Norma Jeane Baker was born on the 1st of June, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. She later took on the name, Marilyn Monroe, in order to stand out amongst the many actresses who were named Jean. Her first appearance on screen was in 1947, when she played the role of Evie, in "Dangerous Years" (1947). From there, she went on to become the familiar iconic blonde bombshell the American Film Institute voted as the 6th greatest female star of all time, in 1999. Unlike many of the celebrities of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, Monroe was celebrated for her curves.

She had a string of successful films, including "The Seven Year Itch" (1955), "Bus Stop" (1956) and "Some Like It Hot" (1959). Her ex husbands were policeman and author, James Dougherty, legendary baseball star, Joe DiMaggio, and playwright Arthur Miller. Monroe died on the 5th of August, 1962, of an apparent overdose, although there has been much conjecture about this in the years since her death.

Jennifer Lynn Lopez, (also known as J-Lo) was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1969, and began her career as a dancer on the 1990 television programme, "In Living Colour". Over time, she made her way into the recording studio, producing a string of hit singles, including "If You Had My Love", "Love Don't Cost a Thing", "I'm Real" and "Jenny from the Block". Her breakout film role came in the 1997 biopic, "Selena", which earned Lopez a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. From there she went on to star in a string of moderately successful films, including "The Wedding Planner" (2001) and "Maid in Manhattan" (2002). The latter film brought Lopez great commercial success, and was a modern take on the classic 'rags to riches' story. In this film, Lopez played Marisa, a poor single mother, who worked at an exclusive New York hotel. Marisa ended up falling in love with a rich senatorial candidate, Christopher Marshall, who, due to a misunderstanding, believed her to be a rich socialite. Terrified that she would be fired for her deception, Marisa tried to avoid Christopher, who continued to pursue her, for he was rapidly falling in love with her. Despite the success of many of Lopez's films, she also had her share of failures, notably the 2003 film, "Gigli", which also starred her then fiancé, Ben Affleck.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on the 4th of September, 1981, in Houston, Texas. Often referred to simply as Beyoncé, she was propelled into the spotlight in the late 1990s, along with her girl band, "Destiny's Child". In 2002, she went on to star in the third installment of the Austin Powers series, in "Goldmember". On 4th of April, 2008, Beyoncé married rapper Jay-Z, who is some years older than her.

However it was not until 2004 that Eva Longoria-Parker really hit the big time, when she landed the role of bored housewife, Gabrielle Solis, on the hit television series, "Desperate Housewives". Scarlett Johansson was born on the 22nd of November, 1984, in New York City. Johansson was quite the child star, making her film debut at the age of nine, in the 1994 film, "North", which was directed by Rob Reiner. However it was her performance in "The Horse Whisperer" (1998) which really brought her to the forefront. The 2003 film, "Lost in Translation", in which Johansson starred alongside Bill Murray, proved that she had made the transition from child star, to a mature actress, and she was rewarded with a BAFTA for her role as Charlotte. The plot of the film revolved around two lonely individuals, Bob (Murray) and Charlotte (Johansson), who became friends, despite the age difference between them. The pair bonded due to their shared loneliness, and shared a number of adventures in Tokyo, experiencing Japan together.

In terms of her personal life, Johansson has been linked with many famous actors, such as Josh Hartnett and Jared Leto. But in 2008 she married Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds. She has also been quite outspoken in her criticism of the media, and has been quoted as saying that "Women shouldn't be forced to conform to unrealistic and unhealthy body images that the media promote".

Tyra Lynne Banks was born on the 4th of December, 1973, in Inglewood, California. When Banks was just a teenager, she took Paris by storm, booking a tremendous twenty-five runway shows on her first visit to the city. Superstardom soon followed, and she went on to do extensive print work, as well as walking the runway. At the height of her career, Banks undoubtedly became a supermodel, and was the first African-American women to grace the cover of "GQ", the "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue" and the "Victoria Secret" catalogue. After retiring from modelling, she began to focus on television, and not only created, but also hosted the hit reality television series, "America's Next Top Model" (2003). Not content with this, in 2005, Banks also hosted the American talk-show, "The Tyra Banks Show", (which she had also created). She has also dabbled in the music and film industry, and is best remembered for her appearance in "Coyote Ugly" (2000), as Zoe, and in Michael Jackson's video for the single, "Black or White" (1990).

Throughout her career, Banks has always cited the significance of her mother's support, and has remained close to her family. Although her mother and father divorced when she was just six years old, her parents maintained a friendly relationship, for the sake of Banks and her older brother, Devin.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on the 2nd of February, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. A musical sensation, Shakira is known for her Latin American style of music, and in particularly, her belly dancing. Although she was well known in Spain and Latin America, it was not until 2001 that she succeeded in making her mark on English speakers, with her single, "Whenever, Wherever". From there she went on to achieve further success with her 2006 single, "Hips Don't Lie". Her live performances of this single, as well as its video showed Shakira belly dancing in the manner she has become famous for. Similarly, her the video for her 2009 single, "She Wolf", displayed Shakira's contortionist abilities to maximum effect.

Shakira was brought up bilingually, and speaks four different languages; Spanish, which is her native tongue, English, Portuguese and Italian. Her name is Arabic in origin, and means "thankful". She grew up in Colombia, and had a half-brother, who died in a motorcycle accident when she was very young.

Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez was born on the 2nd of September, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. The first Mexican to ever be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, she started her career acting in telenovelas such as "Un Nuevo Amanecer" (1988) and "Teresa" (1989). After conquering Mexico, Hayek moved to Los Angeles in order to pursue her acting career. Her big break came in 1995, when she was cast in "Desperado". From there she went on to make a memorable appearance as a vampire in "From Dusk till Dawn" (1996) and co-star with Will Smith in "Wild Wild West" (1999). The latter film revolved around James West (played by Smith) and Artemus Gordon's (Kline) attempts to prevent the assassination of President U. S. Grant, which would spark a Civil War. Hayek played Rita Escobar, who was found in the mansion of the man suspected of trying to kill the president. After being rescued by Gordon, she joined the duo in their quest to prevent Civil War.

One of Hayek's biggest successes came in the 2002 film, "Frida", in which she not only starred, but also co-produced. This was the film that earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Catherine Zeta-Jones was born on 25th September 1969, in Swansea, Wales. An entertainer from an early age, Zeta-Jones left school without sitting her O levels, her sights firmly set on the world of acting. In the years before she hit it big in Hollywood, the British public knew her as the fresh faced, Mariette, in the popular television programme, "The Darling Buds of May" (1991). But in 1998 she hit the big time, starring alongside fellow Welshman, Anthony Hopkins, in "The Mask of Zorro" (1998). This film revolved around the plight of Zorro, (played by Anthony Hopkins), who was captured many years before. With his wife dead and his daughter, Eléna, (Zeta-Jones) taken, Zorro set out to find her. However he soon discovered that she was being raised as the governor's child, and vowed revenge. Enlisting the help of a young thief, Zorro taught his apprentice everything he knew, in preparation for his role as the new wearer of the Mask of Zorro.

A string of successes followed "The Mask of Zorro" (1998), including "Entrapment" (1999) and "Traffic" (2000). In 2002, she was cast as Velma Kelly, in the film adaptation of the musical, "Chicago". This role earned her critical acclaim, as well as an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, cementing her status on the Hollywood A-list. The plot of "Chicago" revolved around Velma (Zeta-Jones) and Roxie (Renée Zellweger), and their attempts to convince and blackmail people into believing that they did not murder their husbands. Following this film, Zeta-Jones continued to secure meaty roles, and has acted alongside some of Hollywood's legends, including Sean Connery, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Renée Zellweger, Richard Gere and Tom Hanks.

On the 18th of November, 2000, Zeta-Jones married fellow actor, Michael Douglas, who was twenty five years her senior. They had two children, Dylan and Carys, whose traditional Welsh names are a testament to the importance of Zeta-Jones' Welsh roots. This film told the story of two young girls who, together, murdered one of their mothers for trying to keep them apart. Winslet also gained widespread international fame in 1997, for her performance in the blockbuster film, "Titanic". This film used the story of the sinking of the Titanic as the backdrop to a love story between a young woman (played by Winslet) and a third class passenger (played by Leonardo DiCaprio). They enjoyed a brief romance, which sadly ended in tragedy, as the ship sank. As Winslet stripped during the film, a great deal of attention was paid to her body by the media. As a result, she was praised for her womanly curves, and for refusing to succumb to the stick thin, size zero "ideal" preferred by many of Hollywood's actresses. Further successes followed, and in 2008, Winslet's role as Hanna Schmitz in "The Reader", earned her a Best Actress Oscar.

Kate Winslet has been linked with various gentlemen, and married director, Jim Threapleton in 1998. The two went on to have a daughter together, Mia Honey, who was born in 2000. However the year after their daughter's birth, the pair divorced. Winslet then began a relationship with another director, Sam Mendes, who she went on to marry in 2003.
