Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Mississippi native was born in January of 1954. Although her early life was one of extreme poverty, once she found her niche in the media she became one of the wealthiest women in the world. Who is this hard-working philanthropist?

Answer: Oprah Winfrey

Often referred to as the "Queen of Talk", Oprah Winfrey truly found her place as her daily talk show became iconic. Its success allowed her not only to amass great wealth but to, in turn, become known as a most sharing and generous person - globally. It has also garnered her the respect of a wide range of followers.

Her "Midas touch" has been attributed to the triumphs of everything from book sales to Broadway plays to elected officials. Apparently, no matter what Oprah says, a lot of people listen.
2. This beautiful blonde-haired model put the "super" into "supermodel". She was born February 2, 1954 and can boast of a modeling career that lasted years - if not decades - longer than many others would have enjoyed. Who is this uptown girl?

Answer: Christie Brinkley

Besides the work she has done as a model, she has been a partner in some high-profile marriages - we would never forget she was once married to Billy Joel. Christie may be equally recognized for her work as an activist/philanthropist. Whether it be on behalf of PETA, the USO, anti-nuclear activities or her political candidate(s) of choice, she seems to have kept busy and "in the news". Brinkley has stated that she has been a vegetarian since her teens. Perhaps that may attribute to the longevity of her amazing beauty.
3. He was fortunate to be a child television star and he remained productive and successful in the entertainment world as an adult. He was born March 1, 1954 and has been comfortable on both sides of the motion picture camera. Who is he?

Answer: Ron Howard

Ron Howard was Opie on television's "The Andy Griffith Show" (1960-1968). He was fortunate, indeed, to be a part of that wonderful cast, but his career was only beginning. As an actor he was fabulous in the films "American Graffiti" (1973) and "The Shootist" (1976). For most of its run, Ron Howard was a lead in a television series many people still love, "Happy Days" (1974-1984).

But his true talent may just be as a director. Few directors have films any greater or more enjoyed than some that have been directed by Ron Howard. Among those are: "Cocoon" (1985), "Apollo 13" (1995) and "A Beautiful Mind" (2001).

He won an Academy Award for Best Director for that last one. Yet when "Vanity Fair" magazine (June 2006 issue) asked Ron Howard, "What do you consider your greatest achievement?" He replied, "Forty-eight consecutive years of steady employment in television and film, while preserving a rich family life."
4. He was born April 7, 1954, and even when he does his high jinx with a comic flair his martial arts skills are not simulated. The range of his talent seems endless. Who is the Asian-born actor often injured doing his own stunts, but always entertaining?

Answer: Jackie Chan

Would it surprise you to learn that Jackie Chan is an operatically trained vocalist? He is! And to accurately list his talents/accomplishments would take a lot more space than one question allows. When it comes to entertainment, Jackie Chan has done so much.

He may be more recognized and appreciated for his range of talent in certain parts of our world than others. But he has written, directed, choreographed, performed, produced and assembled his own team of professionals - all to entertain. His work has touched various industries. And, he is equally regarded for his entrepreneurship and philanthropic endeavors outside the entertainment world.
5. Perhaps he is best remembered for his supporting role in the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982), but this actor who was born May 8, 1954 has more to his credit before and after that movie. On film, he has been a prisoner, a serial killer and even played Elvis. Who?

Answer: David Keith

At first glance to his filmography, it would appear that David Keith has a heavy percentage of military and/or detective/crime themed roles. He was awarded with a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in the film "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982) and has continued to be recognized and appreciated for both his work on the movie screen and on television. Though he has worked in his craft continuously, he has found the time to effectively lobby for one of his favorite causes called PROTECT: The National Association to Protect Children. David Keith is also an avid sports fan.

His Tennessee roots and (often) residence there give him cause to support the college and professional teams from Tennessee.
6. This funny man is a Chicago native and is very proud of his Albanian heritage. He was born June 15, 1954; one of four children. His older brother was also a well-know comedic actor. Who might we call a "Blues Brothers' brother"?

Answer: Jim Belushi

Jim Belushi is the younger brother of comedic actor John Belushi (who died in 1982). But according to one source (www.imdb.com), it was not John who encouraged Jim to get into theater but rather a high school teacher. Yet Jim Belushi has been known to tell that it was the ratio of girls to guys in the drama club that sealed the deal for him. Whatever the source, it's apparent that Jim Belushi has had a lot fun and provided a lot of funny stuff for the rest of us. Whether it be his films, television shows, commercials, books, videos, live performances - no matter the format - he is comedic genius.
7. He was born in Ontario, Canada on August 16, 1954. In early 2011, an article in the magazine "Vanity Fair" reported that he was Hollywood's top money earner at that time with a reputed income of $257 million. That is a "titanic" amount! Who is this screenwriter, director, producer and more?

Answer: James Cameron

When James Cameron directed the film "Titanic" (1997), it surpassed all the labels that could be applied to "blockbuster". At the time, it became the highest grossing film ever. And, then in 2009, there was "Avatar" - directed by James Cameron. Once again, the record was set by exceeding the previous dollar amount for highest grossing film.

Much of James Cameron's amazing ability as a unique and talented film director may center on his fascination with water and, thus, the ocean. Many of his films do have a water theme.

Not limited to just producing Hollywood material, Cameron is among the very few people to reach the deepest point on our earth - the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
8. Innovative, diverse, rare, acclaimed - all have described this film director, screenwriter and producer who was born in Taiwan on October 23, 1954. Who has proven he has "sense and sensibility" while he has earned a "hulk" of awards and lived a "life of pi"?

Answer: Ang Lee

At first glance, the movies directed by Ang Lee may seem to be few but when the titles are read a certain aspect of "quality is better than quantity" comes to mind. With films to his directorial credit such as "Sense and Sensibility" (1995), "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000), "Hulk" (2003), "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) and "Life of Pi" (2012), it is easy to understand how Lee has become one of the most acclaimed and awarded directors of the early 21st century. To cite an ironic example, too, while Ang Lee was a student at NYU (New York University), he did work with Spike Lee on a student film.

It was Spike Lee's film "Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads" (1983). That was a true pool of talent!
9. Television actors would be satisfied to have one defining role in their career. The guy born on November 13, 1954 had his one "Big" role on TV, but he has not been limited to one. He has played a detective, boyfriend and (lecherous!) ex-husband. Who?

Answer: Chris Noth

Although he has appeared in several full length films, Chris Noth is more recognized for his work in several television series. His role as Detective Mike Logan on the series "Law and Order" (1990 - 2010) allowed him to be included in its spin-offs, sister shows and made-for-TV movies. And then there was "Sex and the City" (1998-2004).

He did not get the on-air time that the lead characters got, but as a boyfriend of one of the leads, his role was certainly "Big". On "The Good Wife", which premiered on American television in 2009, Noth made being so bad, so good, as he played the ex-husband of the lead character.

As if all of this has not been enough to keep him busy, Chris Noth and his wife Tara have owned (or co-owned) a music venue (i.e., lounge) in New York City, a Manhattan nightclub and (at least) two tea-party themed (franchise) restaurants in Tara's native Canada.
10. The man who was born on December 28, 1954 is more than an actor - he is a star. Talent, good looks and hard work made him a star, and gave him the claim as the first African-American actor to receive two Academy Awards. Do you recall who has made this "tripp" through "glory"?

Answer: Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Tripp, the runaway slave in the historical film "Glory" (1989). Then he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Detective Alonzo Harris in the riveting motion picture "Training Day" (2001). Denzel was raised in a devoted Christian home.

He has publicly given his faith the credit for many of the decisions he has made - personally and professionally. He and his wife have supported causes that are faith-based, military related, education directed and/or youth encouraging, most of all.

The website IMDb.com gives Denzel credit for the following quote: "I'm very proud to be black, but black is not all I am. That's my cultural historical background, my genetic makeup, but it's not all of who I am nor is it the basis from which I answer every question." No wonder he is so universally accepted and so very popular.
