Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1986, an animated film called "The Transformers: The Movie" was released. One of the more popular characters had a heart-wrenching death scene. Which one?

Answer: Optimus Prime

"One shall stand. One shall fall." said Optimus Prime to nemesis Megatron before their final meeting. The hero always gets a cool line to speak before disposing of his enemy, right? Wrong. Due to a boneheaded mistake by fellow Autobot Hot Rod, Optimus was the one that fell.
2. Even comedic television shows have their share of deaths. Which of these characters from "The Simpsons" died onscreen in an episode from the 11th season?

Answer: Maude Flanders

The Simpson clan, along with many others from Springfield, were in attendance to see a car race that fateful day. As girls working at the track were shooting shirts into the crowd, Homer, being the idiot he was, is, and always will be, egged on all of the girls to shoot a shirt at him.

As several of them shot shirts at Homer, he bent down to pick something up off the ground. Maude, who was returning from the concession stand, happened to be right behind Homer as he bent down. The shirts hit her and knocked her over the edge and she fell to her death.
3. Daytona is the pinnacle of NASCAR. Which of these drivers died at that race in 2001?

Answer: Dale Earnhardt

During the final lap of the big race, Earnhardt found himself in the top ten. A rub from Sterling Marlin started a chain reaction that sent his car headfirst into the wall.
4. In 2004, a prominent member of the heavy metal community was brutally gunned down while performing on stage. Who was he?

Answer: Darrell Abbott

While touring with his band Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio, "Dimebag" Darrell had the misfortune to be in the crosshairs of a maniacal madman. That man went by the name of Nathan Gale. After killing four people in total, Gale was finally taken down by a police officer armed with a shotgun.
5. "The Shield" was a television show that centered around Vic Mackey and his Strike Team. One of his teammates was murdered by way of a grenade in season five. Who was killed?

Answer: Curtis Lemansky

This death stemmed from a long, long list of corruption on the Strike Team's part. The whole story is far too much to explain in one question, but the gist of it is that Lemansky found himself under investigation from Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh. Not seeing an out, Shane Vendrell, teammate and friend to Curtis, met up alone with Lemansky one night.

While Lemansky was sitting in his car, Shane dropped a live grenade into his lap and ran. The explosion killed him instantly.
6. If I were to mention the movie "Goodfellas", I am sure a lot of deaths come to mind. Which one of these characters died on what was supposed to be one of his greatest days?

Answer: Tommy DeVito

Tommy DeVito, Henry Hill, and Jimmy Conway were the best of friends. They were riding high in the gangster's way of life. They killed, robbed, and strong armed anybody they felt like. This came to a head when Tommy killed a man by the name of Billy Batts. Nothing came of it at first. But, when it came time for Tommy to get the nod and become a "made man" it was his turn to get strong armed. Billy was already a "made man" when Tommy murdered him, and Tommy paid the price for it with his life.
7. The world of pro wrestling has seen a number of deaths over the years. None more tragic than when someone dies performing a stunt. Which of these wrestlers died this way?

Answer: Owen Hart

In 1999, the World Wrestling Federation, now known as the WWE, was holding a pay per view in Missouri. Owen was to be lowered from high up in the rafters down to the ring. Something went wrong and Owen fell over 70 feet and landed in the ring.
8. "Roseanne" was supposed to be a comedic show. But, not even comedies are immune to tragic moments. One of the main characters died on the series from a massive heart attack. Which one?

Answer: Dan Conner

While the show was airing, it was shown that Dan had survived his heart attack. The family won the lottery and Darlene gave birth to a child. The Conner clan was on cloud nine. But, the series finale revealed that none of that was true. It was all a figment of Roseanne's imagination due to a book she was writing. Dan really did die from a heart attack.
9. Did Major League Baseball player Ray Chapman die as a result of an on-field incident?

Answer: Yes

On August 16, 1920, Chapman stepped into the batter's box to face off with pitcher Carl Mays. He threw the ball high and tight and nailed Chapman right in the head. He died early the next morning.
10. Danny Vinyard was the impressionable younger brother to Derek Vinyard in what movie centered around skinheads?

Answer: American History X

Derek was sent to prison for the murder of several people. Danny, while Derek was locked up, attempted to follow in his footsteps. He hung with skinheads and he hated everybody who wasn't white, and even some whites too. When Derek got released, he tried to get the ship righted.

He did succeed seemingly. Danny had learned the errors of Derek's ways and was ready and willing to leave all the hate behind him, but it was too late. While using the bathroom at school, Danny was shot to death by a fellow student with whom he had beef.
