She portrayed Galadriel in Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings' series. In legendary director Martin Scorsese's 'The Aviator', Blanchett took on the challenging role of playing actress Katherine Hepburn and nailed it. She won her first Oscar for this performance. The movie was about the life of Howard Hughes and also starred Leonardo DiCaprio. Her performance in Alejandro Inarritu's 'Babel' is also one for the ages! Blanchett married director and screenwriter Andrew Upton in 1997. She has voiced her support for environmental awareness and supports many of its champions like Al Gore. Australia released postage stamps with the faces of Russell Crowe, Geoffrey Rush, Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett on them - all of them being Australian Oscar winners. Each person appeared on two stamps, one as themselves and one as their Oscar nominated characters. Cate Blanchett appeared as Queen Elizabeth I in the postage stamps.
