Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which year did Canada's Wonderland open for its inaugural season?

Answer: 1981

Construction of the park began in 1979 and it opened in the spring of 1981.
2. Before settling on Vaughan, other locations were considered to host the park. Which of the below cities was *not* considered?

Answer: Oshawa

Vaughan was eventually chosen due to it being closer to Toronto and the fact it was better served by the different 400 series highways.
3. Which of these rides is the first of its design in the world?

Answer: Sledgehammer

Sledgehammer is the world's first "giant jump". It has suffered near endless ride downtime due to mechanical issues, however those issues have not caused it to be taken down.
4. Which roller coaster's track extends beyond the park's front gates?

Answer: Leviathan

Leviathan is the country's tallest and fastest coaster, and as of its opening ranked eighth overall in the world in terms of both height and speed. The teal coloured track extends into and around the area just outside the park entrance.
5. Which roller coaster was taken down in 2014?

Answer: Sky Rider

Sky Rider ended up getting sold and moved to Cavallino Matto, an amusement park in Tuscany, Italy, and was renamed Freestyle.
6. Along with Wonder Mountain's Guardian and Vortex, which roller coaster interacts with the Wonder Mountain?

Answer: Thunder Run

Thunder Run opened during the park's inaugural season in a different part of the park and was called Blauer Enzian. In 1986 the track layout was modified and it was moved inside the mountain.
7. Which of these rides is the tallest?

Answer: Windseeker

Although the other choices are considered to be more thrilling rides, Windseeker provides an incomparable 360 degree view around the park and neigboring communities... and the always-horrendous highway 400 traffic.
8. When the park opened, what was the theming used for the kids section?

Answer: Hanna Barbera Land

Successive theming has included Nickelodeon Central, Kidzville, and Planet Snoopy.
9. Which non-water based ride will get you wet if the weather is nice enough?

Answer: Riptide

This top scan ride, initially called Cliffhanger when it opened, features several water jets that shoot straight up while you are spun at the same time as moving in 360 degree rotations. If the weather isn't friendly, the water feature is turned off.
10. Which movie studio bought and re-named Canada's Wonderland?

Answer: Paramount

The park was re-named Paramount Canada's Wonderland in 1994 and the park began adding rides themed to its movies (Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Tomb Raider, Italian Job) until the park was sold to Cedar Fair in 2006. Any rides named after a Paramount movie were renamed, and the park name went back to Canada's Wonderland.
