, dancer, comedian, writer, producer and director. Wow! By 2014, he had appeared in many musicals and stage productions, one video game production, forty-nine films and forty-four different television shows in his more than impressive career. But wait, there's more! Jason, believe it or not, is also a skilled magician, has appeared in various advertisements, live stand-up comedy shows, and lent his voice to an audio biblical production. The man is a perpetual performing machine.

Forever associated with his name, however, will be his long running role as the hilarious George Costanza in the award winning comedy series "Seinfeld", which ran from 1989 to 1998. His character is an over the top neurotic who basically screws up everything he comes into contact with, including every relationship he's ever had. He's always in a state of anxiety over every aspect of his life; he's stingy, selfish, inclined to be dishonest - and is very, very funny. He makes us laugh helplessly at all his troubles, while knowing at the same time that he'll always land on his feet. Giving that gift of laughter to our sad old world is a wonderful gift indeed.
7. "I've always played disintegrated characters. I don't know much about acting, but I can play those kinds of characters". The powerful acting of this actor saw him win an Oscar for his role in a movie centred round the American Watergate scandal of the 1970s. Can you name him ?

Answer: Jason Robards

Born in Chicago in 1922, Jason Robards died in 2000. He was an American actor of stage, film and television, with an impressive list of awards that included an Emmy, a Tony and two Academy Awards during the course of his career. Jason was also a US Navy combat veteran from the second world war, was married four times and had six children. His most famous marriage was to Lauren Bacall, the widow of Humphrey Bogart, to whom Jason bore a startling resemblance. Struggling with alcoholism for a good part of his life, an illness that played a negative part in his personal life, Jason's battle with this disease never showed in his acting. During his career, he appeared in twenty-one stage productions, fifty-four television shows and fifty-nine films.

His incredibly powerful acting style and persona can be seen in all his films, two in particular. The first of these was his Academy Award performance in the 1976 "All the President's Men" as Ben Bradlee, the executive editor of the "Washington Post" newspaper involved in the Watergate scandal, which brought about the downfall of President Nixon. My favourite movie in which he appeared though is the 1989 comedy-drama "Parenthood" in which he plays Frank Buckman, the grumpy, prickly, "disintegrated" patriarch of the large family around which the film is centred. His true worth as a parent and grandparent is revealed, rather heart-breakingly so, at the film's conclusion.
8. "I have a tendency to evolve into William Shatner, with my big fat face". Which self-deprecating actor, who won several awards for the acclaimed series "Arrested Development" TV series, made that statement?

Answer: Jason Bateman

Born in New York in 1969, Jason Bateman is an American director, producer and actor in film and television. He first began his career in the entertainment business as the orphan boy, who, along with his sister, was adopted by the Ingalls family in the beautiful "Little House on the Prairie" series, which ran from 1974 until 1983.

His role as Michael Blunt in the critically acclaimed "Arrested Development" (2003-2006) in which he plays a very straight man thrown into a family of dysfunctional misfits, saw the lovely Jason winning a TV Land Award, a Golden Globe and two Satellite Awards. By 2014, Jason, who is the younger brother of actress Justine Batemen (of "Family Ties" fame), had appeared in thirty-seven films and thirty-two television productions, all of which saw him nominated nineteen times for various awards.

His self-deprecating humour, as evidenced in the above quote is typical of this charming actor, but fancy saying that about one of my favourite actors of all, the heroic and hilarious William Shatner of "Star Trek" and "Boston Legal" fame.

He should be transported for that.
9. "I want to sit and be less career oriented. Snowboard, dirt bike, mountain bike, surf. Just be human. To me that's an important part of life". This remark was quite possibly made by Jason Lewis because of his exhausting role as the love interest of Samantha Jones in which popular long running television series set in New York City?

Answer: Sex and the City

Born in California in 1971, Jason Lewis is an American actor and fashion model, who is most noted for his role as Jerry Jerrod in the long-running popular series "Sex and the City" (1998-2004). In this show, which details the love pursuits of four friends living in New York, Jason plays the much younger waiter who is seduced by the extremely sexually active cougar, Samantha Jones.

In spite of her instability, phobia about commitment, and the age difference between the two, Jerry sticks by her. This also includes her bout with cancer, during which he shaves his head to support her because of her chemotherapy related hair loss.

It is a weird rather touching romance that works in spite of everything. Jason, had, by 2014, also appeared in nineteen movies and seventeen television shows as well.
10. "Never categorize yourself. Society does that to you. Don't do it to yourself". This sound advice was given by an actor who was a leading character in a popular TV series of the 1990s about a group of teenagers growing up in a posh area of California. Who is he?

Answer: Jason Priestley

Born in Vancouver in 1969, Jason Priestley is a Canadian-American actor and director who is most noted perhaps for his portrayal of the almost saintly Brandon Walsh, in the hit television series, "Beverly Hills, 90210". This show, which relates the unfolding, impossibly dramatic lives of a group of teenagers living in Beverly Hills, California, ran from 1990 until 2000. During his time on the series, Brandon's initial too good to be true character has to deal with a drug addiction, alcoholism, a car crash, and the murder of his young wife. It's surprising the producers didn't make him pregnant as well. Interestingly, Jason, who played the twin brother to Brenda Walsh in the series, has a twin sister himself in real life. He had appeared in twenty-eight movies by 2014, and had guest appearances in more than sixty television shows as well.

In real life, in between his acting and directing work, Jason owns a FAZZT Race Team and races cars himself. In a case of life imitating art, this led to a serious accident in 2002 when his car crashed into a brick wall while travelling at 180 miles per hour. Thankfully, he recovered nicely - complete with a new haircut.
