Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ace: "I am told, by a reliable source, that you and Obelix were selected by your chief Vitalstatistix to be his Shield bearers! Is that true?"
Asterix: "Yes, he decided to give us the honour of being his shield-bearers!"
Is Asterix telling the truth?

Answer: Yes

Vitalstatistix fired his regular shield bearers because they dropped him again. At first, he gave the 'honour' to both Asterix and Obelix but after he became the laughing stock of the village, he decided that only Obelix should be his shield bearer.
2. Ace: "Your adventure helped the Roman empire crack down on a few corrupt governors, notably the governor Varius Flavus. He was convicted of having amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income."
Asterix: "Even I was surprised at the amount of money he siphoned off; In fact I am told that he gave a measly sum as tribute to the Empire!"
How much money did Flavus give as tribute to the Roman Empire?

Answer: 3 gold coins

Flavus is shown holding the three gold coins (which, he decided, is the apt tribute to be paid to Rome).
3. Ace: "You might be interested in knowing that his secret messenger, the one who carried out his dirty work of collecting the taxes etc, was finally arrested yesterday."
Asterix: "Wait! Wasn't he also the messenger who told the Governor of Helvetia that we (Asterix and Obelix) should be arrested when we reached his province?"
Ace: "It is he!"
What was the name of this messenger?

Answer: Caius Eucalyptus

Caius used to get a good sum from Flavus for his co-operation. Well, there were certain hilarious incidents involving the two.
4. Asterix: "Oh, Did I tell you the name that Quaestor Sinusitus called Getafix. It was simply out of this world."
Ace: "I wasn't aware of this! So, tell me, what did he call Getafix?"
What did Sinusitis call Getafix first?

Answer: Geometrix

Sinusitus, to avoid the governor's doctors, tell his escort to call Geometrix (or Getafix). This error is corrected by the escort.
5. Ace: "I am told Getafix is a wonderful druid and that he has an extensive knowledge of medicinal herbs and shrubs."
Asterix: "Not only is his knowledge of herbs great, he is also aware of the locations where they can be found. In fact, it was he who told us to go to Helvetia to search for a flower which could help cure the Quaestor"
What was the name of the flower?

Answer: Silver Star

Silver Star or Edelweiss was the essential ingredient required for curing Sinusitus. Since it was available only in Helvetia, Asterix and Obelix once again decided to undertake the journey.
6. Ace: "Did you visit one of those new breed of hotels that are cropping up on the highway?"
Asterix: "You mean the Chariotels? Of course, we stayed in one of those for some time"
Is Asterix Lying?

Answer: No

Each room had a stable attached to it (for the horses)! Along the way, they meet the 'Michelin' mascot, who repairs their chariot!
7. Ace: "I have, often, heard of weird orgy parties conducted by the Roman governors but the ones by Curius Odus (Helvetia's governor) beats them all! What a strange way to party!"
Asterix: "I must agree that it was quite unique- the part I loved the most was the punishment part!"
Which of the following was NOT one of the punishments?

Answer: Setting the 'culprit' on fire

Curius, an ardent hater of hygiene, liked to host 'fondue' orgies. Every member of the party must dip their bread in a pot of fondue and if they dropped their bread in the fondue, they would get the appropriate punishment (depending on the number of times they commmited the same 'offence' before).
8. Ace: "Did you find any allies on the Helvetian side?"
Asterix: "Yes, there was no problem regarding that! In fact, the owner of the Lakeside hotel was quite generous in offering us rooms."
Ace: "Why? Were rooms that scarce?"
Asterix: "No but there was a conference going on in Geneva at that time and most rooms were occupied or reserved for its delegates."
What Conference was going on at Geneva?

Answer: ICTC

International Conference of Tribal Chieftains (ICTC) was holding their conference. The owner of the Lakeside hotel had a room empty because the barbarian leaders didn't like their rooms to be neat - so they went to another hotel!
9. Ace: "Obelix told me that you were kept in a bank locker for some time"
Asterix: "Yes, it was one of those weird moments! To protect and hide us from the Roman patrol, they decided to put us in a locker!"
What was the name of the bank?

Answer: Zurix bank

The owner of the Lakeside hotel (Petitsuix) took them to the owner of the Zurix bank (Zurix) to help avoid them avoid the Romans. The first safe that Zurix put them in was broken by Obelix. Zurix, then, had to put them in another safe.
10. Ace: "Is it true that Sinusitus was the first Roman to be invited to your banquets?"
Asterix: "Yes"
Is Asterix telling the truth?

Answer: Yes

There were other Romans like Julius Caesar who have attended the banquet but it was Sinusitis who holds the credit for being the first.
