Dame Edna Everage is easily recognised all over the world by her mauve coloured hair, outrageous eye glasses and flamboyant costumes. According to her book "My Gorgeous Life" (1989), the first words spoken by Dame Edna were "Mossop olleh" (hello possum spelled backwards) when she was just three minutes old.

Answer: Barry Humphries

Barry Humphries, who passed away in 2023, was Edna's alter ego who she referred to as her incompetent manager. He was in show business for more than 50 years, and was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in June 2007 for his services to the entertainment industry.

In March 2007 a Melbourne city street (Brown Alley) was renamed in her honour as Dame Edna Place. The street was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne John So. The Dame was not at the ceremony, she was represented by ten Dame Edna look-alikes.

The City of Essendon also honoured Edna back in the 1990s by naming a street in Moonee Ponds "Everage Street". The name "Everage Street" was decided by holding a competition within the municipality.

Edna's parents are Bruce and Gladys Beazley. Bruce Beazley was a war veteran who settled into civilian life as an "Electrolux" man selling vacuum cleaners door to door. Norman Gunston, John Clarke and Reg Gorman are all Australian comedians.

Dame Edna's mother Gladys, was taken away in a van one night to a maximum security twilight home for the bewildered. The family told her she was going on a five-star vacation.

Gladioli or "gladdies" are thrown to the audience at the end of the show. It began when Edna noticed a women staring at her bunch of gladioli in a vase on the stage. She gave the bunch to her and she then passed them along the row. The audience then started waving them along to the finale music, which gave Dame Edna the unique ending for her shows.
