None of the people involved in the making of "Jinxed!" were happy with the result. Bette and co-star Ken Wahl could not stand each other, and veteran director Don Siegel retired at age 70 after making it. Siegel's best known film is the original version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and Clint Eastwood credits much of his skill as a director to him. (Siegel's second-best known film
was "Two Mules for Sister Sara", which starred Clint and Shirley MacLaine.)

Eastwood dedicated "Unforgiven" to Don Siegel when the film was released one year after his death.

In the movie, Bette and Shelley Long play two women searching for a man who had been having an affair with both of them. Early in the film, Shelley's character expresses an ambition to play Hamlet, and the film's title comes from a quote in Shakepeare's play. Here it is:

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles..."

Answer: Down and Out in Beverly Hills

The film is a remake of Jean Renoir's 1932 French film (based on René Fauchois' play), "Boudu Saved from Drowning", in which a homeless man is rescued from the Seine river by a kind bookseller. In this update, Nick Nolte ends up falling into the pool of a dysfunctional California family's mansion. Bette and Richard Dreyfuss played the parents. Tracy Nelson and Evan Richards played their kids.

Answer: Beaches

"Beaches" featured Bette's hit version of the ballad "Wind Beneath My Wings". She and Barbara Hershey played two women who had been friends since childhood. Although a majority of critics panned the film, it was successful at the box office, and there is even a bar in Edinburgh named after Bette's character, C.C. Bloom.

Answer: The First Wives Club

The hit film was based on Olivia Goldsmith's popular novel and directed by Hugh Wilson (best known for the original "Police Academy"). One scene in the film depicts Goldie Hawn's character as having had one too many cosmetic surgeries. Ironically, author Goldsmith suffered a heart attack in January 2004 while under anesthesia before she was to undergo a chin tuck herself.
