Very few actresses can parallel Marlene Dietrich's career either in commercial success OR the longevity of her popularity. In the 1920s she acted in silent films and stage productions that were, for the most part, limited to German audiences. Her international fame seemed instantaneous once she was cast in Hollywood's "The Blue Angel" (1930). "Blond Venus" (1932) was a film that featured Dietrich and (then) little known Cary Grant.

Her last major motion picture was in 1984; it was "Marlene", a documentary film about her.

According to information now available, Ann Miller was actually 13 years old when she began to work as an 18 year old showgirl to provide life's necessities for her and her deaf, divorced mother. She was given a contract at RKO about this same time, at the advice of Lucille Ball and others. Ann Miller quickly became known for her unequalled tap dancing skills.

Many of her movies do showcase her dancing talent. Her movie, "Lovely to Look At" (1952) is not her best known film but it also starred other well known actors including Kathryn Grayson, Red Skelton and Howard Keel.

Anne Bancroft had already won an Oscar (for "The Miracle Worker" from 1962) when she agreed to play the part of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" (1967). She and her co-star, Dustin Hoffman, were both superb. According to the movie, Dustin's character, Ben, is supposed to be less than half Mrs. Robinson's age.

In reality Dustin was less than six years younger than Anne. By the way, the sexy, hosiery-clad leg seen in the movie's iconic poster is not that of Anne Bancroft; it is Linda Gray's leg. Anne starred in a lesser known movie in 1957 called "The Girl in Black Stockings".

The story of Cybill Shepherd's discovery tells that movie director, Peter Bogdanovich, saw her on the cover of "Glamour" magazine while he was standing in he checkout line of a supermarket. She was quickly cast as the female lead in Bogdanovich's award winning movie, "The Last Picture Show" (1971). Cybill Shepherd has always been determined to be more than just a pretty face and a pair of long legs; she has used her fame and notoriety to champion human rights causes that are important to her.

It should be well-known, by now, that Gwyneth Paltrow is the daughter of award winning actress, Blythe Danner and producer/director, Bruce Paltrow. Obviously, she learned much by watching her parents. The movie "Flesh and Bone" (1993) is one of her earliest films but it was apparent - even then - she was able to act with the veterans (also in the film), Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid and James Caan.

Her talents have taken her in many directions since. For example, in late 2007 she began a series for PBS about the food and culture of Spain.

She was initially very popular as a member of the group Destiny's Child - selling over 60 million records. Beyoncé had already released her first solo CD, "Dangerously in Love" (2003) before Destiny's Child disbanded in 2006. "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" was a number one single (on several music industry charts) for Beyoncé in 2008. On her own she only became more popular and more successful as an entertainer and entrepreneur.

Her record sales, tours, films, endorsements and clothing line have made her one of the world's best-paid music personalities of all time. Not to mention, her marriage to rapper-entertainer, Jay-Z, creates a union of incredible wealth and power within the entertainment industry.

At the age of twenty-two Jennifer Lawrence won her first Academy Award. She won the Best Actress award for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook" (2012). It was as she climbed those few steps to the stage to accept that award when her foot caught the front hem of her gown and she stumbled.

Her recovery was one that would have been amazing for a seasoned professional let alone a relative ingénue. Lawrence had also starred in the movie "The Hunger Games" (2012) which not only set records for an opening day gross but became the best selling DVD of 2012 once it was released on DVD and Blu-ray.
