Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We would be baffled to answer if this movie legend was more recognized for her incredible long legs, her perfect sculptured cheekbones or her alluring "bedroom" eyes. She was born in 1901 in what later became a part of Berlin, Germany but she became a worldwide favorite. Who is this blond venus?

Answer: Marlene Dietrich

Very few actresses can parallel Marlene Dietrich's career either in commercial success OR the longevity of her popularity. In the 1920s she acted in silent films and stage productions that were, for the most part, limited to German audiences. Her international fame seemed instantaneous once she was cast in Hollywood's "The Blue Angel" (1930). "Blond Venus" (1932) was a film that featured Dietrich and (then) little known Cary Grant.

Her last major motion picture was in 1984; it was "Marlene", a documentary film about her.
2. Who was the best Tarzan in film? Arguably, the ubiquitous image of Tarzan would be the one portrayed by Johnny Weissmuller. Thus, the image of Jane would be one of a long legged beauty with wonderfully, waist length curly hair and a perfect body of a devil-doll. Who was this actress?

Answer: Maureen O'Sullivan

The lovely Irish lass, Maureen O'Sullivan, would star with Johnny Weissmuller in six "Tarzan" films during the 1930s and 1940s. Those films have been so perennially enjoyed that it is often forgotten how exceptionally varied was the acting career O'Sullivan gave us.

For example, "The Devil-Doll" (1936) starred Lionel Barrymore and Maureen O'Sullivan in a what has been billed as a sci/fi/horror/suspense/mystery/melodrama film. O'Sullivan is often remembered, as well, as the wife of John Farrow and the mother of Mia Farrow.
3. This long legged, Texas born, beautiful brunette started her life as Johnnie Lucille Collier. She is said to have been discovered by Lucille Ball. An incredible dancer, singer and actress, who was this lovely to look at performer?

Answer: Ann Miller

According to information now available, Ann Miller was actually 13 years old when she began to work as an 18 year old showgirl to provide life's necessities for her and her deaf, divorced mother. She was given a contract at RKO about this same time, at the advice of Lucille Ball and others. Ann Miller quickly became known for her unequalled tap dancing skills.

Many of her movies do showcase her dancing talent. Her movie, "Lovely to Look At" (1952) is not her best known film but it also starred other well known actors including Kathryn Grayson, Red Skelton and Howard Keel.
4. She was a cougar before the term cougar was cool, with her starring role as a seductress of a much younger and rather naïve friend-of-the-family in "The Graduate" (1967). The movie poster gives us a glimpse of a long legged, lingerie clad lady with her hesitant conquest shown in the shadows. Who was this girl in black stockings?

Answer: Anne Bancroft

Anne Bancroft had already won an Oscar (for "The Miracle Worker" from 1962) when she agreed to play the part of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" (1967). She and her co-star, Dustin Hoffman, were both superb. According to the movie, Dustin's character, Ben, is supposed to be less than half Mrs. Robinson's age.

In reality Dustin was less than six years younger than Anne. By the way, the sexy, hosiery-clad leg seen in the movie's iconic poster is not that of Anne Bancroft; it is Linda Gray's leg. Anne starred in a lesser known movie in 1957 called "The Girl in Black Stockings".

She plays a murderer - and, she is blonde!
5. The epitome of an entertainer this long-legged, sultry star has done it all - movies, TV, Las Vegas shows, live theater and music recordings. It is her dancing that has been the show stopper of most of her performances and has earned her the nickname Female Elvis. Who is this super-sexy Scandinavian?

Answer: Ann-Margret

Ann-Margret was born in Sweden in April of 1941. The two movies that gave her initial success were "Bye, Bye Birdie" (1963) and "Viva Las Vegas" (1964). As she has aged, she has retained much of the "sex kitten" image that made her a much in demand movie star (in the 1960s) but she has also proven herself to be a respected actress. Ann-Margret has also won the much deserved affection of the American public with her frequent appearances as a part of the USO shows to entertain American military.
6. Which actress put her long legs to good use as she won the Miss Teenage Memphis contest in 1966 and then just two years later (in 1968) won Model of the Year contest? Her first film was certainly NOT her last picture show.

Answer: Cybill Shepherd

The story of Cybill Shepherd's discovery tells that movie director, Peter Bogdanovich, saw her on the cover of "Glamour" magazine while he was standing in he checkout line of a supermarket. She was quickly cast as the female lead in Bogdanovich's award winning movie, "The Last Picture Show" (1971). Cybill Shepherd has always been determined to be more than just a pretty face and a pair of long legs; she has used her fame and notoriety to champion human rights causes that are important to her.
7. This entertainer is an accomplished singer, dancer, movie star, businesswoman and philanthropist. With all of this to her credit she may still be remembered for her long legs (and, other body parts!) as they were seen in green, silk Versace dress she wore to the Grammy Awards ceremony in February, 2000. Who is this gal from the block?

Answer: Jennifer Lopez

Who can forget the image of Jennifer Lopez in the Versace dress with its plunging neckline and split up to there front line? It left little for our imaginations. So significant, the dress earned its place on display at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Jennifer Lopez has accomplished so much as an entertainer, though. "Jenny from the Block" is one of her songs from her double-platinum (US sales figures) CD, "This Is Me...Then" (2002).

Her then boyfriend, Ben Afleck, is said to have influenced much of the musical lyrics heard in the songs from that CD.

He can be seen in video of "Jenny from the Block", too.
8. This second generation entertainer has experienced a varied and successful career in her own right. The range of her roles and performances in award winning movies is impressive. Not just any beautiful woman with long, lovely legs she is obviously an extremely talented artist of flesh and bone. Who is she - "People" magazine's "Most Beautiful Woman" of 2013?

Answer: Gwyneth Paltrow

It should be well-known, by now, that Gwyneth Paltrow is the daughter of award winning actress, Blythe Danner and producer/director, Bruce Paltrow. Obviously, she learned much by watching her parents. The movie "Flesh and Bone" (1993) is one of her earliest films but it was apparent - even then - she was able to act with the veterans (also in the film), Meg Ryan, Dennis Quaid and James Caan.

Her talents have taken her in many directions since. For example, in late 2007 she began a series for PBS about the food and culture of Spain.
9. If you watch even one of her music videos, movies or live performances you will soon see this entertainer IS stepping out with long (beautiful) legs. Her incredible talents parallel her stunning beauty - evidenced by a singing career that adds her name to the best-selling music artists of all time. Who is the entertainer with some good advice for single ladies?

Answer: Beyoncé Knowles

An entertainer is in good company when he or she can be known by one name - think Elvis, Liberace, Cher and Beyoncé. She was initially very popular as a member of the group Destiny's Child - selling over 60 million records. Beyoncé had already released her first solo CD, "Dangerously in Love" (2003) before Destiny's Child disbanded in 2006. "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" was a number one single (on several music industry charts) for Beyoncé in 2008. On her own she only became more popular and more successful as an entertainer and entrepreneur.

Her record sales, tours, films, endorsements and clothing line have made her one of the world's best-paid music personalities of all time. Not to mention, her marriage to rapper-entertainer, Jay-Z, creates a union of incredible wealth and power within the entertainment industry.
10. This actress, who was born in Kentucky in August 1990, may have lost her footing with a very embarrassing stumble at a 2013 award ceremony but she recovered seamlessly. At that time, she was still a relative new-comer in the entertainment world but with her obvious talent, good looks, fetching personality and long legs it may be safe to say she is just catching fire. Who is she?

Answer: Jennifer Lawrence

At the age of twenty-two Jennifer Lawrence won her first Academy Award. She won the Best Actress award for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook" (2012). It was as she climbed those few steps to the stage to accept that award when her foot caught the front hem of her gown and she stumbled.

Her recovery was one that would have been amazing for a seasoned professional let alone a relative ingénue. Lawrence had also starred in the movie "The Hunger Games" (2012) which not only set records for an opening day gross but became the best selling DVD of 2012 once it was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

The second installment in that series is "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (2013).
