4. Which TV show was a major influence on Simon when writing the sit-com "Spaced" (1999 - 2001)?

Answer: Northern Exposure

"Northern Exposure's" use of fantasy was a major influence on the show. Both Simon and co-writer Jessica Stevenson pitched the show as a cross between the "X Files", "Northern Exposure" and "The Simpsons". Joel Fleishman was the central character in "Northern Exposure".

He was a doctor who had promised four years of his services to the state of Alaska when they agreed to pay for his education. What he hadn't realised at the time was that he had to spend those four years in the tiny town of Cicely, Alaska, with a population of only 215 people.

Many of the episodes were about the eccentricities of people "removed" from the real world and were very character driven.
5. Whilst writing "Spaced" with Jessica Stevenson, with whom was Simon sharing a flat?

Answer: Nick Frost

Whilst writing "Spaced", Simon was sharing a flat with Nick Frost. He wrote Nick into the script after he had made up a gun loving character to make Simon laugh; this was Mike in the series. Although Nick was not an actor Simon persuaded the producers to cast him.

There were 14 episodes in all spread over two series from 1999 to 2001. The two series were about the trials and tribulations of Tim Bisley, played by Simon and Daisy Steiner, played by Jessica Stevenson. They met by accident in a café when they were both hunting for a flat.

A perfect place was available but only to a couple, so they decided to pose as boyfriend and girlfriend to get the place. The series followed the strange, and often surreal adventures they had whilst coming to terms with what they want to do with their lives, broken love affairs and, amongst other things, people trying to nobble their robot in the quarter finals of "Robot Wars".
6. What was the name of the pub Shaun and his friends retreated to in the movie "Shaun of the Dead", released in 2004?

Answer: The Winchester

Shaun's girlfriend Liz had split up with him because of all the time he spent in the Winchester with his friend Ed. When they realised that there was a plague of zombies, the friends barricaded themselves into the pub. Eventually the zombies found them. They were rescued by the British Army but not before most of them were killed or bitten by the zombies.
7. What was the name of the first Hollywood blockbuster movie Simon appeared in?

Answer: Mission: Impossible 3

Although not the first choice to act in "Mission:Impossible 3" (2006), Simon was more than happy to take the role offered to him by director J.J. Abrams. Simon played Benji Dunn, an Impossible Mission technician who helped Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise to find his wife. Hunt's wife had been kidnapped by Owen Davian, an international black marketeer.

He wanted Hunt to get a mysterious object codenamed the "Rabbit's Foot" for him and then he could get his wife back. Benji helped by finding information about her whereabouts on a phone stolen from Hunt's senior officer, Musgrove, who was found to be working for Davian.

When asked if he would like a role in the movie Simon said," It was a no-brainer really. I had to have a little sit down after the conversation, just to get the heart rate down."
8. What was the name of Simon's character in the movie "Hot Fuzz"?

Answer: Nick Angel

Nick Angel was transferred from the Met to a sleepy Gloucestershire village. As Nick struggled to overcome the boredom of village life, a number of murders disguised as accidents occurred. After much confusion, Nick and Danny solved the case, Nick turned down his old job at the Met and stayed in Sandford. The film was released in 2007.
9. "Run Fat Boy, Run", released in 2007, told the story of Dennis Doyle, a 'committmentphobe' who realised he had made a mistake in jilting his pregnant girlfriend at the alter five years before and tried to win her back by running a marathon. Did he finish the race?

Answer: Yes

Although he was tripped up by Whit at the beginning of the race and was badly hurt, Pegg's character Dennis did manage to finish, unlike his rival Whit. The final scene showed him asking his ex-girlfriend out on a date and her accepting. Whit went back to America.
10. Who did Simon marry in 2005?.

Answer: Maureen McCann

Simon married Scottish P.R. worker Maureen McCann on July 23rd 2005. They were married in Glasgow and Nick Frost was the Best Man. The bride was almost an hour late to the church as the zip on her wedding dress had broken. Simon joked that he might have to marry Nick.
