Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Was Zeppo in the movie "A Day at the Races" (1937)?

Answer: No

"A Day at the Races" was about a sanitarium that was trying to keep from closing. The movie starred Chico, Harpo and Groucho Marx, Margaret Dumont and Allan Jones.

"A Day at the Races" was the second movie that Zeppo wasn't in. After "Duck Soup" (1933) he quit the team because he felt he wasn't funny enough. After Zeppo quit acting he became an agent.
2. Which of the following movies wasn't one of the Marx Brothers' movies?

Answer: Everyone Says I Love You

"Everyone Says I Love You" was a song that appeared multiple times throughout the movie "Horse Feathers" (1932). "Monkey Business" (1931) was their third movie, "Horse Feathers" was their fourth and "Duck Soup" (1933) was their fifth.
3. Which of the following movies was Zeppo not in?

Answer: At the Circus

Zeppo appeared in "Monkey Business" (1931), "Horse Feathers" (1932) and "Animal Crackers" (1930). All of the Marx brothers played characters with their own names in "Monkey Business". Zeppo played Frank Wagstaff in "Horse Feathers" and Lt. Bob Roland in "Duck Soup" (1933). When "At the Circus" (1939) was made Zeppo had already left the act because he felt he was not funny enough.
4. Zeppo was in more Marx Brothers movies than Margaret Dumont.

Answer: False

Margaret Dumont was in 7: "The Cocoanuts" (1929), "Animal Crackers" (1930), "Duck Soup" (1933), "A Night at the Opera"( 1935), "A Day at the Races" (1937), "At the Circus" (1939) and "Big Store" (1941). Zeppo was only in 5: "The Cocoanuts", "Animal Crackers", "Monkey Business" (1931), "Horse Feathers" (1932) and "Duck Soup" before he left the act.

Therefore, it is not true that Zeppo was in more Marx Brothers movies than Margaret Dumont.
5. Which of the brothers was the oldest?

Answer: Chico

Chico was the oldest, followed by Harpo, then Groucho, then Zeppo. They also had another brother between Groucho and Zeppo, named Gummo, who left the act before they started making movies.
6. Which of the Marx Bros. dressed up as Harpo and went on the show "I've Got A Secret" (1952-1967) with the secret that he wasn't actually Harpo?

Answer: Chico

When the Marx bros. were growing up Chico and Harpo would often be mistaken for twins. After they'd stopped making movies Chico took this to his advantage and went on the show "I've Got A Secret" dressed as Harpo, with the secret that he was really Chico and fooled all of the panelists. Harpo was the one everyone was told was going to be on the show so the secret that it was really Chico fooled all of them.
7. Which of the following is true about Harpo and his harp playing?

Answer: He played it incorrectly.

Harpo taught himself how to play the harp after his brother Chico was given the only piano lessons his parents could afford. It is said that although he taught himself how to play it incorrectly, many harp players would come up to him wanting to learn his technique.
8. What was the last Marx Brothers movie?

Answer: Love Happy

"Love Happy" (1949) was about a group of people trying to put together a play without much money to work with. Meanwhile Harpo, one of the people trying to put on the play, accidentally got mixed up in a rich woman's attempt to steal some diamonds.
9. Which of the Marx Bros. lived the longest, or was the oldest when he died?

Answer: Groucho

Groucho was 86 when he died, making him the one who lived the longest, even though he was born third of the five. Next was Gummo who died four months before Groucho and lived to the age of 84. Then came Zeppo at the age of 78, Harpo at the age of 75 and then Chico at the age of 74.
10. Harpo's birth name was Adolph but what did he later change his name to?

Answer: Arthur

He changed it to Arthur because he didn't like the German name Adolph. Arthur is also the name of Groucho's only son. Julius is Groucho's real name, Leonard is Chico's real name and Herbert is Zeppo's real name. In case you were wondering, Gummo's real name is Milton.
