Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sleeping Beauty
Answer: Maleficent
This was the Disney animated feature which first showed us Maleficent, the tall evil fairy who cursed the princess to die on her sixteenth birthday. One of the good fairies was able to change the curse from death to a deep sleep. When the true love kissed the princess, she would awaken.
2. 101 Dalmatians
Answer: Cruella De Vil
"Cruella De Vil, Cruella De Vil, if she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will... The world was such a lovely place until Cruella, Cruella De Vil." She wanted to make a coat of dalmatian dog fur, so she hired two men to collect 99 dalmatian puppies for them to skin. The pups escaped with the help of two adult dogs.
3. The Aristocats
Answer: Edgar the butler
Edgar was a butler to Madame Bonfamille who loved her pet cat and kittens. She had her lawyer draw up a will that said if she died, the cats got her wealth. If the cats died, her faithful butler would inherit everything. Edgar decided to get rid of the cats immediately.
4. The Rescuers
Answer: Madame Medusa
Madame Medusa took an orphan girl to Devil's Bayou and forced her to search a big swamp hole for a jewel. The Rescue Aid Society sent two mice to help free the girl.
5. Wizards
Answer: Blackwolf
There's a complicated backstory, but basically it concerned a war between two brothers who were wizards in the far off future after a nuclear war. The pixies and trolls and magical creatures had spread over the Earth. Avatar was the good guy who thought magic could bring peace while Blackwolf was the evil one who used technology to attack.
6. Aquaman
Answer: Black Manta
This was a series of short cartoons produced by Filmation. Black Manta was used as a recurring villain, because he wore a helmet over his head so you couldn't see his lips move. They could show the same picture a million times and just change the soundtrack of what he was saying. Aquaman lived under the ocean in the aquacave with Aqualad. Black Manta was also used a lot in "Challenge of the Superfriends".
He was part of the Legion of Doom with Lex Luthor. (That's why I could not include "Challenge of the Superfriends" in this quiz.)
7. Wacky Races
Answer: Dick Dastardly
This involved various characters in a series of races. Dick Dastardly was the one who cheated all the time and tried to cause harm to the other racers so he could win.
8. Yogi's Space Race
Answer: Phantom Phink
This was like the Wacky Races but in outer space. In "Yogi's Space Race" the same groups of characters raced to various planets, moons, and space stations. Probably the strangest villain ever was Phantom Phink. He could press a button, changing his costume, pet, and vehicle.
Then he called himself Captain Good. People thought Captain Good was good, but he was really the Phantom Phink in disguise. His pet was Sinister Sludge, a nasty looking dog, which turned into Clean Kat.
9. The New Adventures of Batman
Answer: Catwoman
In this series some of the recurring Batman characters were Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and Catwoman. They could not appear on "Challenge of the Superfriends", (a Hanna/Barbera production which included Batman and Superman) because they were regular characters on "The New Adventures of Batman" (a Filmation production) the same years.
10. The New Adventures of Superman
Answer: Lex Luthor
These were short cartoons involving Superman fighting various monsters and villains. These were mixed in "The New Adventures of Superman" with Superboy cartoons. One time Lex Luthor joined with Warlock, Toyman, and Prankster to form A.P.E. (Allied Perpetrators of Evil). Lex was later used as leader of the Legion of Doom in "Challenge of the Superfriends".
