Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actress is reported to have said, "Now I can wear heels again!" after divorcing her diminutive husband?

Answer: Nicole Kidman

Cruise is 5ft 7; Kidman is 5ft 11, and was nicknamed 'Storky' as a child because of her height. Kidman and Cruise divorced in 2001, and Kidman was photographed waving the divorce papers above her head and shouting, "I'm free!" She also stated at a conference in 2015 that one advantage of her divorce from Cruise was that it enabled her to focus on her career.
2. Which Hungarian-American socialite, with six divorces and one annulment under her belt, once said, "I am a marvellous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man, I keep his house'?

Answer: Zsa Zsa Gabor

Sári Gábor, or Zsa Zsa as she was better known, was the daughter of a Hungarian soldier and aristocrat, Milos and Jolie Gábor, and a socialite, actress and former beauty queen. Her ex-husbands were, in order: Turkish politician Burhan Asaf Belge (divorced 1941); Hilton Hotels founder Conrad Hilton Sr. (divorced 1947); British actor George Sanders (divorced 1954); investment banker Herbert Hutner (divorced 1966); Joshua Cosden Jr. (divorced 1967); designer Jack Ryan (divorced 1976); Michael O'Hara (divorced 1983); and Mexican attorney and actor Felipe de Alba (annulled in 1987, as Gabor's previous marriage to O'Hara had not been dissolved).

Her final husband, and widower, was German-American businessman Hans Lichtenberg, aka Frédéric, Prinz von Anhalt.

The above quote comes from her book 'How to Catch a Man, How to Keep a Man, How to Get Rid of a Man'.
3. Elizabeth Taylor had eight husbands during her lifetime. But which of these men did she marry - and divorce - more than once?

Answer: Richard Burton

Known as 'Dick and Liz', Taylor and Burton were a Hollywood golden couple. They met on the set of 'Cleopatra', while Taylor was married to her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher, and Burton to Sybil Williams. In 1963, they were photographed together at the premiere of 'Lawrence of Arabia', and were married in Canada the following year.

They appeared in several films together, including 'The Taming of the Shrew' and 'The Sandpiper'. However, Burton's alcoholism caused tensions, and the couple divorced for the first time in 1974.

However, in 1975, they soon got back together after a meeting about financial affairs resulted in them 'crying in each other's arms', according to 'Marie Claire', and were married in secret at Chobe National Park in Botswana.

Their second marriage lasted even less long than the first, and the couple were divorced only nine months later. However, they stayed friends, with Taylor stating that 'all the men after Richard were really just company'.
4. Britney Spears separated from her first husband when she was 23. How long did her marriage to Jason Alexander last?

Answer: 55 hours

Spears and Alexander, a childhood friend, were married in Las Vegas at A Little White Wedding Chapel. The chapel is a popular spot for quick celebrity weddings, and even has a drive-through tunnel where vows can be made; other celebrity weddings which have taken place include British TV presenters Charlie Brooker and Konnie Huq, and Frank Sinatra and actress Mia Farrow. 55 hours later, Spears and Alexander's marriage was annulled. Spears later claimed that she had married Alexander on impulse, and changed her mind soon after and filed for annulment. Her petition to the court claimed that she 'lacked understanding of her actions'.

By the age of 26, Spears had two failed marriages behind her. She had two sons with her second husband, dancer Kevin Federline, but the couple divorced in 2007. Spears had a breakdown shortly afterwards, shaving her head and checking into a rehab facility.
5. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie played a married couple in 'Mr & Mrs Smith', and became a couple for real whilst on set. During this period, he was going through divorce proceedings with which actress?

Answer: Jennifer Aniston

Although Pitt had dated both Paltrow and Lewis while on set with them, he tied the knot with Angelina Jolie after starring with her in 'Mr & Mrs Smith'. At the time, he and former 'Friends' actress Jennifer Aniston were undergoing divorce proceedings. Jolie denied any infidelity on Pitt's part at the time.

The tabloids ran with the story, dubbing the pair 'Brangelina'. Pitt became the adoptive father of Jolie's adopted children, Pax and Zahara, and the two eventually married in 2014. However, Jolie filed for divorce two years later, citing it was 'for the health of the family', and the subsequent custody battle became the subject of many a celebrity gossip article.
6. Which of these men is NOT a former husband of Demi Moore?

Answer: Heath Ledger

Demi Moore was born Demi Gene Harmon, but took her stage name from her first husband, musician Freddy Moore, with whom she collaborated on three songs, and who she married in 1980, when she was just 17. The couple divorced in 1984.

Moore married Bruce Willis, whom she met at the premiere for the film 'Stakeout', in 1987. The couple had three daughters, Rumer - who followed her parents into acting - Tallulah and Scout. They divorced 13 years later, and Moore married her third husband, 'toyboy' Ashton Kutcher, in 2005. (Both Freddy Moore and Willis had been older than Moore, whereas Kutcher was 15 years younger.) The couple finalised their divorce in 2012.
7. Michael Jackson and his wife divorced in 1996. Which musician, who had died 19 years earlier, was the father of the bride?

Answer: Elvis Presley

Lisa-Marie Presley, Elvis' daughter, had been several times to see a teenage Jackson perform in Las Vegas, aged 7, and had been introduced to him by her father. As an adult, she became friends with him in 1992. They married two years later. According to Randy Taraborelli's biography of Jackson, the accusations of child abuse took their toll on him, and he sought emotional support from Presley. Presley was also allegedly concerned about Jackson's drug problems, and begged him to go into rehab. She filed for divorce in 1996, after asking Jackson not to, and the couple had an on-and-off relationship afterwards, with attempts at reconciliation. Presley went on to marry actor Nicolas Cage, although that marriage also only lasted two years.
8. Musician Jerry Lee Lewis divorced his third wife, Myra Gale Brown - who was also his cousin's daughter - in 1970. Their marriage had been a controversial one, not just because they were related, but because she was how old at the time they married?

Answer: 13

Lewis' relationship with his cousin (first cousin once removed, more specifically) caused outrage across the US and negatively affected his career. Although Lewis and his management insisted Brown was 15 - he himself was 22 - the truth came out that she was 13, and his British tour was subsequently cancelled after three gigs. Several US radio stations refused to play his music, although Lewis remained active in the industry. The couple married in 1958, although they had to have a second wedding ceremony as Lewis was still going through divorce proceedings with his second wife, Jane Mitchum, at the time. Brown reportedly stated, "You can marry at 10 (in the US) if you find a husband."

Like Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa Zsa Gabor, Lewis had several marriages and divorces behind him. His first marriage, to Dorothy Barton in 1952, lasted just over a year.
9. One of the most expensive divorce settlements of all time was between French-American businessman Alec Wildenstein and his wife Jocelyn, a socialite, estimated to be around $3.8 billion. Jocelyn Wildenstein, known as the 'Bride of Wildenstein', attracted attention from the media for what distinguishing feature?

Answer: Extensive plastic surgery

Coverage of the divorce proceedings between the Wildensteins shed a light on their lavish lifestyle. An article in 'New York' estimated their living expenses to be $1 million a month on average. A 1998 article in 'People' reported that Alec had banned Jocelyne from most of their mansion, and that she was only allowed one servant and access to a sitting room, 'gourmet kitchen', bedroom and indoor pool. Alec cited Jocelyne's obsession with plastic surgery as a reason for their divorce, stating, "She has the impression that you fix a face the way you fix a house." Jocelyne was also dubbed the 'Cat Woman' and 'Lion Queen' for her resemblance to a cat; one rumour claimed she had plastic surgery to make her more cat-like to please Alec, a lover of big cats. Alec was also charged with menacing Jocelyne after he pulled a gun on her when she walked in on him and another woman.
10. The break-up of relationships has inspired many a song, and there's plenty of material when the break-up happens to be with your own bandmate. Three of these bands contain a couple who were married, and then divorced. Can you spot the odd one out?

Answer: Mark Roberts and Cerys Matthews (Catatonia)

Many Abba songs, from 'The Winner Takes It All' to 'When All Is Said and Done' (which Bjorn Ulvaeus actually wrote about Lyngstad and Andersson's divorce), revolve around the break-up of relationships. It's not surprising, given that both couples in the band ended up divorcing; Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog in 1979, and Lyngstad and Andersson in 1981.

At the height of their fame, Fleetwood Mac were rife with inter-band relationship troubles. Not only did John and Christine McVie, the band's keyboard player and bassist, divorce in 1976, but singer Stevie Nicks had relationships with both guitarist Lindsay Buckingham - which inspired 'Go Your Own Way' on 'Rumours' - and drummer Mick Fleetwood. Peter Green, one of the original members, had been best man at the McVies' wedding.

Jack and Meg White originally marketed themselves as siblings, but it later came out that the two had originally been married in 1996, and divorced in 2000. Jack was born Jack Gillis, but took Meg's name. He later married - and divorced - actress Renée Zellweger, followed by model Karen Elson.

Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews was in a relationship with guitarist and co-songwriter Mark Roberts before and during her time in the band, but the two never married, and they split up around the time of the band's first album 'Way Beyond Blue'. After Catatonia split, Matthews moved to America and married producer Seth Riddle, but the couple divorced in 2007.
