Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Marry me baby, one more time!" Before K-Fed, pop star Britney Spears had a very brief marriage to a childhood friend: 55 hours, to be exact. What was his name?

Answer: Jason Alexander

Britney and Jason Alexander (not to be confused with the actor who played George on the U.S. television series "Seinfeld") got married in Las Vegas on January 3, 2004. The marriage was annulled on January 5, 2004, just 55 hours later. According to Spears's record company, the marriage was a "joke that went too far". However, in an interview that Alexander did for a UK newspaper, he claimed that the marriage was Britney's idea, but that the Spears family was upset about the marriage and pressured him to sign the annulment papers.

Spears married her back-up dancer Kevin Federline in September 2004. That marriage lasted two years, much longer than her first. Britney filed for divorce from K-Fed in November 2006 and the divorce became final in July 2007.

Alexander was arrested for DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol) in 2006 and again in 2008 for violating his probation: he allegedly failed to attend a court-ordered education program.
2. "You had me from hello", but not for long! Actress Renee Zellweger was briefly married to a country music star. Which one?

Answer: Kenny Chesney

Kenny Chesney supposedly wrote the song "You Had Me at Hello" in 1999 after Renee Zellweger's famous line the movie "Jerry Maguire". But Renee and Kenny did not meet in person until January 2005 at a tsunami relief benefit. They were married on May 9, 2005, so they had only known each other about four months when they got married. Renee filed annulment papers on September 15, 2005 and cited "fraud" in the annulment papers. Rumor has it that Renee wanted children but Kenny did not.

Lyle Lovett was married to actress Julia Roberts from 1993 to 1995.
Keith Urban married actress Nicole Kidman, a fellow Aussie, in 2006.
Tim McGraw (son of baseball player Tug McGraw) married country singer Faith Hill in 1996.
3. Which Hollywood actress said the following: "That's one of the things I hate about celebrities in America, this lack of respect for the institution of marriage. You know - Renee Zellweger, she's married for like, 30 days? I mean, come on! I just get really angry."

Answer: Chloe Sevigny

Chloe Sevigny was raised Catholic and comes from a very religious family; hence her traditional beliefs about marriage and divorce. However, her acting roles have been anything but traditional: she played the girlfriend of a transgendered teen in "Boys Don't Cry" (1999), a lesbian in "If These Walls Could Talk 2" (2000), had very sexual roles in "Kids" (1995) and "The Brown Bunny" (2003), and was a "plural wife" in the U.S. television series "Big Love".

In real life, she has never been married.
4. It's hard to keep abreast (pun intended) of buxom blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson's marriages. Which of these men was married to Pamela for more than a year?

Answer: Tommy Lee

Pamela's first marriage to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee lasted the longest. They got married in February 1995, just a couple months after meeting each other. They divorced three years later, in 1998, but not before making a sex tape and having two sons. It was a bad breakup: Pamela filed assault charges against Tommy and he spent some time in jail.

Pamela married rock star Kid Rock in St. Tropez in July 2006. Because there was some question as to the legality of the marriage, they remarried in Beverly Hills a month later. Just to be on the safe side, they got married a third time later that month, this time in Nashville. Obviously the multiple ceremonies did not guarantee the success of the marriage: Pamela filed for divorce from Kid Rock in November citing "irreconcilable differences". The divorce became final two months later.

Pamela's third marriage lasted just a few months. She married Rick Salomon on October 6, 2007 in Las Vegas, and they separated just two months later. The marriage was annulled in March 2008. Salomon owns an online gambling website and is best known for making a sex tape with Paris Hilton. He had been married twice before to actresses, one of whom was Shannon Doherty.

Pamela was never married to Richie Sambora. However, Richie did marry Heather Locklear, who was married to Tommy Lee before he married Pamela.
5. Rock star Tommy Lee's marriage to actress Pamela Anderson was certainly not his shortest. He and his first wife were married less than a year. What was her name?

Answer: Elaine Bergen

Tommy Lee's first marriage was to Elaine Irwin Bergen in April 1984. They separated just one month later, and the divorce became final in November. Elaine later married rocker John Cougar Mellencamp. Tommy went on to marry actress Heather Locklear in 1986, and they divorced in 1993, allegedly due to Tommy's onscreen infidelity with an adult film star.

Pamela Anderson was Tommy's third wife. After they divorced, he had some famous live-in girlfriends: actress/model Bobbie Brown and Mayte Garcia, Prince's ex-girlfriend. Tommy and Pamela have dated on and off since their divorce.
6. Which of these celebrity marriages was the shortest?

Answer: Michelle Phillips and Dennis Hopper

Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas divorced her band-mate and husband, John Phillips, and married actor Dennis Hopper soon afterward. They were married on Halloween in 1970, which might not have been the most fortuitous date for a happy marriage. Michelle and Dennis broke up just eight days later. I'm not sure what the reason was, but rumor has it that handcuffs were involved. Both of them have been married five times each.

Actress Robin Givens's most famous marriage - to boxer Mike Tyson in 1988 - lasted about a year. But her marriage to her tennis instructor, Syetozar Marinkovic, in 1997 was even shorter: they were separated after just one day! However, the divorce did not become final until five months later.

Actor Nicolas Cage is a huge Elvis Presley fan. This may be why he wanted to marry Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie. They wed in Hawaii on August 10, 2002. Nick filed for divorce on November 25, 2002, after only 108 days. The divorce did not become final until 2004.

Model/actress Carmen Electra was briefly married to pro basketball player Dennis Rodman. They got married in Las Vegas on November 14, 1998. Just two weeks after their wedding, Dennis tried to get the marriage annulled, claiming that he was "not of sound mind" (i.e., drunk) when the marriage took place. He and Carmen made up, but the marriage didn't last much longer: their divorce became final on April 6, 1999.

Carmen then went on to make celebrity marriage/divorce history with rocker David Navarro on reality television a few years later. Millions of Americans tuned in to MTV to watch the marriage fall apart. Why did it fail? Carmen's first ex-husband, Dennis Rodman, says it was because Carmen was still in love with him! In an interview with Star Magazine, Dennis said that Carmen called him and told him that he was the love of her life and she wished they had stayed together. The outspoken Dennis then went on to say that his and Carmen's sex life was great. In his autobiography, "I Should Be Dead by Now", Dennis claimed that Carmen would use racial slurs to spice things up in the bedroom.
7. Which of the following is NOT true of Ethel Merman's marriage to Ernest Borgnine?

Answer: They were married for just six months.

Singer/actress Ethel Merman was married four times, and all of her marriages ended in divorce. Her shortest marriage was her fourth and last: Merman married actor Ernest Borgnine in June 1964. Merman filed for divorce just a month later on grounds of "extreme cruelty", and the divorce became final in November 1964 (five months later).

What was the "extreme cruelty?" Merman allegedly claimed in an interview that Borgnine subjected her to a "Dutch Oven": passing gas in bed while trapping her under the sheets!

In his 2008 autobiography, Borgnine claimed that Merman was jealous because he got more attention from fans than she did on their honeymoon. He also joked: "Biggest mistake of my life. I thought I was marrying Rosemary Clooney."

By contrast, in Merman's 1978 biography, the chapter on her marriage to Borgnine consisted of one blank page.
8. This Hungarian actress-socialite has been married nine times. Her shortest marriage lasted only one day! Who is she?

Answer: Zsa Zsa Gabor

Zsa Zsa Gabor was married to Mexican actor-turned attorney Felipe de Alba (her eighth husband) in April 1983. The marriage was annulled after just one day, because apparently Zsa Zsa was not completely divorced from her seventh husband, Micheal O'Hara.

Some of Zsa Zsa's other husbands were Turkish intellectual Burhan Asaf Belge (#1), hotel magnate Conrad Hilton (#2), British actor George Sanders (#3), American government official and businessman Herbert Hutner (#4), wealthy American oilman Joshua S. Cosden Jr. (#5), engineer and Barbie doll inventor Jack Ryan (#6), and Michael O'Hara (#7), who was her divorce lawyer. She married him three days after divorcing Ryan. As of August 2009, Zsa Zsa is married to husband #9, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, a German socialite who is not actually royalty because he was adopted. Von Anhalt has been in the news most recently due to his claim that he is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby.

Actresses Eva Gabor and Magda Gabor are Zsa Zsa's sisters. Eva was married five times and Magda was married six times, but neither could beat Zsa Zsa's record for most - and shortest - marriages.

Actress Mariska Hargitay's father is Hungarian. Her mother was actress Jayne Mansfield. As of August 2009, she has never been divorced.
9. Elizabeth Taylor holds the distinction of being one of the most married women in Hollywood. Of her many marriages (two were to the same person) which marriage was the shortest?

Answer: Nicky Hilton

Liz's first marriage was the shortest, lasting a little over eight months. She and Conrad Hilton Jr. (a.k.a. "Nicky") were married from May 1950 until January 1951. Nicky was the son of hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, one of Zsa Zsa Gabor's many husbands. (Yes, that makes him related to Paris Hilton too.)

Liz's second marriage to Richard Burton runs a close second: they remarried on October 10, 1975 and divorced on July 29, 1976. Liz and Mike Todd were married for 13 months. Liz was married to Michael Wilding for five years: almost an eternity by Hollywood standards.
10. Liz Taylor's marriages probably deserve a quiz of their own, but instead, you'll have to settle for just one more question about her marriages. Which one of her many marriages did NOT end in divorce?

Answer: Mike Todd

Liz married Mike Todd in February 1957. Sadly, Todd died in a plane crash on March 22, 1958. Her marriage to Todd is the only one of her marriages so far that has not ended in divorce.

Liz married Eddie Fisher 14 months after Todd's death. They divorced almost fie years later, in March 1964. Liz and John Warner were married from November 1976 to November 1982 (six years). Liz and Larry Fortensky were married from October 1991 to October 1996 (five years).
