Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jim Backus

Answer: Mr. Magoo

Some of you may remember Jim Backus (1913-1989) as Thurston Howell III from "Gilligan's Island" or as Judge Bradley J. Stevens from "I Married Joan". Some keen-eyed trivia buffs might also suggest that he played James Dean's wimpy father in "Rebel Without a Cause", a 1955 film.

But for me, I will always hear Jim as the voice of that bungling, near-sighted, lovable Quincy Magoo. In his very last TV appearance, Backus teamed with Natalie Schafer ("Lovey") for a commercial for Orville Redenbacher's popcorn.
2. Julie Kavner

Answer: Marge Simpson

Anyone remember the "Mary Tyler Moore Show" spinoff "Rhoda" (1974-1978)? The premise of the show was that Mary Richards' best friend, Rhoda Morgenstern, played by Valerie Harper, was getting married and moving back to New York. Rhoda's sister, Brenda Morganstern was played by Julie Kavner, and the role earned her an Emmy Award in 1978 for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Julie was born in Los Angeles, CA, and is responsible for the voices of Marge Simpson and her sisters, Selma and Patty on "The Simpsons".
3. Boris Karloff

Answer: Grinch

British actor William Henry Pratt (1887-1969) was better known by his stage name, i.e., Boris Karloff. He was known for his portrayal of monsters like Frankenstein and Imhotep in "The Mummy", and as the narrator for the TV show "Thriller". In the 1966 animated television film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", Boris was once again the bad guy, a grinch with 'a heart two sizes too small" who was bent on destroying Christmas for all the Whos of Whoville. FYI, June Foray was the voice of Cindy Lou Who in the Dr. Seuss cartoon.
4. June Foray

Answer: Rocket J. Squirrel

June Foray (1917-2017) was, basically, the female Mel Blanc. Her resume goes all the way back to 1937 when she voiced a squirrel in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". She was Granny to Tweety and Sylvester and, on "Fractured Fairy Tales"
(1959-1962) she did the voices for Snow White, Rapunzel, Rumplestiltskin, et al. She was also Nell Fenwick on "The Dudley Do-Right Show" and Mother Magoo on "Mr. Magoo." However, my personal favorite will always be her wonderful portrayal of Rocket J. Squirrel on "The Bullwinkle Show" (1959-1963).
5. Ray Romano

Answer: Manfred (2002)

The first "Ice Age" (the animated one) came out in 2002. It starred a sabre-toothed tiger, a sloth and a wooly mammoth. Respectively, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Ray Romano voiced the characters, without any fear of "global warming". Ray Romano, from "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996-2005), used his slow, deep voice to speak for the now-extinct wooly mammoth, and to provide guidance among the glaciers.
6. Katey Sagal

Answer: Turanga Leela

Actress Katey Sagal, daughter of director Boris Sagal, was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1954. The diversity of her roles shows her versatility. For ten years she played dysfunctional Peggy Bundy on "Married...with Children" (1987-1997). Katey moved on to another sitcom, i.e., "8 Simple Rules" (2002-2005) and then was Gemma Teller Morrow in the cable drama "Sons of Anarchy" (2008-2014). From 1999 to 2013, Sagal was the one-eyed mutant and pilot for Planet Express, on the animated Matt Groening comedy "Futurama".
7. Alan Reed

Answer: Fred Flintstone

"Yabba dabba doo" was the familiar catch phrase for Fred Flintstone on the iconic, animated sitcom "The Flinstones" which first aired in 1960. Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the show featured some of the best voice artists of the day. The Stone Age families included Mel Blanc as Barney Rubble, with Bea Benaderet ("Petticoat Junction") as Betty; Jean Vander Pyle was Wilma and Alan Reed (1907-1977) was the voice of the irrepressible Fred from 1960 to 1966. Reed has an extensive resume on TV, dating back to 1949.
8. Kristin Bell

Answer: Princess Anna

The film "Frozen", from 2013, was a Golden Globe Award winner for Best Animated Feature Film, and an Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year, and Best Original Song for "Let It Go". The film depicts Queen Elsa, an infinite winter and her sister, Princess Anna, who has a plan to save the day and the kingdom of Arendelle with the help of a reindeer and a snowman. Kristen Bell ("The Good Place" and "Veronica Mars") is the voice of Anna.
9. Craig T. Nelson

Answer: Bob Parr

Would this have been easier to answer if I gave you Bob Parr's super alter-ego, i.e., Mr. Incredible? In the 2004 movie, "The Incredibles", Metroville is tired of superheroes, and forces those with extraordinary powers to go undercover and live a normal life. Craig T. Nelson ("Coach" and "Parenthood") voices Bob Parr, a claim adjuster for a corrupt insurance company. Without using his superpowers as Mr.

Incredible, he has become overweight and frustrated, until finally he and his family are called upon to help save the world...again.
10. Cameron Diaz

Answer: Princess Fiona

The original "Shrek", from 2001, tells how mean Lord Farquaad usurps the swamp of the ogre Shrek and explains that, in order to get his land back, Shrek must rescue Princess Fiona from a fire-breathing dragon. Shrek and his donkey set out to bring the princess to the future king, until Shrek realizes he is falling in love with Fiona, who has a secret of her own. Mike Myers is the voice of the green ogre, while Cameron Diaz ("The Mask" and Charlie's Angels") plays the conflicted Princess Fiona.
