Everyone but Batman was willing to pay the ransom. The Dark Knight tracked down Edward while Croc was going after the ransom money but while they were making their escape, Killer Croc returned and attacked them. Croc has mutated since his last encounter with Batman but the Dark Knight defeats him. However, during the fight the ransom money is stolen, confirming Batman's suspicions of another player in Croc's plans.
